Server Version#: 1.22.1.4275
Player Version#: Any
I’ve had Remote Access enabled for years however it has randomly stopped working. I have the message ‘Not available outside your network’ and as such no-one can access it remotely. I have tried restarting Plex and rebooting my server but this hasn’t fixed the problem. I haven’t changed anything and my router supports UPnP and agin hasn’t changed in years. I know Plex automatically updated a little while ago. I’m not sure if this is when remote access stopped working…
Same issue, on windows, all remote access gone and relay not working Version 1.22.2.4282, looks like issue on Plex side

I seems to have got it working again. I disabled my VPN (which has been running for a year) and tried to re-enable remote access. This worked so I re-enabled my VPN. Remote access kept working. Very odd…
Mines still down, if I retry it goes green for a second and then straight back to red, few other reports on Reddit as well.

Are you having any problems with the quality being dropped while watching shows? I noticed mine yesterday after doing the update, Have a 1080 episode and it plays 720 and cant change the quality inside the player on my apple tv. Just is forced to “convert to 720p” inside playback settings
I have found a possible solution though I can’t explain why it has worked. I use an ASUS router and within the settings for the router there is s DoS protection setting in the Firewall, with this enabled (as it has been for 12 months+) I get the remote access issue described above. Once I turn this off it seems to resolve. This may be very specific to my setup but seems strange other users are having the same issue…
I’ve checked mine again and I have the same error again. I paused my VPN for 5 mins and instantly it worked… I then resumed my VPN and it worked for about a minute… I have the error back again. I may try switching my VPN off for longer and seeing if that works. I’ll also check out my router for the DoS setting.
Same problem after updating Plex to 1.22.2…4282 on Synology NAS. All remote access breaks. I had it working for a few moments after multiple Plex restarts but remote access goes down after only a few moments.
I’d like to roll back to the previous version but Plex makes it nearly impossible to roll back. Easier to sit and wait for a fix in the next update. Any suggestions?
Good Luck

I have had plex for years as a basic user. No issues with remote access even when using my VPN. All good. I then sign up to their lifetime plex pass and honestly can’t get remote access to work. I have checked double checked and re checked the settings. ive set IP address / port forwarding. ive reset everything.
I can set remote access up and it works for about 2-3 mins and then drops. every single time I’m having issues. I am always getting messages about indirect play and also about insecure connections. I never ever had these issues and didn’t change a thing until I paid for a Plex Pass.
I am not new to all this so I know what settings to look for and what to change but it does not seem to help. Remote access keeps dropping out.
all software and players are up to date.
Seems Plex offer zero tech support, even as a paying customer

I used to have this problem when the VPN was on.
Plex doesn’t need the VPN, but I do - so I set the VPN to bypass Plex and it’s all puppies and butterflies at the Ranch.
For me it was easy - I just added Plex to the Split Tunneling list in PIA’s software. YMMV.
Seems you are working on my system. I have the EXACT problem. All perfect until the 1.22.2.4282 update then ALL remote access breaks. BTW I’m not using an VPN in front of the Synology Plex

have you checked the apps remote quality setting or the auto quality setting. or if there is a remote stream limit on server?
Well… now its down again. I had remote access with only 720p conversion for a couple of minutes. Weird because i didnt change anything in my remote quality setting… was always on 1080p since day one
not sure which app you are using but i would look at the playback info or dashboard to get a hint at why it is lowering quality.
as far as remote access would need to see logs after you enable it to see why it might have failed.
Hi. Thanks for reply
Ive not posted logs on here before. Can you explain how so i can share what might be wrong? If several of us have an issue its more likely firmware tho isnt it?
I log on and check my Plex setting from a MacBook on the same network as my Plex Server which sits on a Qnap Nas - all firmware us up to date. I also use LG and Samsung TVs, XBOX, firestick and Ps4 to stream to remotely
All up to date with their respective apps too.
Remote access stays live for a matter of minutes, sometimes less and then fails.
Please help
I’m not really sure what you are calling “firmware” honestly. but if you are referring to the server version then millions of people have no issue so no is it not necessarily that. We have found a times things like all folks having issue ended up having the same ISP that started blocking default ports the server uses or they set their network to a noncompliant local ip schema.
To be clear I’m not saying it is an issue with your system, ISP or local network. It may very well be a server issue with new version or something on our backend. You all may have different causes that produced the same symptom. The only way to begin to attempt to figure it out is look at what the server is doing when it attempt to connect to and update plex.tv in the logs.
to get logs go to troubleshooting section of server setting and download them to a zip file. You can then either attach to a reply here, by dragging and dropping on the text entry. Or you can message them to me only by clicking on my username select message
and attach there.

This is a good point, I am using Virgin Media in the UK, be interested to see if others with this issue are using the same ISP. FYI, since adjusting the DOS protection setting on the router I have not seen any issues. Digging a bit further, if I use an open port checker site on the port I have open for Plex, with the DOS protection enabled it shows the port closed, once disabled it is open again. Still not sure on the root cause of the issue, could be latest router firmware doing something odd, I will look into that. Not particularly concerned with turning off the DOS protection but just seems strange this suddenly started with no change my side…
Hi BigWheel,
I am having the same issue.
The Webplayer is functioning properly. Local everything is working perfectly fine but as soon as Android or SMartTV Clients try to initiate a remote stream they are not receiving anything. Ive checked and the Plex server is creating transcoded files to hand out but it never reaches the client. It seems that the issue of April 6th is not resolved. My best guess is that there is an issue with the relay servers of PLEX. Ive checked my ISP and they do not filter or inspect on any port. I have this issue with multiple servers that are connected to multiple ISPs.
So please let your engineers investigate this issue.
