You can use a usb keyboard.
I don't know about OpenElec, but plex for OS X doesn't provide mouse support. You can control it only using a keyboard
(or an iOS/Android remote app, like officiel Plex app, Plex Remote, Yatse... - But you first have to use a keyboard to set up your pi at the first boot)
Hi, I seem to have rasplex working - took me ages, a wide variety of power supplies, tweaking until I found out that my old RaspPI was just DOA - however I get no sound. I figured that this would be due to audio being forced over the HDMI port. However, my television has broken speakers and I would like to direct the audio signal to my HiFi set which does not have a HDMI input.
On the wiki I found directions to have Rasplex output for older televisions (RCA) and analogue audio, but I want to combine HMDI video output with analogue audio (jack) output. Is this possible and how?
You can select in rasplex system preferences Jack as audio output
Hi,
thanks for the tip, it works fine.
In the other hand I have another request, somewhat more complex.
I normally have the rasplex box connected to my tv via HDMI and then from my tv to my surround sound system via toslink (optical). This setup is great for movies and I use the default HDMI config from rasplex to that effect.
Now sometimes I just like to listen to music through my surround sound systems, preferably without the TV turned on. For that effect I have the sound system connected to the rasplex box using the stereo 1/8 jack, combined with the change in rasplex config you suggested (audio output) it works fine.
Now the inconvenience is that every time I switch from watching video to listening music I need to reconfigure rasplex. Is there a way to have both enabled at the same time all the time: hdmi audio + 1/8 jack audio output? maybe some variable in the config.txt file?
I have installed Rasplex 2.0.2 on my RPi (model B, rev 2) and I experience the menu to be very slow and not as smooth as shown on the YouTube video linked at the FAQ. I have tried going through all the movies/TV series to make it cache them, but those sections are still slow when I use them.
PS: I use a myPlex server through the internet and not a local server.
1. Try using a local server.
2. Is your pi wired or connected on a wireless network ?
3. I experienced some lags when my network was busy, with some softwares which use lots of bandwidth (running on the same computer as the PMS), like Transmission (torrent), or iTunes Match (while matching songs)
Does anyone know if its possible to ssh in and install a squeezebox client like squeezelite? Would much rather use a proper plex interface that openelec + plexbmc + xbmc to achieve the same. I don’t have a pi yet, but want to put one I. Every room for whole house audio. Using plex alone would have been perfect if it supported synchronisation.
I’m a long term squeezebox and xbmc user, just starting to dabble with plex, and the server client set up makes so much more sense when you need to do more than one room.
Pi seems the ideal device to do this en mass.
If roku had a squeezeclient that was permanently active that would have done the job too.
Should be… I had the exact same idea to use Plex in this way for audio but alas it quite there and by all accounts might never be…
I have SqueezeSlave installed on a Pi and have managed to stuff it into an iPod dock powered speaker… Works a treat as a SONOS clone. Even ‘tells’ you when the Pi inside is booted ready to play and all powered from the speaker input itself… Just plug it in anywhere in (or outside) the house and your away…
That Sounds good, was planning on something similar for the kitchen an bathroom ceiling speakers. I’m fairly confident I can get a pi running squeeze alone.
What I’m wondering is if it can go alongside the plex install. As its based on openelec (I think, from reading) I think it will, as xsqueeze for xbmc uses squeezelite in the background.
I’m baffled that given plex’s server client architecture and multi room pretentions that synced video and audio hasn’t been done yet. I’m sure it’s got some technical complications, but we know audio is defo possible and squeeze is all open source.
Just trying out RaspPlex and everything runs fine except I cannot select different modes of resolution. I am stuck on 720p. Can't go up or down. Tried different TVs (although both Samsung Plasmas), Thru a receiver and directly to tv's.
I am on Rasplex 20130712 date release.
The only thing it says when I am in the menu for resolution is that it asks me whether or not I want to keep the resolution. Answering yes or no does absolutely nothing. Hitting up or down arrows next to the resolution does nothing. I can't view 1080p content.
In regards to earlier posts about channels like The Daily Show missing the first option (Full Episodes), there is a post on the Android forum about it missing from their client as well. A plex employee said that because those channels use "multi-part" media, they are unsupported and those options won't appear. Could this be the case for it not appearing in RasPlex as well?
Just attempted a RasPlex setup. Connect to TV and successfully saw the boot screen. When I get to the setup wizard I’m not able to make any selections. I’ve used different KBs with no luck. Connected them directly, even tried a powered USB hub. Don’t know what I’m missing.

Raspberry Pi: 512 Model B
8GB Class 10 SD
RasPlex 0.2.1 (mac)
The keyboard needs to be connected prior to plugging in the RPi.
I have another resolution question: I'm currently stuck in some weird "windowed" mode. I attached the RPi (RasPlex 0.2.2) via composite to an old TV and went thru ->preferences->System->Video to refresh rate and accidentially changed it from 60 to "windowed".
Now my screen is totally messed up (missing about 50% of the right side) and whatever I do, I seem not able to change it back... Anybody any idea how to fix this?
The same happens when I try to change the resolution... it just gets stuck in some windowed mode...
