Rasplex 0.4.1 issues and feedback

Hi!

Setup the RPi with rasplex. It booted up and checked for updates. I can navigate around the GUI. I went the the appropriate area to enter my PLEX account information. I cannot sign into my channels on my NAS Plex server. Not sure where to look for help.

Thanks!

Hi there

Hyperion is broken for me.

did this version(new openelec) enable the fushicai usb video grabber ?

thx

I'd also like to know this as I'm hoping for a reliable single-box Plex + all-source Ambilight solution (with v4l2 grabber) rather than 2xPi that I have right now.

0.4.1 does not work for me. Screen remains black on boot. Green led flashes a few times, and then nothing happens. I'm back now at 0.4.0 RC3 and everything works fine again.

Note:  Similar issue with 4.1 using HDMI to DVI adapter and PC monitors.  With 4.0 I see rainbow and get full boot/functionality on Monitors and TV.  With 4.1 I do not see Rainbow on PC monitors (tested 4:3 and Widescreen) and screen remains black (backlight comes on), but works fine on TV with HDMI.  Appears to be a pre-boot issue with 4.1.

Love 4.1, thanks for the update.  I had been using PlexIT to get movie trailers for my wife but now AMT works again and I get trailers in the movie selection.  Still missing FF and RW but can live without it.  Thanks guys for all the hard work!

@swarmier has discovered that adding/changing the hdmi_drive=1 has solved the problem with HDMI to DVI cables and the blank screen. A number of other people have also confirmed that this works for them. Issue on Github now closed.

If you quickly press stop, return and then left (so pressing return and left while the video is stopping and the menu not yet visible) while playing a movie, the settings and details appear on top of each other

Stop doing it then!

Also does it in Plex HT for OSX if you are really, really quick, so not really a Rasplex issue, next version of Plex HT may rectify this.

If this wasn't enabled in 0.4.1 (from what I can tell it isn't as I'm having no success), are there any plans to add Fushicai usbtv007 to RasPlex? It has been added to the OpenELEC source.

Hi there,

I tried to do a fresh install of this version yesterday but got issues.

Sometimes menu items are unreadable (strange letters on screen) and when I try to watch a video, got a black screen or a window with the cover and control button only. I can hear the movie sound but no picture on screen.

Any idea ?

It run a Raspberry PI B (the first one, not the B+)

Thanks

I've used the new latest RasPlex release (0.4.1) with both the old B model and the new B+ model, and for me it works fine both ways. (It's the A and A+ models that are unsuitable, as they have too little RAM.)

Strange GUI displays are usually the result of an SD card either being badly flashed or being low class.
I strongly recommend using nothing less than a Class 10 SD card.
Even among Class 10 cards there are variations in speed and quality, but any Class 10 card will do.

Another potential problem is the PSU current capability.
Any PSU unable to deliver a full Ampere is bound to cause problems at some point.
The lower the current capability, the more frequent and serious the problems will be.
I've even had some problems with PSUs rated at 1 A (but perhaps not living up to it).

I've never had any problems with PSUs rated at 1.2 A or above.
But I've also never used WiFi with my RPis, and that would increase current needs.
A PSU of 1.5 A or above should be sufficient for all cases.

Thanks for your answer,

I use a Class 10 SD card (Transcend 8 Go) and RS Component PSU sold with my Rpi. No Problem with XBMC with OpenElec, only with Rasplex.

I'm gonna try to format my sd card and a new fresh install.

(It's the A and A+ models that are unsuitable, as they have too little RAM.)

Also unsuitable are the original Model B's which only had 256Mb memory - don't assume that if you have a Model B it will run Rasplex, check the memory first.

Regards.

Not sure if this is a known issue. I moved recently, and therefore haven't had it set up for a while (last used August 2014, auto-updates enabled).

I finally got to re-setting it up, and was having issues with direct playback. I would get audio stutters, and eventually occasional black screens/no audio. It seemed as those I was losing completely as opposed to buffering, but not sure if that was the case. I tried a fresh flash with the same outcome. It usually takes about 5 or so minutes to start, then does it every couple of minutes.

Any ideas where to go in order to diagnose the problem? Should try to roll back to an older version that would have been out in August?

Hi, I have a RaspberyPi B+ with a Class 10 16Gb SD Card. I have been using RasPLEX for 2 months now with a remote server and a local one and all as been working great!... Suddenly since yesterday i can't play anything on my Rasplex build. I can play movies or series on my Android clients (nexus 5 and nexus 7) and even on my mac, but not on my Pi.

I have already hard reset the build and didn't change. I cleared the card and grabbed a fresh version of Rasplex, stil the same issue. Any thoughts!?

Please help, i'm running out of ideas!

Well, it’s very hard to say what it is that has changed at your end, but as I see it the possibilities are mainly three:

1: Something wrong with your local network, either physically or firewall-wise, so that RasPlex can’t reach PMS.
2: Something wrong with your PMS (eg: the new ‘Plex Home’ usage, though that only applies to ‘PlexPass’ members as yet)
3: Something physically wrong with your RPi.

A more detailed description of the exact RasPlex behaviour might help us deduce the causes better.

Does RasPlex boot at all to its main menu ?
If so, does the main menu look normal, with the full list of your PMS library sections ?
If so, can you navigate into any of these sections to see the list of media entries (movies or shows etc).

Putting it differently:
Does the problem affect the menu and list navigation of the program, or is it only at start of playback that it fails ?

I'm having issues with my Rasplex not waking up after going into screensaver mode using my CEC Enables TV and Remote. I have tried this on both my Sony and Samsung TV and both Rasplex devices tha I have with similar issues. The only way I can wake them up is to either unplug and reboot or plug in a USB Windows Media Centre Remote that I have.

Any clues? I have been through all the settings regarding peripherals and nothing seems to work.

everything seems to work smoothly except the CEC features. It reboots immediately after turn off my TV from remote. Any workaround?

Doesn't need a workaround, change the CEC settings in Preferences, search this forum for other similar posts and solutions.

Have you tried changing the CEC settings in Preferences?

So I have the problem, that sometimes when I play something it plays it as an audio file and only the sound appears. I then have to restart the raspberry (in the menu or manually) to regain the ability to play video.

As you can imagine this is not ideal, because you have to restart everytime. This occours approximately avery 2 days or so (sometimes less, sometimes more). I don't have that problem on any other Plex client (which are many including some PHT clients).

Is that a known issue? I have not found any similar problems yet, but maybe I just searched for the wrong keywords...

I have tried all solutions that were posted in this very forum and none worked so far. I believe what happened was the Pi crashed and rebooted itself and then the TV got a wakeup signal.

If your RPi crashes every time you turn off the TV, then something is wrong with the hardware.
It could be insufficient PSU, badly flashed SD card, or something else.
But it is still a mystery why hardware crashes would be triggered by TV turn-off.

It's far more likely that RasPlex responds to the CEC protocol messages from the TV, possibly misinterpreting the turn-off message as a turn-on/restart message. There are non-standard variations in the CEC protocol of many TV manufacturers, and wherever the deviations are too large to compensate for by configuration, use of the CEC protocol must simply be avoided.

Have you tried completely disabling the CEC features of RasPlex, to check if the crash/restart persists even in this state ?
If you normally use CEC for remote control, use a temporarily connected USB keyboard instead, at least during that test.

Personally I always prefer using a miniature USB keyboard for control of my RPi, and have never had your problem.
That's just one of the reasons I'm convinced that your problem is CEC related.
