Problem Loading Metadata and also APPS crashing since i subscribed for the PLEX PASS

Server Version#:1.18.1.1973
Player Version#: most recent on android and windows

Hi, guys, I’m new here and started to use plex as of yesterday. I have my Synology device and have been using video station along with ds video until now I found about plex, love it and even paid for the subscription, I have two problems I will like to fix,

1 since I have moved from free and now a paid subscribed member all apps on mobile and windows freeze and crash when free they never crashed.

2 my metadata info is out of wack on a lot of contents, I gave it hours to scan from yesterday until now, even try doing a few manually, but can anyone help me with this, with video station it was a lot easier, is it I’m doing something wrong, I have been reading from yesterday and trying different solutions but nothing works, and since I’m using the same media that I was using with video station cant I like to import those metadata. please help me with this.

After upgrading to Plex Pass: Restart all devices This gets PMS and all apps updated and in sync again.

Regarding the scanning, a few things.

  1. TV and movies should be unaffected.
  2. Music will change. Music is slower and more thorough. It will impact other scanning / metadata retrieval because the scanner is single threaded (minimize impact on the host).

Would you please:

  1. Verify only DEBUG logging is enabled in Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced? (Verbose generates too much output)

  2. Restart DSM

  3. Wait 2 minutes after signing back into DSM before opening PMS (let it get up and settled)

  4. Scan one of your library sections (smallest video one is sufficient)

  5. When complete, if anything is missing meta/posters, share the names & structure please.

  6. Also download (Settings - Server - Troubleshooting - Download Logs) and attach the ZIP file it gives you

ok first i restarted everything, synology nas pc, macbook, note 9. the MAC gives the error,

NO soup for you! saying i have no access.

My phone works perfectly now though.

and the windows pc app still crashes.

ok did a scan of a small library after restarting DSM. Still, I have missing metadata.

Let’s get the metadata started: TV Shows -> Refresh all metadata. Let it run.

I will have to see about the Windows app. I’m primarily a server/OS guy.

Are you referring to the Plex player app or the Plex server app for Windows?
(I will try to setup something)

I don’t have a Mac so we will do what we can but I would

  1. Sign the mac out of your plex.tv account.
  2. delete the plex tokens from the browser history.
  3. Sign it back in.

The Plex Player app for windows

another question i just add some more episodes to a season but i dont see them added, is it because im refreshing all metadata, or is there something else i need to do?

If PMS is busy in one section refreshing, it won’t look for new files elsewhere.

The scanner is single-threaded to prevent it from interfering with streaming activities.
On smaller NAS platforms – it’s easy to disrupt playback.

I just ran the Windows player at full speed in a VM.

It was playing 28 Mbps video output without a hitch.
I transcoded 2160 UHD to 1080p without issue as well (except for colors).

How do I recreate what you’re seeing?

ok the refresh is finish and all new contents i added still have not shown, and for the metadata of the others some lost there posters so now i have less showing posters,

No sure why the windows have the issue, i dont even get to play, as i open the app it crashes before anything even loads properly

Regarding the lost posters, may I see the file names used?
I find most of the ones with intermittent posters / metadata are due to naming.

Regarding windows. I have a plain windows 10 home edition. Nothing special at all.
Because it’s a VM for testing, it has no real add-ons.

I wish I could help more there but can’t. sorry.

13 reason was the one I noticed vanished but it’s back now and I also noticed a few more added, so I will give it some more time.

for windows I’m not sure, the mac works now too. I will try reinstalling the windows app and a next pc to see if it’s just this pc.

I am having similar issues with missing poster metadata. I have constructed a test here I have fresh Plex Data directory and I have a folder with a single show (American Vandal) and when I add the folder to the TV Library. It scans but I do not get any poster metadata. I do get text metadata though, like description and summaries. Thanks.

yes for most it seems i have text now but poster banner and background wont load, still dont see the new contents i added though.

I did one more test. I added a movie library and added a single movie and all metadata loads correctly. Is there an issue with TV poster metadata?

ok i did some test and found a solution for the old ones. after i did a refresh of all metadata, i then check the series that never load or loaded incorrectly. Then Match or fix Match then they started to load metadata better, still have quite a few to finish but the library is almost complete. still dont see the new content.

I did a test with the TheTVDB Agent settings. I added The Movie Database to be included and did a refresh metadata. It then was able to pull poster images/metadata. So I’m thinking there is some kind of issue with TheTVDB agent or something else could be causing some sort of disconnect with TheTVDB.

TVDB hasn’t been all that stable for everyone since they changed the API, then reverted it, then moved forward again.

I wonder if there are isolated spots of bad data

If it was the API or agent, everything would break
