Plex developers, I’m reading this and I won’t let every comment be negative for you.
A lot of us are trusting in your work and I know this issues are going to be solved.
I’m even amazed by these PS5 limitations because they might mean that this will be a well managed hardware by this software. I don’t need my PS5 to be an airplane in a couple of years just because all the horses are available to every app.
Some of us are patient!
Thank you for your work
@tiagoduarte21 it is your right to think that.
playstation 4 pro plex app is stillnot able to play 4k hevc high quality files. i would say nevermind because the hardware was only able to deal with normal 1080p blurays. but today is the era of playstation 5, with high end hardware inside.
you put a 4k bluray hdr in the drive, everything is going fine with playstation 5 no buffering at all, with the integrated sony bluray player app
if you convert your own bluray 4k into mkv file, and put it on plex server with direct play. the ps5 plex app is a complete disaster, it buffers every 5 seconds, but not on samsung plex app tv or a rasberry pi with plex plugin.
so i would not recommand people to buy digital version of playstation 5 with no drive inside, because plex playstation 5 app is still not able to deal with full quality hevc files, like former ps4 pro. humanity can now know that digital world still sucks today. hopefully sony has bluray 4k drive in their gaming machine, because you cannot rely on plex on this device. the bluray 4k are still the best in 2021.
if people want quality, do not use plex on playstation 5, they are many other plex apps working a lot better, even on cheaper products. the use of the 4k bluray drive is a far more better option.
the worst of the worst is that the ps5 plex app even is buffering in 1080p at 40 mb/s bitrate. it is not negative comments it is only facts. the plex developpers can demux any 1080p bluray or 4k bluray to test it on a plex server and test it on a ps5, and not wait for users to tell them the app has a serious issue.
If the PS Apps are so bad and you know that the other apps are so good surely you should just go and use the good apps and stop worrying about the PS Apps.
It is evident from your posts that whilst you may understand video encoding you have no grasp of software/platform development.
@harroguk you are right i do not care about that, because i have the other good apps. but i am not alone on earth. there are pleople who has only a ps5
there are thousands of playstation users that have only that (you may check on reddit), and i can understand that are not really happy with it.
we cannot be good at the same time in networking and software developpement.
But as you have noticed that software is not my cup of tea, and you seem to be a software expert, why a powefull machine like playstation 5 is not able to display in direct play 1080p or 4k videos without buffering every other time. i think this is the answer every one wants to know.
(with high speed internet)
have a nice day
I have no clue as I am not a developer working on it but it “could” be something to do with the drivers that allow applications to interface with the hardware. That is not beyond the realms of possibility and is not something that plex have any control over.
As you “Dont care about that” and “there are thousands of playstation users that have only that” how about you leave the being upset to them and you walk away from a topic that you have no stake in and minimal understanding.
have a nice day.
Or how about no. He has every right to complain. I pay monthly for a Plex pass and I expect an app that functions on any platform. If it was going to be this bad, they should have said something.
Sorry but it’s a company I pay money to… I don’t care if the comments are negative or not. It’s reality
Why should he use any app? Yes software development can be tricky… I have done it myself. But that is not the customers problem.
You may not “allow” ever comment to be negative… not that you can stop it… lol allow?
Hey Plex FIX IT!!!
Lol. Get over yourself. I pay for an eco system. This is not a few bugs… this is massive issues affecting playback… it’s primary purpose.
I use Plex on my PS5 every night with no issues.
I appreciate you are having issues. That doesn’t change the fact that not everyone had access to the hardware before it launched and now that they do have access to the hardware Sony aren’t always the most helpful of first parties when it comes to understanding their hardware.
None of this is your problem obviously but you do have to live with the repercussions of these problems. Like I said before. If you don’t like it you are free to take your money and give it to someone else.
@harroguk i do think your behaviour is correct. you have the behaviour of an ostrich.
you cannot hide issues under the carpet, and tell others they do not exists
@chriscaprio is right.
you cannot say people, the app is not working, please change it or not pay for it.
there is plenty of guys that wants the ps5 app to work as expected.
direct play do not work at original bitrate which is a massive issue.
if you were in the movie theater , would you like your movies to be stopped every 5 10 15 seconds. You will go back to the main manager, and ask for a refund.
i don’t think all plex pass users want to lower the quality of their videos in order to be able to play it on PS5, except if they have a bad internet connectivity.
No one wants that, all @harroguk and I are suggesting is we have to remain patient. Speaking as a developer, being pissed off at the devs doesn’t make them solve those issues at a faster pace. I guess if that’s how you choose to deal with it go for it, but if you think @Moussa doesn’t understand that we’re all frustrated with the state of the app, and is feeling pressure to solve the mountain of issues in front of him, I don’t know what more to tell you.
Up until the last player update I was at least able to watch 1080p content and now its even transcoding that, but I’m not on here venting my frustration towards the developers. I recognize that the PS5 is a new platform with its own set of problems that they’re going to need to work through. Until it works on par with the app on my TV I’ll just use the app on my TV when I want to watch something on Plex.
You can say exactly that. Its up to you whether you listen or not.
Yup, and there are plenty of people who are prepared to wait for that
Nobody is disagreeing with this
Correct but if the manager may not give you your money back, he may give you tickets to a different theatre that uses diffferent playback tech until his is fixed.
This is also true. Your options are to wait for a fix or use a different player.
@Moussa I see the post in the PlayStation 5 update thread, and downloaded the platform update yesterday. When the player update comes through what can we expect? Looking at the patch notes it looks like this update doesn’t address any of the issues detailed in this thread. Is that correct?
@overlawled tested the new patched plex on playstation network, nothing has changed. i see no real changes , maybe the issue is occuring maybe a little bit later, but there is still direct play issues at full bitrate. still stuttring direct stream.
Make sure your player is the latest version. The update hasn’t hit my PS5 yet. The platform update has (update via the PS store) but the player update (through Plex itself) hasn’t.
@overlawled in europe it has reached my ps5 this morning update plex in PS5 notification, i see no real changes, maybe some it is somehow delayed but playback is still stopped from time to time.
it displays client version 5.10.0
platform version 2.50
Damn
this patch seems not to have any improvements, or at least slightly noticable
buy the way do you know if xbox series x have the same issue ? by the way i do not like xbox
I believe someone had posted in this topic or another topic about Xbox, and that it is experiencing similar issues on the new hardware. Not sure where that was though.
