Random Shows Refuse to play - Causes Player restart

AndroidTV latest version (have it set to auto update)
Plex Player latest version (same)

Random shows will not start properly. Entire selection under the show is affected. Naming is not problematic (Dallas, Superman, Men at Work, Young Sheldon, etc…) In order to play an affected show, you must IMMEDIATELY move forward a prescribed number of times in order for the show to start. Otherwise, it crashes… even if you do so not quick enough. Each show has it’s own level needed to move forward. Once show is 30 sec, another 60, and yet another 90. Once the show starts on screen, you can immediately go back to beginning and continue. All items are encoded using the same program and settings. The vast vast vast vast majority of my library is unaffected. I can not find a reason (naming, drive location, etc…) as to the reason why any particular show is affected.

Does not happen when played through iPhone app, Mac app, or web browser. Only on AndroidOS TV.

You’ll need to post logs of it happening if you want them to look at it:

Here you go
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-08-19_11-57-09.zip (5.0 MB)

Since it’s an issue with your Android device you’ll need to post your Client logs and not your Server logs right after it happens. Instructions for that can be found here:

Here you go.

logs.txt (4.7 MB)

Perfect. Now we just need an employee to come along and interpret them to see they can figure out what’s happening

is it possible to get a sample file that does this. or does it not always happen with same files?

As best as I can tell, it happens with the same files repeatedly. I believe there was a Sex & the City episode in the log I sent. What episode is listed (I’ve already trashed the logs). I’ll send that specific file.

ok. it is probably best to put it on Google drive or similar ( set it to anyone with link can download) and message me a link

I just looked through the log file. There isn’t a single file that is logged. I followed the directions given exactly.

Are you on mac/windows or what

I had been dealing with a similar issue on my CCwGTV where some videos would crash the player when HDMI passthrough was enabled. What I found was that a lot of my media had a cover.jpg as an attachment. And in some cases that file was pretty large (high resolution). So when played with hdmi pass through enabled it would crash the player plex uses on the CCwGTV. When I removed the cover.jpg attachment they would play fine again. I used mkvpropedit.exe --delete-attachment 1 on each effected file to fix it…

interesting. thanks for info

@VTron21 I’m trying to make a file that I can reproduce the issue with. Do you by chance know how large is large for the image? I attached a 12megapixel image and i could not repro. i may need to find larger

@BigWheel I Don’t. I just noted that files that would play without issue had one with a resolution of around SD and the ones that would had one that could have been 4K or 1080. VLC shrunk it to fit I believe. These files were also MKV files.

I could Send you one that would fail for me.

As notated above, it’s an AndroidOS TV.
