Thank you! I installed the previous version but it didn’t help so I looked further on my NAS configuration to find a solution. Finally I switched to a static IP and that did the trick!
Yes, that’s always a good idea.
It’s also worth keeping a few previous Plex releases incase you ever need to roll back.
I’ve got it working on the new version…it can be sorted. Follow the security instructions at the top of the screen.
This solution did not work for me.
RE: All the other suggestions in here, I already have a static IP, and will look to roll back my plex server right now.
Can’t believe the only way to fix this issue is to go back to an older version and their customer support is completely silent about it. Hilarious.
any more news on this, as im having the same problem. it seems to have started when i updated plex. everyone outside the network has an indirect connection and it keeps transcoding because of it.
Any help from Plex customer service???
You’ve no chance mate. They’re absolutely hopeless at helping. The admin are non existent.
I’m part of an admin team for a streaming service so know what it takes to provide tech support. It’s constant. I’d be embarrassed to be associated with this lot.
Having the same problem. I’m just gonna cancel the subscription since I’m paying for something that doesn’t work half of the time. Any other service that you can recommend?
hi,
i will cancel too and rollback to kodi (android/*elec) and infuse (ios).
For remote, i just access to my libraries via webdav.
no more dependency to a boring and complex cloud service…
I start with plex, and I have exactly the same problem.
I’m at least reassured to see that I didn’t screw up anything with the installation or the settings, I’ll take my trouble in patience.
My status is green, connected, after a few seconds after changing tabs, it shows me disconnected, while on smartphone in data, it still works…
On the other hand, in the Dashboard, I’m in indirect, and it encodes at 1mbps, it’s been 2 hours that I’m looking for how to set this weak encoding, but apparently, it’s due to the bug mentioned here.

Just wanted to add that I’m having the same problem. It’s incredibly frustrating, since I recently purchased a lifetime pass.
What do you think the odds are that I could get a refund?
I’d imagine that it’s difficult to get a refund for a digital item. Some will be working and others aren’t.
An update on mine, the windows 10 server is down again, the windows 8.1 server is up and running. Shield server is fine too.
Could always contact trading standards? The lack of help is concerning and would possibly be a platform for you to establish the complaint.
What about Emby?
Give it a shot and see if you like Emby…
Same issue here, getting pretty pissed that we are not getting an official reply
Not sure what OS your running but…
I have a number of PMS servers that run on Windows 7 and none of them have this issue
Now I do see from time to time that the remote indicator is red, goes green after a while but that’s just the indicator, users sill can connect and do whatever. I just ignore the indicator till someone texts (rare).
I know there is a ton of consternation on the Plex forums currently regarding Remote Access suddenly breaking and flipping between connected and not connected. I ran into the same issue on my server.
After many many hours troubleshooting and rebuilding: the issue actually stemmed from the Denial of Service protection on my Asus AX-11000 (if you have that model it is a checkbox under the Firewall setting). The second I disabled that specific option, canyouseeme started reporting it could connect and Plex/Emby has had zero connection issues.
Important Note: that setting has been on since I purchased the router around a year ago. Plex only stopped working with remote access within the last 30 days. I have no idea what changed but thought id share the solution that worked for me.
Server OS:
Windows 10 Pro for Workstations
Plex Server Build:
1.21.2.3939
This happens to me every single time I update my server. I have to fiddle around with all my network settings and restart everything and some random combination of all that eventually ends up resolving it.
I last updated over a year ago because I was sick of the rigmarole. Well, I decided to go ahead and update again, and, guys, you’re never gonna believe it. It broke my remote connection yet again. Literally nothing else changed other than the PMS version.
If I ever get it working again it will be the last time I ever update since they know that this happens and still won’t even acknowledge it let alone fix it.
Does your server have a static IP?
I have static IP and have downgraded several updates… still happening. Time to start looking for a PMS alternative.
