Remote Access with DD-WRT on Netgear R9000 not working

Server Version#: 4.87.2
Player Version#:

I’m trying to set up remote access for my Nvidia Shield Pro Plex server on my DD-WRT router. I’ve followed instructions for setting up Port Forwarding in the router, but the message in the Plex Remote Access settings says “Not Available outside your network.” I hit the Retry button next to Manually specify public port and for a couple seconds it says “Fully accessible outside your network” but then it changes to “Not available.”

I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Is there some more information I can provide that might provide a clue as to where I’m going wrong?

Thanks in advance

Ignore the remote access status indicator briefly showing as green / remote access being working – that’s due to how the server verifies remote access is working (in short: it didn’t work but the status indicator seems to start assuming it’s working and only switches to a red status after finishing the connectivity check).

As for troubleshooting the specific issue…

Not sure how fast the other link gets you to these, but I read yesterday DD-WRT is a special case like pfsense.

DD-WRT uses dnsmasq, so it accepts the parameter
rebind-domain-ok=/plex.direct/ in the input field “Additional Dnsmasq Options”.

But that is just the exception from DNS rebinding protection, which has nothing to do with remote access.

Setting up a port forwarding (which does have to do with remote access) is straight forward. Nothing special there.

Yeah, I had the “rebind-domain-ok=/plex.direct/” in the Options window, but still not getting it to work. I’ve followed the steps I could find, but it’s like there’s one piece of the puzzle I’m missing.

As I mentioned: this only affects local clients. Remote access has nothing to do with it.

I still have not found a solution. Surely someone must have a similar setup?

I usually head to YT and find a recent video about setting up PF on DDWRT or a forum about it. I agree it should be very common but likely obscured by out of date guides. You’re welcome to screenshot your router settings and post them here.

Which settings would help to get a picture of this apart from Port Forwarding and Dnsmasq?

Thank you
