I have a hdhomerun 4k connect and a WD EX2 ultra drive any suggestions for a dvr option… just use silicondust (HDHomerun) or is there a service like plex that works better? Thanks
The most popular alternatives I hear about are Channels DVR, Emby, Jellyfin and NextPVR. Jellyfin and NextPVR are free although you have to provide an EPG source. I use NextPVR and create an XMLTV epg using Zap2Xml. You can also get a Schedules Direct subscription for $25 per year.
Don’t know if you can use HDHomeRun with NextPVR – I have a Hauppauge QuadHD PCI Express card for my PC. As I recall, HDHomeRun is the only tuner supported directly by Jellyfin.
Channels DVR and Emby are paid services. I constantly hear great things about Channels DVR, although it is also expensive.
Thank you I am looking into Channels and hdhomeruns own dvr software. This just getting a tv show recorded is 1000xs harder than it was in 1988
Yeah, definitely can see why you would feel that way after these useless months with Plex. There’s just no commitment there to fix the many long standing problems/deficiencies. Honestly, other choices can be far more reliable with more features. NextPVR works great for me – but it did require a little more knowledge/effort to setup initially. I’m sure Channels DVR will be great for you if you want something that just works. Maybe Plex could be that eventually – but I’m not holding my breath …
