Roku New Experience Release Update

The Library settings need to be per client not shared across devices. i.e. I have one roku that I typically watch tv shows on and one that I typically only watch movies. I like to have the order on the home screen different on each of those devices. That was possible on the old client does not seem to be possible on the current one.

If I understand correctly, one or more of following will determine order on Home screen.

Please Read @FordGuy61 reply below for Instructions

Settings > Experience > Default Library View

Also:

  1. From Home, move to Libraries tab, to see list of libraries.
  2. Highlight the library to be reordered.
  3. Press * button on remote
  4. Pulls up option to browse, reorder, remove from favorites, and rescan.

My library order is Movies then TV.

On Home screen, the order is:

  • Continue Watching
  • Recently added Movies
  • Recently added TV

Let me know if I’m misunderstanding.

Yes, that works BUT, you must do it for each library. It is very tedious if you have a lot of libraries. I actually did this a few days ago but when Plex released a new update, I lost all my favorite settings and consequently all the reordering. It also set the default view back to recommended. Hopefully the next update won’t do that.

Yes.

Have not noticed that, but I don’t use my Roku stick that much. I’ll look for that when next update drops (mine has not updated to 8.6.6 yet)..

I’m a developer, IT engineer, and I have a Linux distribution. I know versioning systems exist. You could have rolled back the update easily by now. I also know that failing to listen to your community/users will result in the DEATH of your platform! I’ve seen it for years with Linux distributions. If you tell your community/users that they have no choice but to accept what they don’t want or need, they will go elsewhere!

PLEX is facing that moment RIGHT NOW.

I’m a lifetime Plex member, and I’m already simultaneously evaluating several media server platforms. The ā€œNew experienceā€ is a BAD EXPERIENCE! It’s virtually unusable! I guarantee If this is not resolved by the time I complete my evaluation process, I WILL move to a new platform and take all of my users, friends, and family with me!

Let me be clear: I have influence in Linux circles. I will tell people don’t walk… RUN from this platform that doesn’t listen to or respect their users.

I suspect there are more than a few in this community who are similar.

This… Having different versions show on the posters like it was before. Way easier and less clutter.

I want to point out something to PLEX employees:

This thread has 17,500+ views in just a few days. Also, that’s just HERE. It doesn’t include Reddit and other social platforms! That means that regardless of what PLEX has to say about it, or how many comments there are in this thread, people are researching this problem with earnest! I doubt they came to read this thread because they were satisfied with the ā€œnew experienceā€. Everywhere I have looked, people are frustrated and pissed! Many are saying it’s the last straw in a long line of PLEX pushing content features on people that just want to run a good media server in their homes!

Remember who your REAL customers are, or lose them FOREVER!

Can we get a toggleable option to have Playlists on the same hierarchy level as libraries like before? Maybe just an shortcut running along the top next to Home | Libraries | Live TV | etc?

The one nice feature of playlists on Plex is that they can contain cross library content, so making you dig into one in particular just to access a particular list is inconvenient. Especially if you have playlists that have items that are only in a hidden library. These would be especially nice to be able to access at the top-level like before.

And that 17,500+ views is just HERE.

Start factoring in other platforms that are more common than coming here and that number jumps by magnitudes. A single thread that I posted on Reddit, with a small targeted focus of naming conventions for movie versioning, that are compatible with both Plex and Jellyfin has over 5,600 views. 5,600 for a very niche need when migrating off Plex and on to Jellyfin.

You can easily find numerous threads on all the other socials with thousands of users screaming about this - and they would just be the Roku users that are seeing it first. But we all know that when Plex fixes the bugs of the new UI on Roku they’ll roll it to GoogleTV and all the other platforms. So imagine the outrage now and multiple it by … 10? other platforms?

I have a VERY large media library (244 TB). Look at how clean this is! I have 3 lines on my home page, and everything else is kept neatly organized on the left. I can even decide what shows up on my home or not, and what shows up on the left (thanks to ā€œpinningā€)! I cannot make the new interface anywhere close to as clean and/or usable as this!

Can anyone tell me how to make nearly a million songs, tens of thousands of movies & TV shows work this cleanly or have my homepage have ONLY 3 three lines on it???

I don’t want PLEX to curate my content or tell me what I should watch or stream from other services. I just want MY stuff ONLY!

I used to love my PLEX system.
Now I HATE my PLEX system.
You have scrambled nearly every page and made it unusable.
It was FINE before - it’s now CRAP.
This is NOT progress.
If you ruin the web interface I will be looking for alternatives - this is unforgivably bad.
You really need to listen and provide a rollback option.
There will be a mass exodus otherwise and it will have been entirely self inflicted.

If you count the other discussion threads just here in Plex Forums, the read total is 26.5k.

PLEX gets FORCED updates on mobile devices and ROKU devices.

I will NEVER allow this to come to my Linux PLEX server running the web interface!

I’m actually considering going back to an old ROKU Ultra with the old version of PLEX installed, and blocking the ROKU update ports on my router.

I know on Android, it’s relatively easy to block or roll-back updates, and even side-load a previous app apk file. Does anybody know if manually rolling back is possible on Roku? I haven’t even been able to find a way or even a historical repository of Plex versions for Roku.

Plex was supposed to have logos be available to change on server side but that has been pushed now. I’ve posted about it elsewhere and all they could say is they will let developers know. No timeline or anything.

Would be great if we could go back to the old posters or just remove the logos and have text instead. At least it would be consistent instead of the mess it is right now.

@McWanke any update on logos being able to be customized?

I’m a 20 year engineer and I have trouble navigating this app… how are my elderly parents supposed to figure this out? The old layout was simple and this new cross bar with more options on the side is just confusing.

Yeah, I found out that my wife had found her way to these forums while trying to work out what had happened to our Roku clients and why she couldn’t get them to work properly. She was amazed at how many people seemed to be (justifiably) up in arms about it and how little response there had been from Plex.

Collections with multiple editions, editions are not shown while browsing, only when accessing the file in question. Five versions of Blade Runner, many films with theatrical and directors cuts, all look the same until entering their individual details.

This applies to the standard release and the preview. Both still have massive delays loading metadata and lockups on both Ultra and Express 4k.
