Private Section - XXX content

Oh really?  Great!

that does not cost anything, anyone can share a library

Has anyone attempted to create a Private Folder Channel for Plex?

I'm not a developer so I wouldn't even know where to start.  But maybe a Plex Channel for private content would be the way to go?  This channel could be password/pin protected if that is possible?  And then you could have a setup that would allow you to add folders to list the media file contents of the folder.  And then chose the file to play or once Plex has the playlist/queue feature implemented the user could add multiple files to the queue or a play all button if you have many videos and you just want Plex to pick randomly which to play.

Workaround Channel Solution for Mac OSX here

the only thing which bothers me more than the fact that after 3 years there is still no solution to this problem is how arrogant they handle these kind of topics...

checkout the plex staff postings, they are arrogant, vain and they show that they just dont give a flying f*ck...

I think part of the problem might be that Plex decision makers may feel their software can already achieve something similar; despite all the hassle involved).

it's because it is harder than you think to make this work across many different platforms and for more scenarios than hiding xxx content. ( and many other requests/bugs ) but since it seems you are never going to believe that there is not much more so say

How many people have 1 Plex account for the entire household and that same account is used for the PMS and all clients that household owns/uses?  Probably a lot!  And I can only assume but I'd bet a beer that a lot of these people only want to limit access to 1 or 2 special folders within the household and don't want to have to manage multiple Plex accounts and who gets access to what and having to log in and out of different Plex accounts depending on who is using that Plex client at that time.  Plus when you use a Plex client and sign in with a Plex account you have to go navigate to the 'Shared Content' section you content is no longer in the main menu but that's another rant.  I personally would like to have both methods of limiting access to some of my media.  I have kids who are old enough that they can be taught how to navigate Plex so they can play the media but they aren't yet old enough to understand that they need to sign in to a Plex account first let alone remember a username and password for an account, so if I Plex had the capability of password or pin protection on a section within the main menu with options to not create thumbnails for background images then this would finally close this thread.  I think all Plex needs is to add the option to have a password/pin protection on the user added sections of the main menu.

another thread/request for this...

.. Yeah, the developers don't give a ■■■■ about what their userbase wants. That's why Plex is the leading streaming platform for local media on pretty much most devices and platforms. I really don't think that users such as yourself are fully aware of how big Plex has become. Just think about all the clients that are available, and expected to work on countless devices. Then there is maintainance, bug fixes, new features, client overhauls from time to time. Then to add to all that, there's everything that's going on behind the scenes that we have no idea about. Nobody had an idea they would be launching a new redesigned client on the AndroidTV. They might be developing a new client for the 4th gen AppleTV as we speak without having an idea about it.

Even though some clients cost a ■■■■■■ $5 and some functions are PlexPass only for some time - Plex is still a freeware. How that's simply possible is amazing.

edit

I've opted to run a portable version of XBMC for aforementioned "private" content that I keep in said content's location. Assuming you already go through the trouble to hide the content, this is pretty easy solution to managing it with Plex-like functionality while keeping it sandboxed.

I solved it using the DLNA server that came with my NAS device for xxx content. I run both Plex and ReadyDLNA on a Netgear ReadyNAS Pro Business. That means "normal" and xxx content has a galvanic separation of the content.
This also means I don't get a "polluted" background wallpaper in Plex. Not exactly what I want on a daily basis in Plex, ■■■■ and balls in the background.

PC users (and others) could solve it in a similar way by running eg. BubbleUPNP server in parallell with Plex.

Another thing along the similar lines of restricting access to separate parts of the library; it would be nice to be able to select which parts of the library will be allowed to show background pictures.
In exact, I'd like background pictures for the movies and series sections, not from mobile uploads or pictures.

i use the two accounts solution although the multiple plex servers works too.

would love to see in future revisions:

  • agent lookups for adult content. (took me forever to add custom images and descriptions for each video)
  • ability to add a csv file for metadata
  • ability to add porn site videos to the watch later list.
  • add a "hide library" checkbox to the library settings and a reveal switch on the home panel.

Try this

Easy solution:

- put private content into a folder within a TV series (eg BoringMoneyTalk/BehindTheScenes/Private)

- in TV shows, switch to folder view and navigate to private folder

- Really, NO ONE is ever gonna find this thro the normal plex client layout

Seeing the direction Plex is taking recently, with the addition of a feature to show or remove a sections content from recently added/dashboard makes me now think there might be a solution underway

Please add this feature to pin protect XXX material.

This really should have been implimented alooooong time ago.

On a side note, I friggin' LOVE Plex and after years of looking for a more user friendly program to beat xbmc, I have found it in plex.

This addition would make me willing to buy lifetime membership as well.

I think we just got it, verifying between my two accounts seems to show very little leaked data on the UI (Web-UI tested), I've not been able to look at the ios/android/plexht/roku applications yet, nor have I been able to verify that any of the API calls can't bypass it.

Am I the only one that is confused and probably disappointed by the announcement of Plex Home? https://blog.plex.tv/2014/11/20/introducing-plex-home/

As far as I can tell you can restrict content for a managed user by label or rating, but not library. Do I really need to go an label all content I wan't hidden? Thanks.
