Re-runs are not showing in recording schedule

I just purchased and set up the HDHomeRun Quatro and I had no issues getting Plex to see it and it’s streaming great. However, when I try to record old shows, it says “No Upcoming Shows” when there are plenty of upcoming shows. For example, That’s 70’s Show has about 22 airings over various channels over the next few weeks, but it doesn’t show up in the Recording Schedule at all. I’m seeing the same thing for new shows. I select to record Modern Family new and old, in the Recording Schedule it show’s the new shows are set to record, but none of the old ones. Even when I select to record a specific show that is a re-run, it shows that I’ve set a recording when looking at the show, but not it the Recording Schedule. I made sure that all resolutions are fine and all channels. Any ideas?

Running PMS Version 1.12.0.4829 on Mac 10.11.6.

Guessing you have the record option set to “New Airings Only”, choose “New and Repeat Airings”.

I’ve uploaded some screenshots to show my settings and what I’m seeing. Screenshot #1 I have repeat airings selected and in the background you can see there is an episode scheduled for tonight at 9:30pm. But in screenshot #2 I don’t have any segments for 70’s show. My advanced settings are:

Resolution: Any
Don’t replace lower resolution items.
Do allow partial airings.
0 minutes before and after.
Channel and airing time: Any
Remove commercials: Use DVR Settings
Keep: All episodes
Never Delete After Watching

Log files would help. Go to Settings/Server/Help/Download Logs button. Upload zip file to this thread.

I’m not seeing where there was any new recording scheduled.

Thanks for looking John, but that must be the issue. I’m telling Plex to record the shows, but it’s just not doing anything. Looking at the show has the recording settings, but it’s not actually going to my schedule. Only first time airs are recording. Even if I try to record one show that is a re-run, it won’t record. I can’t see anything else in my settings that would change this, so I just don’t know what to do.

I did some more testing if you wouldn’t mind looking at my logs again. It looks like it’s not every show, but it’s definitely happening. I can’t see anything that they have in common.

11:19:34pm PST - Batman - All the re-runs showed up to record.

11:20:08pm PST - Friends - Nothing showed up to record.

11:21:41pm PST - Will and Grace - New and re-runs showed up.

11:25:00pm PST - Mom - Re-runs showed up.

11:25:59pm PST - 70’s Show - Nothing showed up to record.

Do you happen to already have these specific episodes in any of your libraries?
If not this is probably related to https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/311965/items-falling-off-epg-before-dvr-can-record-them#latest

Different view possibly to the same underlying issue.

I would suggest doing an optimize database to see if this clears up the slow query messages.

I am also curious about a couple of other messages I see:

I still see no messages in the log where you tried to schedule the recordings you listed above. Can you delete the Friends recording and then schedule it again?

I also just realized that you do not appear to have Debug for the logs turned on. Please verify the following settings under Settings/Server. Ensure Advanced Settings are displayed and verify that Enable Plex Media Server debug logging is selected, Enable Plex Media Server verbose logging is not selected, and Allow Plex Media Server tokens in logs is not selected.

You hit the nail on the head @cayars! The shows I was having trouble with I did have in my library already. They are a bad quality and I wanted to record a better quality version. I removed the first 2 seasons of That 70’s Show and now they show up in my recordings schedule!!! Thank you this was driving me crazy!

@johnm_ColaSC Yes /Volumes is internal storage. I have a Mac Pro with 4 internal storage drives. /Users/beskeen is a valid user. When going to the path listed the location /Users/beskeen/Caches/PlexMediaServer is not there.

I believe there is a setting under Advanced that allows for recordings of duplicates if the new one is of higher resolution than the original.

As @AmazingRando24 pointed out and what I was getting at:
Change the option “Don’t replace lower resolution items.” you have set. You are currently telling Plex not to record the episodes since they already exist. :slight_smile:
