Roku Preview has now been updated to the new experience (Plex would love to hear from us)

why am i now paying more per month for less features? i.e. no music, no photos?
Jellyfin is sounding better and better.

Jellyfin is free, so give it a try.
(With Plex Lifetime, I’m not paying more)

Anyone know where Plex gets the clear logos? I thought it was theMovieDB.org or theTVDB.com, but I uploaded some missing logos to both, did the “plex dance”, but Plex is not picking them up.

This thread has info: Where are the logos sourced?

TLDR: TMDB primarily but does look like sometimes it’s TVDB. Fanart.tv was mentioned but dunno if it’s being used or just had similar logos.

Also admins should have control to manage them “eventually” (it was one of the things that reps promised Admin control would be updated to manage before Experience went public but then the mobile apps were released and we’re all testing Experience clients using features without admin controls now so
:person_shrugging:). That topic thread has a script you can use to load your own too.

Yeah, I did read that thread before posting here (it’s where I read that Plex gets the logos from theMovieDB), but logos I uploaded to there are not being picked up by Plex. I did see the script mentioned there, but didn’t want to try it.

The social element you’re calling out (“be the first of your friends to watchlist list!”) should be linked to the Display activity from my friends on detail pages setting in https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources.

There is currently a bug in the Roku Preview where this setting isn’t being respected (the social element is displayed when the setting is disabled). This issue has already been filed. Thanks again for your continued feedback!

@Atomatth, Plex needs to fix the metadata in the Plex Live TV, it currently only shows the Episode#, Season is not displayed.

Is this something specific to the Roku Preview? Do you have an example you can share? Just want to make sure that I’m looking at the same thing you’re calling out.

An internal issue was filed when you initially called it out. Digging into what was missed. Thanks again for your feedback!

I have been using the Plex Preview for several weeks. Just yesterday, I noticed that when displaying episodes of recorded shows, the Delete button is no longer displayed. I happen to delete DVR episodes after watching them which is why I noticed it immediately. Has this been reported? Also I noticed that when selecting an episode, the transition to the next screen (to play the episode) will flash up the Delete button in the middle of the screen before display the episode screen to Play the episode. It happens so fast, no way to capture it.

Not to pick on you specifically Atomatth but nobody from Plex has been responding or acknowledging these different Roku Experience Preview topics for several weeks. So, as far as anybody on this side of the community relationship know, the effort put into these reports are regularly ignored or taken for granted. We don’t know that our efforts were seen and someone put it on an internal bug report.

These “help us out” topics are missing Plex’s side of the give and take when asking customers for product development help. We don’t get to feel like our contribution mattered or even appreciated while Plex gets its free QA work.

When @Atomatth or @ljunkie or @McWanke do interact you’re all pretty solid (in my view) - but because those interactions are so occasional and inconsistent it kinda highlights that lack of responses to all the other posts.

Particularly when Plex reps start off strong and then disappear again; kinda the equivalent of relationship getting a “I’ll do better this time!” and then two weeks later it’s right back to how it was again.

A little effort for small courtesies and honest interactions can go a long way. Plex has forum specific reps, maybe they can be engaged for some of these particular “help us out” topics. Or PMs or dedicated Project Coordinators can do it (common role for them). Even just having a Plex rep mark reports with a heart to indicate “got it, thanks!” would be an improvement.

Sorry it’s a bit off-topic and I’m sure you’re all doing as directed for your work priorities and such so I don’t mean anything personal by it, more an observation of Plex’s “customer” facing side overall. It’s just that I have seen the positive results of making even small adjustments so customer\client\service interactions are consistent and then everyone can have reliable expectations and a better experience.

I want Plex to succeed as a respectable brand and product for customers because as a customer I invested a lot into my setup over the years. I don’t care about Plex’s profits beyond being able to sustain itself, so it’s definitely a selfish motivation to some degree.

Edit:
I feel “seen”.

It works! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, originally it only showed the Episode #. I saw the update that indicated that the Metadata was fixed (added Date, TV Ratings, etc), but missed the Season. I noted that here, and also on Reddit (twice)

I was somewhat surprised that I didn’t get a response on Reddit.

I’m not seeing it reported internally yet when I did a quick search but I will file. It looks like the Delete action for episodes is in a bit of a odd spot. You CAN still delete episodes but you’ll need to get to the episode in the Browse view and not in the Show/Season detail page :person_shrugging: . I also noticed the flashing Delete action when loading an episode. Very weird. I’ll make sure to capture all of this. Thanks for reporting!

Also, there is a DVR setting to automatically delete watched episodes after some time when you’re setting up a continuous recording (All Episodes). Maybe save your thumbs from a couple extra presses .

Though this might not be the best option for everyone’s use case. Just thought I’d share just in case.

@Tony_T After some digging, the release note calling out the fix on Roku is accurate’ish. The problem is further upstream (not specific to Roku). Getting this part filed now. Thanks again for reporting.

@Insomnic_1 I hear you but the short answer is, time is a scarce resource. The long answer would take too much time . Please keep providing feedback. We are looking at it.

Time isn’t so much scarce - it’s essentially a standard resource with known quantity - but is unrecoverable; there’s no making it up, once it’s gone it’s gone. So how people choose where and how to use their time makes a big impression.

Customers volunteering their time and resources for Plex should get a recognized exchange from Plex. It doesn’t have to be significant, just enough to acknowledge it. This is where some consistency would help avoid the perception of being ignored or taken for granted.

I realize Plex employees have their own responsibilities for tasks and role and work environment - your lively hood is more significant than our volunteer time. But there are reps whose job is community management and engagement so maybe just something to pass along to them, particularly for these types of topics. I think that even just some small gestures would help a lot; if someone’s actually reading a post, how much time is it to click the heart button while you’re already there?

Or maybe just a bit more consistent cadence for check-ins from reps when they do get some time.

Just suggestions is all. I don’t like saying “that’s not working” without providing at least some ideas to maybe rectify it. Poking holes in stuff, or pointing out something going sideways, without options is just bitching
 not helping.

Appreciate the response and consideration.

It used to be that these automatic episode delete functions were tied to the show, and not to the library. I kept DVR recordings in an entirely separate library than my pristine TV shows. Comskip/commercial removal is cool and all, but the cuts aren’t as good as I’d like for a permanent file.

Long story short, I had shows set for DVR that also existed in my primary TV Library. If I used that auto delete function, it would start removing episodes from my TV Library as well as the DVR Library.

If this still holds true, it might be why users don’t use this functionality in the way it was intended.

I don’t know the answer. That area was still getting some design work fairly recently, so there will most likely be some additional changes here before full release. There is nothing nefarious going on here.

Joking when I said nefarious (), but how such a glaring mistake has not been fixed when reported repeatedly here and on Reddit is a bit surprising as it is a simple fix with absolutely no reason not to make it, and does nothing but support the feeling that what users say is of no importance to Plex.

update to the Plex preview channel - 8.3.8

FIXES:

  • Add confirmation when marking PMS shows/seasons as watched/unwatched.
  • Fix back doing nothing from reviews screen tabs.
  • Fix first back doing nothing on some screens.
  • Fix possible crash on failed screen load/refresh.
  • Fix possible focus loss when opening live TV from outside of the guide.

If movie tailers are enabled to preplay, they’re also playing when resuming a movie in progress. Probably shouldnt do that?

Checked
 old app no do that.
