I’m in the same boat with my parents and in-laws. Three people all 75+ years old, who will not know what to do with this. ![]()
I don’t mind the interface design but there’s just so many breaking bugs. Like not even being able to pause or fast forward or rewind? These are basic freaking things for a video player. Is there a way to roll the app back while they sort this mess out?
Edit: completely reinstalling the app has restored playback capabilities at least!
Me, too. In fact, NONE of my libraries are available and there is no “more" to modify shown libraries.
WHAT HAPPENED?! Its ben 5 decades (minutes) and I’m in severe withdrawal!
It worked perfectly last PM at 1000 CST (USA). Whatever updated trashed the app, it had better not have wiped 37tb of content!
Roku Plex app updated and it’s broken. Navigate to Libraries and I get an error that my Plex server is unavailable. If I go to the right to the 3 dots and manually chose a library I can only see recently watched and they play. No way to navigate to my library or search for anything. Unusable!
Well you managed to screw up the ios apps a few months ago and have ignored all of my posts about that…. now the Roku app is toast. Glad I invested in a lifetime pass. PLEASE ROLL IT BACK! It’sobvious you have people there that have no idea how to thoroughly test something before rolling it out.
It was apparently designed by millennials; Write a major update, check for syntax errors, Roll it out. Let the users test it. BTW, give me a raise since I did (well, forced people with coding ability to do it) a 24hr update cycle, and I demand a 6 hour work week.
I swear, I’m at the point I’m cutting all cords, including utilities, and going back to candles and tidly-wink.
Thank you. I’m having a lot of the same issues I was (and still am) having in the iOS client.
PLEX REVERT TO VERTICAL APP. I can’t believe I paid to have my Plex app on Roku ruined by this new interface. You had things so finely tuned and you blew it up! No warning and no choice to not load the new app or revert, It’s slow. My remote freezes. But the long term issue the interface is TERRIBLE. I see things on my screen I dont want to and have trouble accessing the things I most use. I waste time looking for where things are and often time they are .
Plex please respond to your users about this horrible interface.!Why did you so this?
work around on this almost unusable update to get it so remote will work, you have to start it on a different device for a few min, than when it gets on your resume watching section, when you select it now on roku teh remote will work as it normally did and you can move around the screen and play the video..but yeah selecting from library (once you figure out the cumbersome way you have to get to them now) and scroll down painstakingly slow and select the tv show the remote will full unregister it from the new ui and you cant move around. Also yeah the search function is unusable as you cant get the remote function to go to where you can type in the search section….and no this is just not liking change rant this is a this UI is broken on Roku tv’s
One things folks can try is to use the Plex Preview Channel version
The UI is the same (whether you like it or hate it) as the one just pushed on the main channel - however it does not have all the bugs of the main version and so it is at least “usable”
Yep they keep changing everything.
they have become GREEDY BASTARDS.
I still have the original paperwork from PLEX and all the promises when I bought the lifetime subscription right after they first started.
So much for us lifetime subscription, its become pretty much worthless…
A beta build shouldn’t be a fix. This is a huge fumble on someone’s part.
The UI by its very nature is unusable. It simply needs to go.
The app freezes if I select a season, the only thing I can do is back out of the season.
I agree (see Roku Preview has now been updated to the new experience (Plex would love to hear from us) - #15 by mrig from May)
However at the moment it not just unusable by its very nature it is just soo buggy that it is literally unsable beyond being able to play a couple of episodes that sit in the recently added and the only way I get to watch TV/Movies on Roku is either airplay casting or using the preview (with bad UI but at least with no critical bugs)
P.S. one acknowledgement I want to give is that at least we did get back the Music libraries that in May had been completely removed [though they have removed the lyrics functions - which had been broken for a while also on the previous UI]
With all the chatter surrounding this latest update, I don’t see anyone from Plex stepping in to address our concerns. It’s disheartening that Plex hasn’t even acknowledged the issues. Many of us are paying subscribers, yet Plex seems unwilling—or too afraid—to admit they made a mistake.
This rollout is by far the worst I’ve seen. I’ve experienced plenty of software updates over the years, but none as flawed as this one. At my company, any update goes through extensive testing before release. Sure, minor bugs slip through, but the problems we’re dealing with here are anything but minor.
Plex needs to do the right thing: either roll back to the previous version or scrap and rework this update entirely. This feels like the result of rushing software out the door just to meet a deadline, and we, the users, are paying the price.
They will not as the new Roku experience is part of the common base work and it is just one of the last UI to change. The same comments have been made when the mobile app was released, the Android app was released, the preview version for Roku was released, etc
They are committed to it whether anyone likes it or not
I don’t care about the UI, but they need to fix the ability to select media or search for it. I can’t even do those minor things.
I experience the same on the main app: the bugs are so many that it is impossible to use
What I have found is that the Plex Preview app (same interface as the once just pushed) does not have (at least for me) those issues and I am able to watch/listen to what I want (despite the inferior experience)
