Make sure that, before you cancel your account, you see what data Plex has already collected so it can be properly deleted before account deletion - make sure you reference the UI update as well, since Plex seems to ignore forum posts by it’s users - https://preferences.plex.tv/form/access/
I don’t blame the Plex developers, they are probably being forced to implement this crap by the bean counters. However, there is a huge amount of feedback here in the forums that this was a totally stupid idea. Lets see:

Currently there are almost 1000 posts in these groups that unanimously declare this is a horrible update. This is from many Plex Pass users. You need to honor your users and listen to their input. Throw this crap away and get back to providing an interface that your customers appreciate and enjoy.
“What did you do to Plex?!?!”
“I swear… It wasn’t me!… I tried to stop it!!!”
… a conversation I’ve had no less than 10 times.
Look guys…. my users (20 of them, not yours) bought Rokus on my recommendation specifically for Plex because it’s an easy and cheap way for them to watch my stuff. You get the side benefit of them poking around and finding your stuff. That’s fair. But please, listen to ME because I brought them here. If I leave… they’re all coming with me.
I was going to say the same thing but appreciate you doing it for me. I don’t know why this was even considered. Who stood up at a meeting and said, what we are really missing is a complete redesign with a top menu? Who said yes, lets go with that. Of all the great work Plex has done since I bought the lifetime pass, this is the one time I feel I need to stand up and complain about how this update is the worst experience I’ve had with them.
I guess this is Plex’s attempt to streamline and look the same as other media apps with the top bar and multiple sub categories, It is NOT an improvement. Even if future updates fix it from running slow, the crash issues, the jumping back to the top while browsing movies or shows and starting your search over…as well as other issues others have mentioned, it’s not PLEX. Now it’s a cookie cutter UI with more clicks needed to get to where you want to go that everyone uses. The original side categories was a much cleaner and intuitive UI in my opinion. Yes, my opinion, everyone has their own and some may like this look, but it doesn’t appear that many do after reading the feedback so far. Also reading the replies so far It doesn’t appear that Plex will be going back to their original look and feel. Instead they will spend lots of time trying to fix the issues with their new cookie cutter design that no one really asked for. I will ask for one request for many of us that love our Plex…. Give us the option to have our original classic UI PLEX, Pretty Please…. With sugar on top.
Thanks from a Plex Lover……
You guys don’t seem to appreciate the level of disdain Plex users have for the new format.
Updates won’t change the fact that it is horse ■■■■.
Roll it back. Get rid of the people who thought this was ever a good idea in the first place.
I have two servers and multiple libraries, around 11. Being able to quickly see what’s happening with my servers and libraries is critical. The new UI buries my “favorite” libraries under two menus and to get all my libraries requires a third. They should always be visible on all screens, like they used to be and like the web ui currently has. (Guess I’m not going to be updating my server anytime soon to avoid this abomination of a UI.)
I also no longer get to see the activity of what’s been newly added to either server/library like the home page used to show.
This is not usable.
My biggest issue is lack of customization and the vertical left side bar for the libraries.
I lived having my favorites for each tv set so my kids would turn it on and see only their content. Now, it’s tied to my email so all my tvs show the same homepage. My kids turn the TV on and see my libraries which are wholly inappropriate for them.
I hate it. And it so hard to dig through the libraries and menus to find what I want. It’s so clumsy and cluttered.
Keep in mind that all of this frustration, anger, and disappointment is after updateing ONLY the Roku app. Just imagine the blow-up once all streaming devices get updated. Unfortunately, I would not be surprised if Plex doesn’t survive this one unless they do a very quick about-face. And also remember that for every vocal user, there are 10-20 silent ones who feel the same way.
plex is absolutely dead if they roll this out everywhere. This will end up in textbooks along with the UI design that killed the xbox.
If they don’t roll back, I will definitely be leaving Plex after many years as a dedicated user.
The new format is unusable for my family.
Nice to see how you listen to your customers. Rolls eyes This UI just makes it take longer to get to where I want to go.
I believe Roku has one of, if not the largest user base. The last time there was a major backlash it had a few minor releases on Xbox and such; it reached peak when they hit the Roku rollout.
I’m not sure if any of the devs from that monstrosity are still on the team. If they are, they have super short memories. They tried horizontal nav back then and it was a huge fail.
I assume they see what Netflix and other streaming platforms are leaning into, but they’re forgetting a major factor. Those companies deliver their own material. They can predict and curate the experience because it’s static across the board.
Every server owner here does things differently. We therefore thrive on customization. One might have two libraries. Another, may have up to 15. There’s no one way to jam that into a single interface. Kindof makes the case for having as long of a list as possible… and nobody on Earth lists things horizontally.
Never forget…
We should also note that Netflix, Disney, HBO, and Amazon all have very large UI/UX teams and designers. Far more than plex. No shade to plex, it’s just a fact. So plex trying to keep up with the Jones’s is just laughable and very clearly is hurting their customers, their credibility, and their bank account.
Is the current Roku UI the same experience that will come to Android TV?
Unfortunately, yes. It’s a unified experience across all platforms.
That is what they said before – I am hoping things have changed.
This is probably a useless and crazy comparison… but does anyone use or even remember Myspace? They just one day decided to blowup their social media site to make it better and more appealing to the masses. That didn’t really work out well…. They just immediately lost the social media war to Facebook by doing unnecessary changes and eventually became a mediocre music site that has a small following.
Per inquiry… Is Myspace still popular?
New Myspace is not nearly as popular as old Myspace; the original MySpace was the world’s biggest social media site in the mid-2000s, with over 300 million users at its peak, while today’s version is a niche platform with only millions of monthly visitors focused primarily on music and entertainment. The platform’s popularity declined as Facebook emerged and MySpace struggled to adapt, leading to a significant loss of users and a shift in its core focus.
I’m dating myself but I don’t care for Facebook either…. I like Plex because it was different from all the other media servers. At-least give Plex users the option to use the “better classic” version if we so desire or it may just go the way of the classic Myspace which would be sad.
I bought the Lifetime Pass before they introduced Watch Together, but having depended on it for the last several years to stay connected with my partner, I can’t go back. The UI is horrible enough (horizontal menus are horrid), but removing Watch Together removes the only reason I continue using Plex. All that streaming crap is in the way, and I don’t want ads forced down my throat, so I may as well switch to Jellyfin now. Hopefully they’ll put some work in getting Sync Play to work reliably now that a lot of people will be switching. I wish I had the monthly pass just so I could cancel it.
I can’t even browse my library on Roku now because it crashes every time. Reverse or fix this garbage update NOW!!! Plex lifetime license, treat your customers as actual customers not beta testers for your half-baked releases.
