Still the-same here despite the latest updates, constantly says my files are not available, even stopping and restarting the pms on shield isn’t currently working, I’ve gone back to kodi on the same system that finds and plays my Dolby Vision files no problems.
Plex is so close to getting dumped, it is no use if it doesn’t work.
This morning Plex Server on my shield would “work” show content other than my local repositories. When I tried to access local (movies, tv shows, etc) I got a grey screen with a message that my Plex Media server needed to be updated if I wanted to continue, but no such update was available in Play Store (it updated last week).
Uninstalled Plex Player and Server, rebooted, reinstalled both… plex server install was grey screen with spinner for hours. Forced closed, uninstalled, reinstalled several times before I finally reached the end.
I can browse the libraries remotely from a desktop web browser to shield IP, but can’t play anything. Plex Player on the shield itself shows me the warning triangle sign and can’t connect at all.
Hi guys,
It started happening again for me. PMS is up on Shield, then I open Plex client on my android tablet, it loads the initial library, then the server goes down for minutes to hours.
I don’t see a point in attaching logs here, I already attached a few of them and all were deleted by staff without a comment.
@Ridley @drzoidberg33 @StSimm1 guys, I am sorry for pinging you like this. In case this thread is overlooked, may I please ask you to consider going over this issue and give Shield some love, please? You have a great product, but we need some help here. Thank you
do we need to disable auto app updates on the shield and roll back to earlier software? is that gonna solve this Offline server issue?
I bit the bullet and uninstalled everything from my Shield, and then reinstalled and rebuilt my entire library from scratch. It’s back up now and so far it is working once again.
same here. Uninstalled. rebooted. installed from Play store… then created a new library from scratch. and removed old Shield library from devices part of web interface.
So, I have been waiting patiently since early December when problems with PMS on Shield seemingly started, telling myself it must be resolved any day now.
There were two updates since then, if I recall correctly, and I have yet to experience any improvement concerning the plethora of issues I encounter with my server.
Ranging from small annoyances to really big problems, I’d like to list a few of those issues:
- General long response time for accessing the server from any device
- Home screen is inaccessable. I can reach the individual libraries, but the home screen is stuck on infinite loading.
- When the home screen is available, it usually doesn’t refresh for minutes after finishing an episode
- Meta data agents not available most of the time (Either says ‘Loading…’ on the drop down menus, or the window doesn’t even load)
- Server constantly stops running, won’t restart until the entire device has been rebooted.
- Now this one’s a biggie: I can rarely enter the server settings via the web interface, even though the server is running and I’m able to stream media (over local network)
- Remote access doesn’t work and I can’t even try to fiddle with it, because of the aforementioned issue
That’s all I can think of for now. I’d like to stress that the server is semi-working, but that I’m extremely displeased with how much work I have to put into it, to constantly get it to that state.
I’ve tried clearing the cache and the data of the PMS and the Plex app. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling PMS. I even did a factory reset on the Shield itself and started from scratch. Nothing.
I’ve installed the latest updates. In fact, I installed one just a few hours ago (1.21.3.4021). All to no avail.
It baffles me how this hasn’t even been officially adressed. It’s been going on for two months now. How is it that there were resources available to implement game streaming, while the broken main feature of an entire platform was seemingly neglected?
Anyways… Please fix this mess. It’s unbearable.
Edit: As a side note, I briefly considered it had something to do with my local network, but I can access the server’s folders via Windows Explorer in a matter of seconds.
Plus, local game streaming is working at 1080p60fps without any hiccups, so I guess it’s fair to assume, that’s not it.
Not sure if you guys noticed, but today I see a new update for nvidia pms 1.21.3.4021.
I’ll update now, and report in few days if I see improvements.
PMS ver 1.21.3.4021 doesn’t help me. A couple versions ago I could use PMS reliably, but starting a couple months ago I had to turn off PMS on my NAS first. Then I could use the Shield PMS from my Rokus, but not Windows or Android phone… More recently PMS on the Shield (2017) just doesn’t work. I wonder if the upgrade to Shield Experience had something to do with this issue. I can’t remember when I updated that.
Didn’t help me also. Just had two pms dropouts (pms not available over localhost url), in a 1h of watching a movie. It comes back in few minutes.
I gave up, I’ll be moving pms to windows.
We already found the solution.
Uninstall Plex, delete the server and reinstall Plex
Oh hey guys… So as i wrote above, I reinstalled and it started working again after thrashing my harddrives rebuilding the metadata. worked great for 2 weeks, and then BAM. same problem happened again. I couldn’t connect through my PS4, or through my PC. But I did notice that while I couldn’t connect to SERVERNAME on my phone, I COULD connect to localhost. And so it was working but also not working.
THE REAL FIX? Okay well maybe the not having to rebuild metadata fix - On my local network, I connected directly to the server: http://(insert local server ip address here):32400/web/
And guess what? it was in setup mode. So i just hit next, next, done, and then my server was back. I hope this helps someone out there.
Wow! you got to be kidding me! Played/unplayed, meta data all there! Two clicks and everything is running like a charm again, no uninstall/reinstalling.
Thanks a lot man! I wonder why this solution did not come up earlier?!
How can we make your post to “Solved”? I bet many would want to try that!
When I try this, I get a “can’t load - network connection was lost” message. I’m able to access logging at (local):32500/logging about half the time
PMS is stopped and will not start back up. I have a massive library and tons of custom metadata, so clearing and wiping (as I’ve done twice in the past) is an option I absolutely refuse. The server and data are on an external harddrive and I’ve done a database backup as recently as the day before yesterday, so hopefully I can retrieve everything. I haven’t had good luck with it in the past however.
Using PMS: 1.21.4.4079 (smb)
and Plex version: 8.13.2.23227
This is maddening. Where is Plex support?
Any solution that doesn’t involve erasing everything and starting over. I know that will work, but I have a 12TB library and a massive amount of custom metadata I’d be insane if I lost. I always meticulously backup my data, but the last time this happened, I ended up having to delete everything anyway because whatever error that was causing it to crash was being copied with the database.
I’ve discovered my issue is due to an SSL certificate error. Trying to figure out how to resolve the issue.
