Scanning TV libray finds episodes, but removes others

Server Version#: 4.108.0

Okay, so i’m having a weird issue. Using the official plex docker image on Unraid. Added a show called Transformers - War For Cybertron Trilogy. All episodes are named according to proper naming schemes. Naming is being handled by Sonarr, Episodes are named as such: Transformers - War For Cybertron Trilogy - S01E01 - Episode 1 WEBDL-1080p Proper. “Episode 1” is actually the name of the first episode. This problem also persists if I remove the “Episode X” from the filenames
The show has 3 seasons with 6 episodes each. When I add the show to the show directory with all my other shows plex shows 6 episodes in season 1, 6 episodes in season 2, but only one episode in season 3. If I tell it to scan the library it will remove the last 5 episodes from season one, leaving the first episode there, and then find the missing 5 episodes from season 3. If I scan again this happens again, just in reverse, it finds the episodes it lost from season 1 and removes the ones from season 3.

I have tried removing the files from the directory, cleaning bundles and emptying trash, then readding the show, and same problem.

I have tried rolling plex back to a version from 6 months ago and doing the same, with the same issue.

I have tried to fix match, but Plex is correctly matching the show.

Any thoughts would be really helpful, I am at my wits end trying to figure this out. This is my first time posting about an issue here, so please be patient and let me know if you need any kind of logs or anything. Thanks.

P.S. it has been doing the same issue with Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, but instead just removes or adds all of season 4 when I do scans.

What is your folder structure like?

\Data\media\TV Shows\“tv show name”\season\episodes

The unraid share is Data

I also have Movies, and Music folders in the \media folder, but the TV show library only sees the \TV Shows folder.

Also, I have like 50 other shows that are all working properly, its just these two that are misbehaving.

here are the Media Scanner Logs that show the behavior im talking about

It shows that its finding “auxiliary files” for season one “Siege”. what does that mean? its not doing it when it finds the season 3 stuff in the log. it says it finds 0 for that season…

Does it make any difference if you change the episode order?

Click the pencil on the show poster and switch the show order to TVDB

EPISODE ORDERING

The TVDB has one show with 3 seasons

The TMDB has 3 different shows all listed separately

No change. same behavior. I am open to changing them to all be a different show, but sonarr doesn’t see them as 3 shows, it wants them as one, which is why I wanted to have them be one show.

Is your library pointing to this folder? TV Shows?

I tried the show using the TVDB order and it works for me

Yes, its pointed towards the TV Shows folder. Are you on a docker image? Thats interesting that its working for you… What are your episodes named exactly?

Are you using the Plex TV Server agent or TVDB in the library settings?

This server is on Windows, no docker

Im having the same behavior even with it set to TVDB and the episodes named the same as yours… what should i do next?

Fresh server install?

After you changed it to the TVDB show order did you manually refresh the metadata? Sometimes it doesn’t scan automatically

You may have to Plex dance ← click

If you still get nothing, I would create a temp tv library and put it in that to see if it works there. I’ve seen libraries become corrupted before

Lastly, I would try a manual scan and then upload your logs here afterwards

Enable debug only not verbose and download the zip from the troubleshooting section in the sever settings

I wouldn’t consider nuking the server until you have a better explanation as to what’s happening

So i booted a test server on my desktop and it works just fine with my naming and such from sonarr, with default show order… not tvdb, sooo i dont know if that is going to fix it on my server.

for the log, what do I need to do to get the issue to show up in the log? do the whole thing of adding it and watching it break and then download the debug log?

Plex Media Server Logs_2023-07-01_22-13-31.zip (2.6 MB)

I think this is my debug log. I have enabled the debug thing after clearing trash and doing the dance stuff, then after enabling debug, I readded the show, scanned, refreshed metadata, and same issue.

Its so weird to me that this works just fine on a windows server but for some reason is breaking on a unraid docker image…

I also have no idea how to read these logs so imma need some help

I don’t read logs either but I can check for database corruption and I’m not seeing any.

Unfortunately you’re going to have to wait for an employee or Ninja who can take a closer look

Okay, do I need to do anything to make that happen? or do they trawl the forums normally?

I do also have a friend who has been seeing similar behavior, but other then knowing that they have seen the problem, I don’t know anything else about what’s been happening with them and their issues.

Sometimes very similar symptoms can have totally unrelated causes for stuff like this.

I can’t say when but someone will come by. If you know of an employee who can help you or has, you can always put the “@” symbol in front of their name and that notifies them

For some reason manually adding them does NOT fix the problem… adding them again from Sonarr does… idk why but sure. problem solved.
