I could please use some help with port forwarding. I set up my pms on a Windows 10 laptop that’s hardwired to the router. Everything locally works fine. I tried forwarding port 32,400 to get remote access. I was successful with this and remote access works. When I have this port forwarded I am unable to access plex on my home network over WiFi. The one client that is hardwired and remote access work. If I remove the forwarded port I am able to access everything at home hardwired or over WiFi but then remote access doesn’t work. If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance !

Being a complete imbecile (Certified) in networking skills - that was really all I needed.

Thank you! Ive read through this and followed the instructions. I was able to get remote access to work but at the cost of nothing working on my home network over wifi. So basically I have to choose either remote access or home access. I just cannot figure this out.

Sounds like you may have a combo router/modem - but to a networking imbecile such as myself - it also sounds a little like ‘War Pigs’ (Faith No More).

Hopefully - some genuine help arrives soon - I’m the warm-up act.

Haha! Thank you for your suggestions. I appreciate it

So I was able to get everything working but only if I used dmz on my router and assigned my plex servers MAC address. Not sure why this is the only way to get this to work. I would still like to resolve this correctly if anyone has any more suggestions?

Hello I’ve been trying to troubleshoot this for a week now. Have pms running on Windows 10 desktop with lan connection to linksys router. I can’t get remote access to work correctly. When I set up remote access either with dhcp reservation, port forwarding or upnp I get a weird issue. Remote access works, clients connected lan only work but none of my clients in my home on WiFi work. So I either can have plex on WiFi at home or I can have remote access but not both unless I put my router in dmz. I’ve disabled windows fire wall and still have an issue. I’m only running Windows defender. The modem from my isp is only a modem. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. I cannot figure this out.

Confirm that you have AP Isolation mode disabled?

Just went through this with a co-worker who has a newish Linksys Router. All devices had to have IP’s from within the declared DHCP range, none could have manually set IP’s. You can reserve them but the devices must be performing DHCP requests.

I don’t know what ap isolation mode is. I will look it up. This is the router https://www.linksys.com/ca/p/P-EA8500/

I don’t see it on this router anywhere in the settings

I found this explanation of the settings in my router. This is what settings are turned on. Could any of them be interfering?

AP Isolation will be under the wifi settings. I would go back to port forward, exposing a Windows machine to the internet via DMZ is not recommended.

Thank you. I took it off DMZ it was just the only way I could get it to work.

Anyone else have any recommendations?

Does the wifi security matter? Right now its set to WPA2/WPA Mixed Personal. Does it matter that guest wifi is enabled?

Update : Gave my route a google public DNS. Plex says remote access not available outside your network. Canyouseeme says port 32400 is closed. Yet I am able to access everything in my home or outside my network. I used my mobile data on the web browser to test. I don’t know what’s going on anymore.

Test with the Guest network turned off, they often have IP isolation active by default.

Compare the IP address from https://www.ipchicken.com/ with the WAN ip, if they are different then you have CGNAT.

Since some ISP’s are blocking 32400, your external port should be random like 55555 pointing to 32400 internal. This requires manually setting the port in Plex.

IP from Ipchicken matches the one shown in plex. Tried with guest network off. No go. Tried with the other port and no go. Thank you very much for trying to help

I found this article and I believe my issues are resolved

Afternoon,

I currently running PMS on my xps 13 temporarily. I had no issues with local or remote connection until today when i decided to opt into vpn. I added vpn through my router since it gave me the option but now i cannot access remotely. im not the most advanced person when it comes to networking but i watched a few tutorials on port forwarding which i figured i needed to do in my situation. I switched my settings in network to manual. I went into my netgear router settings and setup up port forwarding to 32400 but still doesnt connect
