I totally agree. It’s amazing to me how many different threads of hundreds-to-thousands of users have been started to get this message across, not to mention all of the 1-star reviews in the Apple App Store. Just sort by “most recent” and the problem is glaringly obvious.
I love this and agree the analogy fits perfectly:
I’m getting close to the point of actively turning people away from plex in a very big way. People need to be warned if Plex isn’t going to correct this. I worry that hitting them hard in the pocketbook may be the only channel of communication they’re willing to listen to… So be it.
Here’s a summary of the rest of my thoughts as well:
Nope, not good enough - 75% is WAY too low of a bar. 100% or nothing, otherwise, what’s the point of it? It’s always a downgrade,
That’s like taking my car into a mechanic, and saying, “look, don’t give me my car back until 75% of its features still work. Yeah, that’s a non-starter.
The fact that they released it just shows how much they do not care about their customers at all. This company is clear garbage, they have showed their hand. It’s not about you, it’s about them, they couldn’t care less what a user thinks. If they cared at all they would have listened to ANY of the devs or ANYONE who had used the “beta” (actually alpha at best) app, and never released it to the public, there are so many problems its unlistable.
This platform has become literally unusable for the majority of my users. It’s embarrassing, frankly. I don’t want to look into Jellyfin but honestly speaking this platform has become such a mess I’m beginning to feel like I no longer have any option.
Are they primarily using just mobile to watch plex (phones and tablets) instead of through a TV? Because while the new experience rollout has caused some issues for mobile users, nothing else has really changed on the TV side of things yet
If you think Plex is not great on mobile I would caution against Jellyfin. It is many levels below even the current Plex app new experience. Emby would be a better option but still levels below Plex IMO. Especially on mobile. I’ve tried all 3 and had to come back to Plex as it was really not a great experience on Emby or Jellyfin IMO.
@Cfretz244 I agree with @MrFancyPants1999 on this one. If your users can revert their mobile apps then I would highly suggest they do that, at least for now. Emby and Jellyfin both take a lot of heavy lifting to get them close to the user friendliness of Plex. Don’t even consider Kodi as they chose to stay local only, no remote streaming options out of the box.
I am in this same position currently. My users on mobile (iOS/Android) were completely crippled by the new experience update. Anyone on tvOS/Xbox/Roku seems to still be completely fine as those updates haven’t been pushed out publicly yet.
Thanks for the response, although it’s bad news . Yeah, the vast majority of my users are phones and tablets. I’ve been hoping that jellyfin/emby were viable alternatives, so that’s disappointing to hear. I guess here’s hoping that Plex decides at some point that it cares about its home media users again.
What the hell is this ■■■■■■■ bullshit of an app. Please turn back to the old mobile app.
Change your management and push the devs in first decision possitions
We’re PAYING USERS, who paid a LOT OF MONEY for a PREDICTABLE EXPERIENCE.
Plex’s wants, and their users’ needs are TOTALLY different. Plex wants to bring on as many featured things as possible, and to advertise to their captive users. It’s sick the way they tricked everyone into this situation.
We don’t want these ads! We don’t want promoted content! Stop abusing users’ trust! You can’t get it back easily.
Every few months, PLEX does something totally unpopular with their users, and it’s dropped on them by surprise. Live TV, Tidal, UI/UX changes nobody asked for.
Releasing this app was a CRAZY decision, and we’re all starting to look for alternatives.
Every time I see someone saying “I’m going to switch to Emby/Jellyfin!” I knew in the back of my mind they’d be back. Those options just don’t compete with Plex.
I used to work for Kinko’s back in the 90s, the kitchy copy shop that was open 24 hours. Late one night, a customer came in and wasn’t satisfied with our turnaround time and stormed out. The manager on duty said… “They’ll be back. Where else are they going to go?” Sure enough, within the hour the customer returned and was much more agreeable to our turnaround time.
Who were Kinko’s you may ask? Good question. They were a company that made a series of bad decisions trying to become something they were not. As a result, they don’t quite exist today as they once used to.
I’m going to spin my Emby server back up and see how it’s doing.
Give Jellyfin a spin. I’ve it running side by side to my plex server and its come A LONG LONG way since the last time I looked at it. Once I feel I need to move off plex we’ll just switch over. Think lots of us true media enthusiasts still using plex have a plan to move just in case …
I’m most likely deluded but I still hope plex will get better and as long as the legacy app works then I’m kinda okay. The new one is dog crap but maybe by this time next year it will be ready to replace the legacy one.
Well, everybody can be wrong, I switched to Emby and I will not come back until a while…
But I never say never, but before I come back, Plex has to shift a few things back to the roots.
People tend to forget what Plex was used for: streaming you own media from your own server…
Not Plex media through a central authentification server!!!
Holy ■■■■… I use Plex Desktop and didn’t any changes, but then I updated the app on iPad to watch downloaded versions and was like …. HOLY SHIET.
Wtf is this mess? Shortcuts and keyboard navigation barely works, download section is just a huge dump with no sorting and no breakdown by shows or seasons? Wtf is wrong with Plex, were you hit on the head while working on this stupid update? At least release the old app as legacy, because I don’t want to use this pathetic garbage. PLEX IS TO WATCH YOUR LOCAL CONTENT.
With ■■■■■■■ regards, Plex Pass users for over 7 years.
Still a disaster today

It was working fine before, this disaster need a backoff urgently
