Re-encoding broke all matches

So, ai just re-encoded a bunch of files from avi to MP4, rescanned and the vast majority of matches are wrong/broken.

eg. I have a file called ‘1950 Cinderella’ which produces matches for about 20 movies, NON of which are the Disney movie Cinderella released in 1950, the top match being a movie called 12-12-1950, A tribute to the film actor Rajinikanth.

Really ???

How can it be this bad ???

Please, no replies with ‘Im not following the naming convention, dates should be at the end…’, this worked perfectly well up to now

You might not like it… but there’s always truth to the good old “if you deviate, there’s no guarantee it’ll keep working because it did so in the past”.

You can certainly improve it by going with the official naming schema, naming the movie Cinderella (1950) – this way Plex wouldn’t look for 1950 as the movie name (or part of it).

Were you using the old agent before? Those would sometimes ignore anything that looked like a year so it may work. However, it could have trouble matching movies that was actually a year like the movie “2012”. The native Plex Movie agent will allow years in the title but because of that is now stricter about having the release year in ( ).

OK,

I just renamed all these files to remove the date from the start of the file name and place it at the end in braces, thui

1950 - Cinderella.mp4

becomes

Cinderella (1950).mp4

After this, NON of the movies are matched…, not one…

Why would this be…???

  1. Edit the library, choose Advanced. Make sure you are using the Plex Movie agent and scanner.

  2. Also in Advanced, deselect Prefer local metadata if it is selected.

  3. Save changes.

  4. Rescan the library.

  5. Refresh metadata for the library.

  6. If still not recognized, Plex Dance the movie.
