Roku New Experience Release Update

Also agree being a lifetime member. My whole family hates this new design and my kids can’t even navigate to find their shows anymore.

so many extra clicks and button presses to get to what you could do before by just going to the left sidebar. This top menu design sucks and is tedious! :poop:

You can roll the app back on Android. I had the same issue I went to version 10.26.0.2578. don’t forget to turn off auto updates for plex in the play store too

PLEASE give us a choice old VS new. This new layout is absolute GARBAGE! Don’t break something that is working just fine. Why does Plex keep doing ■■■■ to piss off their users?

@McWanke Here is where I am on this:

  1. Trying to force an interface meant for a mobile phone onto any non-touchscreen, non-handheld device will never work as well as planned. The reverse tends to work better.

  2. Expanding into streaming while retaining intuitive usability as a media server could, and likely would work in the company’s favor, as users will come for the media server and stay for the streaming. But, by sacrificing ease of usability for media server users, you will lose those users and will not gain them as streaming users.

  3. Those of us with lifetime memberships have already lost our money. Plex has already spent it. But, if we leave we do not bring in new revenue from friends, family, and co-workers. If we leave, we are also likely to tell anyone who will listen to stay away. This will result in a dwindling user base, and less revenue.

  4. Plex is not going to pick up as many streamers as they think. Seriously, the streaming world is oversaturated as it is. Between paid and ad-driven services, more and more people are cutting back on the services they subscribe to. Eventually they will likely be down to a handful each, and you will see streaming services collapsing left and right.

I am not saying that Plex should not move forward with including a streaming option. What I am saying is the Plex NEEDS to LISTEN to what the existing user base is saying, and to quickly and vocally acknowledge our concerns while showing to you are working hard to address those concerns by creating an “experience” that we all (Plex and users) find acceptable.

Please acknowledge that you have read this, and tell me if you/Plex feels I am wrong.

Can anyone direct me how to set Plex via Roku so it goes to a “selected library” versus continue watching? Just more clicks when all I want to do is watch my content and I have to fumble through clicks, click, click. Thanks

I have had the same issues with the iOS build since it was released that I have with the Roku (besides the awful UI).

I have the same issue, I reported it a few days ago.

I have a roku which I’m pretty sure is Android - I really hope someone posts how to upgrade it to the old version and turn off auto updates. I’d much rather have the old interface and never get an update again than the new interface.

Scanning a library - this option was not removed, it still exists. To access, when you are on the library name in the library picker, hit the ‘ * ‘ button on your remote and a right menu will show with the ‘ Scan ‘ option. Additionally, based on this feedback we are re-evaluating how we can make this option more visible.

Library Ordering - This is absolutely possible in the new experience. When you have a library selected, simply hit the ‘ * ‘ button on your remote and you will see an option to reorder that favorite library. This is another area that we are committed to bringing more visibility and access and have a team working on updating the design so that we can get this out in a future update.

The suggestion that you are surprised to find users confused by key features being hidden behind a hardware button that has never been used for anything in the entire release history of the app tells me, despite the mentions of “betas” and “testing”, that you never did any User Acceptance Testing for this overhaul. Evaluating how to make it “more visible”?? It is literally Invisible! But you just went ahead and pushed it out to us with no communication. (Not to even get into how little sense it makes that other libraries that have been shared with me are listed before my own libraries by default, or the fact that I already HAD set an order for my libraries that you just threw out.)

This company really seems intent in recent years on making us question why we keep giving them our money.

@McWanke I’ve never posted on the Plex forum before, but I came here specifically to voice my unequivocal and utter displeasure and disdain for the new UI update. I despise every single one of the changes made. You can count me among those who will cease using Plex on the client side, effective immediately, and will migrate my server to one of your competitors ASAP. Dismissed with extreme prejudice.

I had never heard of Jellyfin until today. I only came here to find out what happened with the UI update and have ended up installing Jellyfin in parallel. So far so good. I am hoping for a rollback, but won’t hold my breath.

We’re all upset over this change, but personal threats aren’t cool.

Software developers rarely, if ever, get to choose what they work on. Those things are typically dictated from the executives and marketing departments.

This is really sad. I ended up buying Apple TV units to replace all of the Roku units just to have a better UI. Now I am praying that this new UI does not get pushed to apple tv devices.

I am in the same boat… never had a reason to look outside of plex till now. I am crossing my fingers that PLEX will listen to its users and this was a bad mistake.

There already is a Beta with the new UI for tvOS.

I’d very much prefer just going back to the infinitely better and user friendly UI that we had.

That being said, my biggest issue is Playlists not having their own spot on the homepage or in navigation. Having to first select a library to then select Playlists is clunky and doesn’t even make sense when you have smart Playlists that’s combine media from movies and TV/multiple libraries :man_shrugging:

If there is going to be a UI overhaul, the very least it should do is improve and streamline things, not make them worse or more convoluted, or even remove features.

Here here!!!, I was going to post a similar response earlier, but you have said it much more efficiently and eloquently than I could.

All the attacks and threats do is take away from the real problem here of customers giving some very specific feedback on a change most dont like.

This is pure garbage! I liked the old version because it allowed me to customize the menu to just allow me to see my personal libraries and nothing more. Now, you are forcing to deal with your other garbage I’m not interested in. I have a Plex Pass so I should be able to customize this to get rid if all the other garbage. If i can’t it will certainly make me regret ever getting the Plex Pass. I used to love my Plex but now I hate everything about it.

I’m not sure there is anything else out there that will due what the old version did, but I guess its time to start looking. Thanks Plex for messing up something that didn’t need changed. Change can be good when it improves and makes scense. This change didnt make scense and messed everything up. Terrible practice!

You better disable the automatic app updates now then, because the beta Plex app on AppleTV is already using it.
