Remember Selected tab not working

Hi mrc3082, thanks for posting that information. Unfortunately for me that doesn’t help. As a matter of fact that is one of the options I would LOVE to keep on (if it would ever stop defaulting itself). If plex would ever fix, or even investigate my issue that would be a great feature that I would keep on.

The other features I like are the “skip commercials automatically”, sort TV shows by “last episode date”, sort MOVIES by “last episode date”, I also would really love if “remember selected tab” would stay on because I sort TV and MOVIES by “library”, not the default “recommended” tab that it keeps defaulting to.

Thats why its totally aggravating that every time I set these options it causes a fault in plex on the next run and it just takes EVERYTHING back to default.

I can literally cause this fault behavior anytime I like to prove the behavior, but that still isn’t enough for any staff here to step up and look into my issue. Apparently since i’m the only one with this problem I am totally ignored.

I also just last night confirmed this “bug” is present on any Roku device using plex. Its not just 1 device, or 1 tv. For me its the Roku TV in my bathroom, the Roku device attached to my Sceptre TV, and now the Roku dongle attached to my sunroom projector. All 3 of them have the exact same issue. If you change the settings listed above, then restart the app, it defaults and you are greeted with the “customize navigation” screen and all your settings are reset back to default.

Happens EVERY SINGLE TIME!

Ruins the experience for me, and the fact of zero support after this many months later just disappoints me even further, especially being able to easily reproduce the problem. But all I can do is tell everyone I know the kind of treatment to expect here from plex. I have talked a few friends out of a plexpass, and until there is support offered thats the only thing I can do.

Just to show you EXACTLY whats going on I am posting this video. It takes less than 2 minutes to cause this fault, I hope you’ll watch it to see why I’m in here for so long begging for help.

What youre gonna see in the video is me opening plex to be greeted with the “customize navigation” from the last time I used plex when I set my particular settings. Then you’re going to see me change the following settings…

Remove “watchlist” and “movies & shows on plex” categories…
Turn ON “remember selected tab”…
Reorder “live tv” above “movies”…
Reorder “TV shows” above “movies”…
Set “TV shows” to “library” instead of “recommended” (because recommended doesn’t show all my content)…
Sort “TV shows” by “last episode date added”…
Set “movies” to “library” instead of “recommended” (because recommended is empty)…
Sort “movies” by “date added”…
Exit plex…
Reopen plex…
and VIOLA!! We are back to the “customize navigation” screen once again with all my settings forgotten.

Imagine this is you, and every time you used this app you had to either go through the same process just for that one viewing session, or learn to live with out it and not set any personal settings. Totally sucks for me, and knowing nobody gives a hoot to fix it just makes it even worse.

I sure hope you can understand my frustration, plex sure doesn’t!!!

Anyways thanks for trying to help, I greatly appreciate it. Looks like community help is my only chance here, fingers crossed!

Do you have multiple accounts on your Plex server (managed users, for example. Is the account you’re currently using the server admin or another user?

Can you try the following? Open the app again and just select the initial set of libraries. Immediately after that, instead of exiting, select Sign Out. If you can sign in as a different user, do so. If not, sign in as the same user. In either case go through the full configuration process you did before, but with one change: Enable “Automatically Sign In.” Then restart the app to see if the problem still occurs.

Since you’re seeing this with multiple devices, I’m curious if this may not be an account issue of some sort. You could always create another test user and invite it to your server and try with that, just to rule it out.

No other accounts, I am the only server admin/user.

I have done this before in this thread and the result remained the same. I did sign in as another user and the behavior didn’t persist, however upon signing back into my account the behavior continued. I am going to go try this again with another user and be more thorough to see if I can get it to do the same thing. I will post the results.

However even if it is something with only my account its not something I can fix. It’s not like I have some rogue setting set. I still need someone to see why my only my account is ONLY failing on Roku devices. plex on my Mac, xbox, iPhone, and iPad all function as they should. The only devices to have any issues at all are ALL my Roku devices.

Thank you for posting, I really appreciate your participation!

Ok heres the update. I have an old user profile for my gf. I shared my library with that profile, I logged in as that profile and could see all my server content. I set all the above mentioned settings the way I like and exited the application. Just like mentioned above, this users settings ARE saving. I haven’t seen the “customize navigation” on this account at all yet. Even without it not being used in years it still logged right in without the “customize navigation” every showing up.

