Roku plex issues

Roku Model 4800X - Roku Ultra (Plus 5 other models that are also having bugs)

Live tv no longer works, I can view the guide but clicking on a channel just makes a beep sound.

To access the top menu bar, instead of hitting up… I guess we have to click the back button…

I spent an hour last night trying to access my complete movie library… Wasn’t able to figure it out. My kids can’t easily browse their shows…

We have 6 rokus, all of them are having odd UI bugs that makes plex nearly unusable.

It’s clear that the current plex team hates home media streaming… But like it or not, that is what plex is. You are not and will never be a netflix competitor. Every plex update in recent memory has been a significant downgrade to the service. It reminds me of when halo intentionally hired developers that hated halo…

So with that being said, I’ve notified all of my users - around 30 people in total that my plex server is going dark in 48 hours. Thats the amount of time I’m willing to keep the service running on my PC while I’m actively standing up an alternative service. If the UI is rolled back, and an apology is made I’ll keep it going. This is the biggest slap in the face to your long term customers… We host the content, we serve the content, we manage who can access our libraries… We don’t even want you to manage the login process at all but you insist on doing it. The decision making at plex is insane.

First I’m using Plex version 8.6.4.1057-11589ce23Plex on a Roku TLC TV. I went though a bunch of unnecessary steps and all I needed to do was a Hard Reset!!

some of which were
Updating everything! (was a waste of time) I reinstalled Plex on Roku but it wasn’t until I Power Cycled that the features started working. I had to literally unplug the TV from the wall for 30sec.

  1. Restart / Power cycle device- simply turning off the TV/Roku, disconnecting power for a minute, then powering it back on Fixes Everything. Won’t fix the horrible UI but, let me know if it works for you!

It started working for me for awhile last night, then today it’s back to freezing everywhere, or sometimes not being actually frozen but it just ignores all remote commands except the back button. It’s ridiculous.

OMG. I’ve seen my share of train wrecks in software development. But this moves to the all-time top train wreck I’ve had the unfortunate opportunity to experience. My Roku just updated last night. So, the nicest thing I can say is “Scrap that convoluted, non-sensical mess of a UI”. PLEASE!?! I can’t imagine how the concept even got out of the meeting room. If Plex isn’t embarrassed…welp, I’m embarrassed for them.

This thing is worthy of a CEO resignation.

This interface barely works. I can’t navigate to the top of the screen to choose my libraries. I can’t scroll through a show to check out cast members. The app just locks up when I’m navigating through a show’s episodes – all the arrow buttons just decide to stop working.

Not sure how a release this bad made it through any QC checks. Can we expect the app to be near unusable for a few more months?

Luckily the Plex app on the Fire Stick hasn’t changed. I disconnected my Roku and I’m exclusively using the Fire Stick now.

Until this UI gets rolled out there. I’ve been using the PS5 client but I know its a matter of time.

I’m having issues with 4k content on a 4k Roku streaming stick I have the same one but just had that one seems to run fine

remove app, reinstall, all working for me now, but didnt before a fresh install

just remove the app, reinstall, works like it should

Another issue is that libraries no longer have the Shuffle button, so when I’m in a library I want to play multiple music videos but without Shuffle only one will play then end. Fix this or put back the prior release!

Piling on. This update is absolute trash. Trying to watch a movie on my Roku. The only libraries it shows are my old media server. It doesn’t show the new server at all. Works fine on my computer, but not on Roku app. I’ve hard reset the Roku and restarted the server. Still the same issue.

I’ve been exclusively watching media on Plex for several years (and paid for the pass as well) and am going to jump ship after using this new interface for the first time tonight. Between the poor design choices of making everything harder to get to and the obvious, reproducible and basic functionality breaking bugs, I don’t think this is a software company I can support anymore.

In the off chance this gets completely reverted before I get used to jellyfin, maybe I’ll come back. Based on the other complaints in these forums, I’m not holding my breath.

Jellyfin’s going to have a record breaking download week!

I removed power to both TV and Roku and left it off for 10-20m. Connect it again and then did a restart of the roku from its menu.

After having done so I have also noticed that the bugs that made it impossible to use and forced me to rely on the preview version have disappeared (so far)

The usability concerns remain but at least I can browse my libraries, filter them and exit the app

Same here. Lifetime subscriptions these days are what cause companies to lose their minds hunting for revenue. I’ve been on plex from 2013 and use it all the time. Plex, stop trying to do money grab from live tv crap that nobody wants. Roku already has that and it’s dumb to put it inside Plex too. If the change is for revenue just change your pricing model to stay in the game. If you were just trying to keep your developers busy and make them fix what isn’t broken, that’s dumb. change your employment model.

Adding in the hope it will make the bug list.

Roku remote button presses intermittently fail. This is NOT a case of button presses randomly failing. When the problem occurs, it’s repeatable in whatever GUI context it occurs in.

Example: While watching a video, press down arrow to bring up the “scroll display.” Now left and right buttons don’t work. Use back button to exit. Exit the video. Left and right work. Restart the video and repeat. Problem remains.

Restarting the Roku resolves the problem for a while.

The whole point of PLEX was to access our own files via internet. It never was supposed to include pay per view or advertising. Now it wants to be Net Flix but doesn’t work on ROKU at all!

I can confirm other users findings in that turning my Roku TV off for a period of time and then turning it back on DID NOT help regain remote functions such as up, down, left, right, rewind, fast forward, play, etc, BUT, that PHYSICALLY UNPLUGGING my HiSense 55 Roku Smart TV for 30 minutes and then plugging it back in and turning it back on DID indeed fix the functionality of the remote’s control buttons and they now work in navigating the new interface!

Thank you to those who suggested physically unplugging our TV’s and/or Roku devices for x period of time and plugging them back in and then seeing if that fixes the remote navigation and play control button function issues with the latest interface update!

I do not like the new interface design/layout and would love an option to resume to the previous sidebar style layout and columnar oriented listings in that sidebar for my Libraries and Collections and showing their contents to the right in the larger viewing area, etc!

The new interface design is not well thought out and is not user friendly if you have broken your libraries down into multiple genre and media type libraries like I have which is around 30 of them making a limited row of library buttons across the top a royal pain in having to scroll horizontally through 30 or so of them to access ones library contents!
