Here is a little work around that allows for password protected Movies. They remain password protected and I can add/remove them to my PLEX library with relative ease.
ALL of my movies are on an external HD. On that HD, I made a separate (password protected) folder that contains all of the movies I dont want others to see. The PW protected folder on the HD will not show up in PLEX once the following is done and Library is Updated.
For Mac OSX
• Open Disk Utility (Spotlight search Disk Utility) • File>New>Disk Image from Folder • Select the folder, click Image • Select encryption (128-bit AES will do)
Set your password and you are good. This will copy the folder, so you may want to delete the original.
- Open the .dmg file in Finder - this will bring up the folder in your 'Devices' sidebar.
- To bring this into PLEX, just add the folder to your library (+) on your PLEX Home page.
- When you are finished, just delete this entire library section, leaving your other sections untouched. Now, eject the .dmg folder from the 'Devices' section of your Finders sidebar. This will keep all of your movies in that folder password protected and off of PLEX.
Just add and remove when needed. I hope this helps some people out. This is only for MAC, but Im sure those with PC can do something similar. Good luck!
Since the inception of the media server, we’ve actually had the concept of multiple users internally, it’s just never been fleshed out or exposed. With this release, we’re changing that. As you know, we already have flexible sharing policies via myPlex (entire library, single section), but those shared users have never gotten their own view state (which drives On Deck, Unwatched, Recently Viewed, etc.) or the ability to select audio stream and subtitles. In this new release, every user gets their very own view state. This applies to people inside the home too, of course. You can create a myPlex account for your kids, and only give them access to certain sections, which is a first baby step towards our vision of rich parental controls."
you can already do what is mentioned (in bold before the comma) even if you don't have a plex pass

This is not a solution to the problem. Creating accounts for kids requires too much interaction, especially for media centers that you use as streaming devices. Now you have to switch accounts all the time? It also means you now are forced to require authentication on your local network, which means you have to force every device to login. This is just annoying, as 95% of the time people use Plex from within their house and there is little reason to have to login. It should just have password protection collections which upon opening asks for the password.
+1,000,000,000 squared. What is the hold up on this? Plex has so many terrific and much more complex features. How difficult is it to add a password protected section? Home Movies, Movies, PRIVATE MOVIES.
In addition to a simple password protection, I'd like an option to only allow access to sections based of specific devices based on a uniquely generated hash. This way, for example, I could only allow my own personal device(s) access to private sections without having to type in passwords (which can get annoying if I have to type them in all the time) while disallowing any other devices on my local network (as well as myPlex).
