Remote Access issues on 1 of 2 servers

I also have issues with remote access, for that matter access in general. I have a Shield TV and a windows 10 Plex server on the same network, both are port forwarded and assigned static IP’s in the router. The win 10 server is accessible remotely, the Shield is not. Presumably this means the issue lies within the Plex software and not my router or ISP. Another issue that may or may not be relevant to the aforementioned remote access issue is that the Shield server disappears from my Plex account and cannot be seen by my PC yet other smart devices on my network can stream from it. A full reinstall of Plex and subsequent rebuild of all library’s fixes the issue -temporarily- only for it to return for no specific reason. I have read any and all forums/guides/posts that I can locate and watched countless hours of videos, to no avail. What is the problem? Why was it not a problem years ago with the same hardware, network, router, ISP and media, albeit older Plex versions that had none of the additional fluff such as local TV, movies and other associated bloat? At this point I am leaning towards the only logical answer, Plex-is-broken.

I would be thrilled to be proven wrong, and if anyone has any information to dissuade me from my conclusion please, do tell.

I’ve moved this into a separate thread in order not to mix it up with the other discussion/issue.

Just for confirmation… you have 2 individual port forwards – each with their own/specific public tcp port that’s forwarded to the private IP of one of your server?
I also assume you have enabled remote access on both servers and specified the respective public port in the server’s remote access configuration?

Is the SHIELD server fully claimed and linked to your account?
The issue you describe about the server getting disconnected sounds fishy and might indeed by linked / contribute to the remote access situation.

2 port forwards, 2 different devices, same router, same open port 32400. The Shield becomes visible as a server and streams to all devices -except- the PC that has the other Plex server, said PC/Plex is visible to the Shield and remotely, the Shield Plex is not showing a remote connection conformation for an extended time period. I cannot claim the Sheild/Plex on the Shield server interface, no options exist and the the log in to use my Plex Pass just redirects me to the Plex/tv login page nor are there any options in the Shield/Plex client that allow for claiming after being logged in. When the Shield shows up on the PC that has the other Plex server and I am logged into Plex the Shield dose show as having existed but never shows as being connected and therefor will not allow claiming.

If you want to enable remote access on two different servers you can’t use the same external port for both

As an example, in your router

Both internal ports set to 32400

External port for computer 1 set to 32400

External port for computer 2 set to 32401 (Shield)

I tried that but with completely different port numbers not 32400, the PC was 32400 the Shield 50000 and a few others port numbers as well. This issue also persists even if the PC is not turned on.

Just to be clear, your ports should be something like:
External 32400 → Internal 32400
External 32401 → Internal 32400

All TCP. The internal port must always be 32400 regardless of what the external port is set to.

Also, check something like canyouseeme.org to see if it reports your external ports as being open.

The PC Plex is working the issue is the Shield TV, after attempts to change the configuration on the Shield TV the server portion of the Shield TV interface is no longer showing at all. I presume it is due to not being able to claim it as a server, come to think of it all of this started occurring when I was forced to change my password due to the Plex data breach…

If anyone sees this thread and has a Shield TV as a Plex server that is actually working remotely can you tell me what version of Shield TV (2017 or 2019) and what version of the Shield software as well as the android version you are currently using

I don’t have a SHIELD but there’s tons of threads from SHIELD users who don’t seem to have a general issue. If this is linked to the password change… have you actually re-claimed the SHIELD server after changing your password?

What message do you get when you enter http://[SHIELD IP address]:32400/identity ? I’m specifically interested in the claimed="" attribute value. If this isn’t 1, your server isn’t claimed.

All I get is unable to connect…
Is the IP supposed to be the internal or public IP?
Is the port after the IP supposed to be the external port set on my router or the internal 32400?
The Shield TV dose not have a web browser is this supposed to be entered on a browser on a different device other then the Shield TV?

Otherwise, what other method can be used to claim the server on the Shield TV?

So there is no longer any support, no longer anyone that cares about those of us that came to plex to play videos from our own NAS, now it’s all about making money from streaming services. Why don’t you just give someone the software for playing NAS and let them take it open source. I paid for lifetime and all I get is problems without support. Amazing how the streaming services always works and the NAS abilities are always broken. Could it be that we paid for the creation of the apps and now you just want to make money off of us? Sad.

Plex says it can’t find my server but emby and vlc found and payed the videos without issue. Why is that? Why is it that VLC and emby play everything no problem and plex says you need to update this or that. Oh but the streaming works just fine, no issue. Wonder if it’s that plex wants us to watch their commercials on streaming and make them cash? Yep.

The internal ip of the Shield

On the Shield
Settings → Network & Internet → Connected (copy that ip address) Let’s say it’s 192.168.1.95

In a browser on the computer enter the address tom gave you to see if the server is claimed
Using the example ip above http://192.168.1.95:32400/identity

If it’s not claimed, on the same browser enter http://192.168.1.95:32400/web

See if you can sign in there and claim the server

@mediastream246 Did you not receive help for a Plex issue because somebody hijacked your thread with a rant about a totally unrelated problem?

Start your own thread and ask for help if you need it

There are people here trying to help corporall if you hadn’t noticed. Everybody but you of course
