I just ripped season 1 of Star Trek Discovery, and cannot figure out how to get them labelled as episodes instead of 14 different movies.
Are they in a folder that is for your Plex Movie library or for your Plex TV Shows library?
Okay, so first things first:
You need to create a top-level directory for Movie and a second one for TV Shows, e.g.
d:\media\movies
d:\media\tvshows
Movie files go in the movies folder, and tv shows go in the tvshows folder.
Next you want to make sure that your files are named properly so that Plex can identify them and display poster art, etc.
Finally, you add the movies folder to your Movie Library and you create a separate TV Shows library for your tv shows.

Done. Now all my videos are gone from Plex and it won’t let me add the new folders I’ve created. “Your changes could not be saved”.
I went and put things back in the old folder, but set them up as that article suggested, separating TV and Movies, and the files came back but they’re still all movies. Also all the fixed names and posters I spent all day setting up are gone and it’s not pulling any album data on its own.
At this point, you probably need to do the The Plex Dance ™ because Plex’s database/metadata is out of sync with your filesystem…
Simple shutdown plex, wait a minute, load plex back up, wait another minute, then add the new paths.
Ok so restarting Plex didn’t work on the web app but it worked on the Windows app, as far as letting me edit the pathways.
It’s still not recognizing TV as TV and has now labeled s1e8 of Star Trek Discovery as a movie of the same title (it’s the middle of these three). The “Plex dance” has done nothing.
Anybody? I nagged the devs and they keep pointing me here please help out
It looks like you are still trying to add tv shows to your movie library.
You must completely separate movies and TV shows.
Both into separate folders on disk and into separate libraries in Plex.

Let the ‘movie’ library only see the folder with the movies.
Let the ‘tv show’ library only see the folder with the tv shows.
