Server is unclaimed failure

Server Version#:1.19.2.2673
Player Version#:4.31.2

Updated from 1.18 version to 1.19 version and now it refuses to claim, and I cannot play anything unless I do.

I had it operating on my LAN behind an Untangle Firewall device. No port forwarding or bridging was necessary. After upgrading it’s requiring me to claim my server, but when I attempt to do so one of two things occurs, I either get a brief pop-up message saying that there were problems logging into plex, or it gives me the spinny window and then goes back to “claim server” with zero feedback.

I then attempted to remove the firewall from the equation entirely by temporarily moving the server and my computer outside the firewall. However; even after getting both on the same subnet as the router and outside the firewall, I’m still unable to get any different response from Plex. exact same failure to claim. I am logged into the QNAP NAS on one tab, and into the plex.tv web side on the other tab. The local NAS does show the server, and libraries, but I cannot access any of it with Plex. The web.tv side shows my login information, but nothing at all regarding my plex server. I have logged out of everything, cleared my cache, and relogged with no changes.

I’m stymied on what to attempt next, so I need some additional help, because I’d rather not go changing my router to bridge mode or using port forwarding unless absolutely required, though I did not have issues until I updated the Plex software with no prior requirement to do so.

PMS logs in a zip, right after reproducing the error please

After messing with it late into last night I was able to get PMS to connect halfway with the web side again after re-setting the DNS on the modem and rebooting. I moved the NAS back inside the firewall again, and restarted it, and I am currently able to see my movies on the LAN, and it’s not telling me I have to claim the server any longer. with it connected to my login. The remote access piece tells me that my server is not currently reachable from outside however. Perhaps double-NAT/Port forward related.

However; going to look at the server on the web app the page tells me that the server is currently unavailable. If I try to play a movie from the NAS player app it tells me there is a playback error with “a conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.” for some files, mkv specifically, which is the majority of my library, though it will play m4v files.

Not a single movie has graphics, even after scanning/refreshing metadata. Trying to do a match on any file fails for both plex movies and the movie database, where 95% of them were matched on my last install.

I can still upload logs if it would help, I will need to look at how to turn them on, and grab them. I did find a folder on the NAS for logs but the settings in the player are set for the logs disabled currently. I assume you want logs from debug set to enabled? Clicking on the “find logs here” link just below it takes me to a page of XML text, but no logs.

I’m beginning to think I have corrupted installations.

Qnap faq.....read me first! See Q25

Thank you. I had read those, and I can access those logs, but I didn’t know if I needed to change the setting in the settings->plex web->debug for the “debug level” from disabled to something else first and perform an action before I zip and post the log files?

Debug level logging is needed, and NOT verbose!

If unable to access settings, you can alter the Preferences.xml file by adding this entry: logDebug="1"

According to the logs, PMS can’t access the internet, and as such, not a Plex issue, but a QNAP issue!

Check your QNAP network setup, especially default route and DNS settings

Thank you. I will circle back around with my ISP then, because I cannot get the Modem to bridge appropriately, nor port forward. I am away from my server for the next four weeks however, and won’t have time to address these issues until I return.

Are you using Xfinity ?

If, see: https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access/

No, I use DSL through Alaska Communications

Ack, then when you return home, put your pc on the network, and check it’s gateway and dns setting

So, to come full circle, I determined my issue, and it was entirely self inflicted. I recently set up my firewall device, and am still learning my way through it. During the course of setting it up I determined that the QNAP T451+ that I use makes use of a Bittorrent type download manager, and that program was sending a huge load of outgoing ping to servers across Russia. I said huh-unh, that’s not happening, but I didn’t know how to block it initially, so I went brute force approach and blocked all outgoing service requests from the NAS to outside on the two MAC’s for the IP address. Oddly enough, that seems to have stopped those connections, but as a side effect may have also stopped Plex from communicating outside, go figure, right? :frowning:

TLDR; Long story short, I disabled the manager in the NAS, removed the MAC blocks, and Plex is working again.

I apologize for taking up your time for a mistake I made while learning.

We all learn, and that’s the good part of it

And glad you not only found your issue, but also that you responded back with the reason…
