Secure connection not working after last update

@End

Reset. Restart the server.

Hey, I seem to be having the same issue as above. Wiped everything clear and restarted and I’m still having issues

@sprinklings

Please restart Plex,
Let it run for a minute,
Download the logs ZIP and attach please.

Thanks.

Hey sorry about the delay,

I cannot connect securely through the app.plex.tv and none of my friends can see my files remotely, nor can I see them when connected to no wifi on my phone.

The only 2 ways I can connect to the server is on my phone (wifi) and directly entering the 192.168.1.2:32400 into my browser on my pc.

Logs attached.

your logs show Double NAT (router behind a router).

Notice the WAN address here as it connects to Plex.tv

Is there any way I can fix this issue.

My current set up has a modem from my cable company which is incapable of being put into bridge mode. This modem broadcasts a wifi although I have nothing connected to it aside from the router by ethernet.

I have my router plugged into the modem and every device on the network (including the server, as well as everything I am trying to connect with) is connected to the router. (same subnet 192.168.1.1)

I know the 192.168.0.1 is the modems subnet but I am not sure how to make this work on my network.

Thanks

The router is a Meshforce M7.

Hello,

I have updated my server to latest version and now I have insecure connection error and cannot access my server via Web.

I don’t see Plex Media Server/Cache/certificate.crt either.

Edit:
Sorry I forgot to add my logs. Here they are Plex Media Server Logs_2021-02-19_19-13-09.zip (4.5 MB)

Hi,

I’m having trouble with insecure connections for anything outside of home network. I have remote access set up, though it often says it is not working (even when people are accessing it remotely). I have port forwarding setup via 32400.

This has started happening in the last few days. I’ve tried redoing the port forwarding, as well as updating the server and the client.

I’ve attached my logs.

Hello,
I’m wondering if I have the same certificate issue. I no longer have remote access after I updated my server and now I have the problem where I enable remote access and it only stays connected for about 5-10 seconds. I have tried a completely clean install as well as changing my account password to reset the token and nothing seems to help. I’m running the server on Ubuntu 18.04 and it’s always been rock solid. My server logs are attached.

Hello ChuckPa,

I have an issue with the server not reachable by my TV’s within my own Network (it is by mobile devices). I’ve already put this in an other Forum threat, where the issue cannot be resolved up to now.

It probably has nothing to do with my server reachabillity, but one thing which is also not correct in my PMS is security. I’m unable to get a secure connection, whatever settings I try. I read in this threat you helped some people by resetting their certificates. Can you please do that for me as well? Maybe secure connection can be restored that way. Thanks in advance.

In the picture below you see there is no green lock next to my server (JackNAS).

Grtz Patrick

@richsbikeparts_yahoo_com

I’ve reset your certificate. Please restart the server

@Kuiperplex

On our home LAN, HTTPS (secure) isn’t really a hard requirement.

I say this because:

  1. You have a firewall in the modem-router to block inbounds
  2. RFC-1918 traffic (192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x-172.31.x.x, and 10.x.x.x networks) never leave the house. They are not routable on the open internet.
  3. Your data from server → TV is secure either by Wired connection or encrypted WiFi (the SSID & Password form the encryption key).

Basic HTTPS from your Plex/web browser to your server , even if you didn’t open it https, it still should flip over to secure.

I would like to see what’s happening with your machine.

Please do the following so we can walk through the steps

  1. Settings - Server - General
  2. Verify DEBUG logging on, VERBOSE logging off, SAVE if you change anything
  3. Restart PMS
  4. Let it sit idle for 2 minutes while it restarts
  5. Now open it via the http://ip.addr.of.PMS:32400/web
  6. Let the browser open up
  7. Download the logs ZIP
  8. Attach it here and I will walk through what it’s doing.

Morning ChuckPa,

Although I don’t use remote connection, I asked the question since I’m trying to figure out why my televisions cannot connect to the PMS within my own Network. I get this message on the TV:

(don’t pay attention to the ip address, its already changed to 192.168.2.165)

The first sentence says: ā€œyour device requires secure connections, but there is something interfering with that.ā€. That’s why I was wondering not having the ā€œgreen lockā€ could have caused my issue, even if I don’t use remote connection.

FYI, I tried everything so far. Newest PMS software, All devices on my own Network, No VPN’s installed, secure connection set to Preferred", double checked all permissions in PMS, etc, etc. Nothing seems to solve the issue.

Thank you, you’re willing to look at my issue!

How is this network put together? Wired ? Wireless ? If wireless, what does speedtest report for throughput?

I ask because PMS cannot maintain a connection to the devices… they keep disconnecting.

In the above, 192.168.2.54 is the peer device which closed the connection.

Hi ChuckPa,

Thank you for resetting my certificate. Unfortunately, I restarted the server but had the same issue with connection failing after a few seconds. I then removed and reclaimed my server to see if that would help. I’ve tried the server on three different networks and had the same result, so I’m fairly certain it is not a router configuration problem. Is there any other fix you can recommend?

Different networks? are you hopping around different RFC-1918 subnets ??? Is your computer also on those same subnets as you try to reclaim it and config?

No. I had physically move the server to another location / network previously to determine if the router config had somehow changed but have since moved it back to the original location. I reclaimed the server through the browser on the server today and all configuration is done locally as well.

Morning,

This is how the network is put together:

ISP, then to 3 AirPorts:

From different AirPorts to devices, all wired, except to my mobile devices, that’s Wifi.

Wired connection speed:

Wireless connection speed:

PMS is installed on a DS218+, which has the latest DSM. Also PMS is the latest software update downloaded from Plex (PlexMediaServer-1.21.3.4046-3c1c83ba4-x86_64.spk).

To connect to the PMS I use my MacBook. Although I have some devices with static IP’s, the Televisions don’t have a static IP. Also my MacBook has no static IP, but currently the Macbook has 192.168.2.54 assigned to it. Also with the MacBook shut down I can’t get Plex to work on my TV’s.. My MacBook is running Big Sur 11.1.

Hope this helps in your investigation.
Grtz Patrick

Hello can you check if I need to resetting my certificate
Also got problems with connection outside house.

I’m having the same issue since the last update. Remote connect only stays connected for a few seconds before disconnecting. No one outside my home network can access my media. Can you try resetting my certificate?