However on “Live TV”, My source “Antenna” option is not showing up. I do have the access granted on the server, but even after a restart the option is not there.

I also can’t set some of the plexpass settings that I really enjoy like automatic commercial skip. I’m sure there are more but off the top of my head that is my favorite.

I would just leave the roku TVs signed in on that profile since this profile doesn’t default all the settings, but since my plexpass apparently doesn’t share across my own server, and for whatever reason my antenna isn’t showing up, this trick doesn’t work for me either.

Just like way back earlier in this thread when we confirmed that only my account seems to have this problem, we still haven’t figured out why or how to fix it. Thats why I’m so totally relient on the staff at plex, which is also why I’m totally screwed.

Is there anything else you think I can do to either solve this issue, or at least get some more valuable information in case ever anyone that can help actually does?

Again, thanks for posting, I appreciate it!

Ok I just successfully added that user to my home, and can now use my plex pass settings, but still unable to see my source “antenna”. If I could just get it to see that source I could at least just stay logged into that account and not be sitting here hoping for someone to fix mine. I mean my account would still be messed up of course, but I could at least then use her account and go about my business and not be sitting here waiting on help.

@DeewNikoms420

I only really meant this as a troubleshooting step, but understand why you’d want to just get this behind you. In that vein, did you enable access to live TV & DVR for the second account you’re using?

@BigWheel

Does the fact that they can’t reproduce the issue with a second account, only with their own, provide you with any additional clues as to where to troubleshoot next with this issue? (Read the previous four comments for context.)

@pshanew

Yes I came back to post that once I accepted the home invite a new setting popped up in restrictions. I just turned Live tv and DVR both on and I’m about to go test to see if now I have everything I’ve been hoping for even if it is on someone else’s account. Im sooooo happy now for this functionality!!!

Also its worth mentioning that this problem only started around the creation of this thread. for at least 2 years before that I had zero issues, then an update started this nightmare for me.

Anyways thanks again for so much great information.

edit:

Confirmed!! The antenna source is now visible! I finally have all the features and user experiences that I haven’t gotten to enjoy since pre Nov 23. I’m ecstatic to have found this work around even if I do have to be my gf on all the roku devices.

I hope one day someone finally helps me restore my own account to its former glory, but at least until then I can go back enjoying the plex app on roku!

Bath time is gonna be awesome tonight!

You’re welcome, glad you found a workaround.

it does not unfortunately

Hi again!

I have done more experimenting and heres what I have found out.

Instead of continuing to use my gfs profile I decided to make one specifically for the roku tvs that are having the trouble.

At first I tried to just create a “managed user”. I Named this user Bathroom. Since this is just a “managed user” I still had to log in to plex as my admin profile, then switch to the “managed user”.

Unfortunately the bug persisted into this “managed user”. It too would default settings after a restart.

Then I decided to create a whole new plex account all-together since my gfs profile wasn’t affected, but anything attached to mine would be.

I created the plex profile BathroomTV, and then invited it to use my “plex home” just as I had done with my gfs profile. Everything works just fine and this is how it will stay until someone fixes my account, so probably forever.

That being said I did notice something odd, and thats the reason I came back here to post it.

If I log into the unaffected “BathroomTV” profile, and uncheck the option to “Log in automatically”, upon next restart I am greeted with the option of either selecting the “BathroomTV” profile, or now the choice of my admin profile (I assume since the “BathroomTV” profile is HOME under the admin profile BOTH show up). Anywho heres where it gets interesting…

If I choose my admin profile, and change any settings, then upon next restart BOTH profiles default once again.

If I log into the “BathroomTV” profile and change the settings, nothing bad happens. It so far has continued to remember all my settings every time.

If I log into the admin profile and change anything, BOTH profiles default.

This tells me the issue has something to do with the way the Roku TV saves user data. If logging into my admin account also erases the data from the “BathroomTV” profile that typically would actually keep its settings, then that means its NOT simply my account that has the issue. Logging into my account causes everyones profile to default upon next run. I hope someone techy sees this and it makes sense to them. I sure would love some attention on this.

Anyways the workaround for now is to just sign into the “BathroomTV” profile and leave the option “Sign in automatically” option ticked, and to not sign into my admin profile anymore at all on these Roku TVs.

Bumpity bump

Still no change for me. Got tired of created account not having admin privileges and having to switch user every time i wanted to delete content so i am back to being stuck on roku tvs defaulting to the first run splash screen and forgetting ALL my settings. Sigh.
