Don’t know if it’s intended, but pressing back from within a season drops you straight back into the library, rather than up a level to pick a different season. Very irritating, yet another change which makes navigation more awkward. Seriously, who green lit this crap?
@McWanke
Think of all the bugs in LiveTV like time shifting that have existed since the first release that COULD have been addressed instead of this abomination of a UI that ADDED MORE BUGS.
Also, I’ve heard it said part of the push is to “standardize” the UI across clients. Well I have AppleTV, GoogleTV, PC, and ROKU and the ONLY device where I see these convoluted changes is PLEX Preview on the ROKU.
And for YEARS I haven’t been able to rescan tuners without first deleting all my tuners and re-adding them. I have 2 quad PCI cards and THAT IS A LOT OF EFFORT to pick up changes that occur frequently in a large DMA like DFW, TX.
This ALL fits the pattern y’all have always followed, ignore the users and deny there’s a problem.
SAD, SAD, SAD - I just steered another group of users to a 4 tuner GEN4 Tablo as for THEM, it met their needs for BASIC LiveTV with DVR that JUST WORKED. We’ll find them another choice for music/pictures/… moving forward. Heck, it looks like y’all are abandoning much of that as well.
One last thought. Y’all MIGHT get more voluntary contributions if people believed you listened to your users but after years of neglect it’s probably too late. I know I can personally take credit for steering dozens of people away from making the PLEX mistake I made. BTW - I too have move to Tablo for BASIC LiveTV. I still maintain my PLEX because of sunk cost and I do like SOME things but the pain to maintain them as mainstream in my household is too great. Once my hardware/infrastructure devoted to PLEX requires a substantial re-investment, PLEX goes.
“Let’s get the big question out of the way - at this time we aren’t planning on rolling back this update.” Translation: We already took a buttload of advertisers money to cram this garbage down your throat so we can’t rollback now!
The last few updates have been marching this app to ruin. The latest is absolute trash. Plex gained a following with a certain formula and tanking that formula in favor of a payout is idiotic. The following Plex gained can just as easily migrate to a competitor (Jellyfin?) and then your advertisers money will dry up anyway. FIX THIS CRAP!
Why can’t a simple option to move back to the better UI be added?
“at this time we aren’t planning on rolling back this update.”
How about at THIS time, now that Plex has more than sufficient user feedback? We’re waiting for a real update from the Plex team on if they are 100% committed to keeping the downgraded interface, or if they’ll commit to the user base and revert to the working interface.
Personally, I’ve already staged my fleet to be migrated to Jellyfin except for a few remote clients in preparation that Plex decides to keep the “new” interface. Waiting to see for maybe another week, testing so far has been more user friendly and takes LESS clicking around to get to the same media.
The new app is developed from scratch. The old UI is a totally different app.
The playlists used to be a separate entry, now you’re saying that it’s in each library? That’s very unintuitive.
Also, getting rid of the vertical menu on the left was a huge mistake for a TV interface with a remote control. Instead of being able to see my list, now I must scroll across, click, then scroll across (and I can’t see all of my options because there’s not enough screen width) looking for what I want.
Roll back to the old version until you can give us something that is ACTUALLY BETTER!
The “New” Plex is absolutely horrid, slow and useless now. I really hate the extra clicks to get to where you want to go and bad organization of the app now, but try teaching an 94 year old mother this new stupid UI.
Add a vote for a roll back of the UI, it probably won’t matter to the higher ups, but might as well give Plex more numbers on the crappy new design to count. I’m looking into Emby and Jellyfin now.
Issue the old version as “PlexClassic”, put a notice in the new version to let users know that a classic experience version exists and can be loaded. Wait a month, then look at who is using the new version versus the old one. If you see a mass exodus from the new version, you’ll know you need to roll back and work on incremental improvements instead of giving users drastic changes that they don’t want.
Plus, if you see that most use the new one, at least that way you can let everyone know you’ve done due diligence on user satisfaction.
Dear McWanke, Plex Employee
https://forums.plex.tv/u/mcwanke/ ;
We uploaded our logs and everything but never heard back…. The 2 issues still exist.
- the only place my old server Mike HP14 shows up is in the roku app and the android app (which has the same new appearance as the roku app) It is no where on my laptop/servers. Those look like they always have (please don’t change the server layout - it works so well!)
- on the new roku app HP 14 will also NOT come off the libraries horizontal favorites bar. so I have to use the 3 dots and scroll down to see my tv, movies, etc from my new server. (on the phone app it did at least allow me to “unfavorite” them, so I can live with that. At least I can see my new stuff first now on the android) If you can do at least that for me on the roku, I’ll be content. TY - Mike
I wish that worked in my case, but the old server libraries just pop right back onto the favorites horizontal bar. I have deleted my old server everywhere there is an instance, to no avail
I have too - i have tried numerous “fixes” for over 9 days to no avail… I have Jellyfin set up and running side by side and I hate to say it as a member since 2012 and having a few subscribers to my server… but I am getting more and more used to the Jellyfin app every day. Like you, I am just waiting for the ability to revert back to the old PLEX ui, but that day needs to come very soon.
I had already decided that my Roku tv had to go for doing this very thing with no warning and no options. Now Plex has to go. Sorry, but there are other, more user friendly options available. (not sorry)
i have never posted and probably never will again. they forced us to buy a plex pass then drop this F*cking terrible update on us. is there any hope for getting my money back? can’t wait to uninstall the app and move back to emby.
The browse view having such small text under the thumbnail compared to the prior list view (plus having to have to wait for it to scroll to read something more than about 12 characters long) It’s just made navigating media significantly harder. I hope they bring back the list view open
Still not a valid excuse for not rolling back this horrible “new” UI. Bad is bad no matter how they try to justify it. The old was functional and intuitive. The new is extremely clunky and one of the most unintuitive UIs I have ever used. I am about to shut my Plex down and that’s a lot of users.
I stay out out the forums and generally just grumble to myself when changes are made. But this update is making put my 2¢ in the ever growing list of complaints.
I only have two other people that I share my Plex server content with, an elderly parent with early on-set dementia and an autistic brother. Neither one had any issues navigating the previous version of the Roku app. They are both completely lost now. My brother pointed out that the Libraries are lists and list go up and down, not across. Even though he knows this, he can no longer use the app.
I guess it’s time to dig out the old WD TV media player and get it working again since Plex is abandoning/ignoring their user base.
Please keep the older people in mind when make unneeded changes\updates. I had spent the last few hours trying to figure out this new UI (very confusing) update and then trying to explain to my parents who are in the 80’s how to navigate to our personal library. This new UI is horrible and driving my parents and I mad, need the classic UI back as an option. They don’t need to see anything plex has to offer, they just want their old shows that I have put together for them.
I have an Apple TV with plex and didn’t know about this update till my parents started complaining that all their shows were gone, what a disaster.
DO NOT change the Apple TV app to this new look, I will rage, leave alone it’s fine.
Welp, this addresses none of the terrible parts of the new update. Guess I’m finding something else.
But the classic version makes them less money, you see…
