RE: Remote Access has stopped working

So I lost power the other day and when it came back up it wasn’t working. I’ve had trouble opening a port or setting up a static ip cause I have att and they really don’t like ppl messing with their gateways. I can but I’m not very knowledgable in this area and honestly, it’s all confusing me. Any chance at all you could help me with this?

Sorry, I’m not familiar with their gateways/routers. There might be some guides on portforward.com but you’ll need to check if they’ve got your particular model listed.

Okay, would you be able to help me bridge another router to my gateway and then maybe set up port forwarding from there?

I really want to learn this stuff but I’ve found that when i use youtube and stuff like that its difficult to ask questions and get a reply.

You’ll still need to establish a forwarding rule on the gateway in order to access it from the outside. Consider each router/gateway to be a door and the forward a set of keys to get specific traffic through… for remote access to work you’ll need the keys for each door → setting rules to forward the traffic from the (WAN/outside-facing) gateway through every active network component to the actual Plex Media Server.

So I lost power the other day and when it came back up my remote access wasn’t working. It was working just fine prior to the outage. I’ve had trouble opening a port or setting up a static ip cause I have att and they really don’t like ppl messing with their gateways. I can but I’m not very knowledgeable in this area and honestly, it’s all confusing me. Any chance anyone could help me with this? Also, another thing that’s strange is when I go to the remote access tab I’ve got the green check, and when I click on it, it’s saying that access outside my network is working but when I go into the app from my phone it says it’s offline. So I’m really confused as to why it’s not working and I don’t know much about this stuff. I’d love to learn if anyone is willing to help me.

I’ve an AT&T BGW320.

Static IP Address
The router has a DHCP range assigned (see screenshot below).

On your Plex Media Server, manually configure it for an IP address outside of the DHCP range.

For example, if the DHCP range on the router is 192.168.1.64 to 253, assign an IP address lower than .64 to the Plex server.

Login to your router to verify DHCP range before configuring a manual IP address on the Plex server. You will need the router password to see the DHCP page. The default password should be on the back of the router.

Also, ping the ip address before configuring the server just to make sure it is not in use. You can ping it from any system on the network. Timeouts or Host Unreachable messages means nothing is using the address and it is OK to use it for the server.

c:\>ping 192.168.1.3

I think I fixed it. I’m able to access it from my phone when I have my wifi turned off. I’m just waiting for a friend to tell me it’s working for them as well. Thank you soo much.

Monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View.

It will show you if the connection is Local, Remote, or Indirect.

If Indirect, you are streaming via Plex Relay. The stream is tunneled through servers at Plex and limited to 2 Mbps. If this is the case, review the remote access configuration on your Plex server and router.
