I get the same behavior with that version.
After about a week of problems trying to fix this, downgrading to 1.28 restored full server settings access for me.
Thanks @lotusshaney1 for posting the links to download the older versions, could not find them anywhere.
You will need to roll back to a server version that worked or try one of new Betas.
Yes, same here. Mac mini (Late 2012) High Sierra. Had to roll back to PMS 128.x… Thanks to all who posted here.
The only fix for me on Mojave was to roll back to 1.29.0.6244. Anything newer than that is just plain broken.
Any resolution yet? You guys should be able to figure this out. It’s obviously an issue with the upgrade past a certain point…
@SE56 - thanks for the easy instructions on rolling back, as @geofbuck I’m on Mojave (10.14.6) and it’s working fine on 1.29.0.6244.
I’m on a late 2012 Mac Mini, which seems to be pretty common as well.
@anon18523487 - any luck so far? Can you reproduce the issue?
Same thing here, but running on a Mac Mini (Late 2012) with macOS 10.14.6
Tried resetting the .plist entries, removing the System/WebClient/Framework.bundles, reinstalling from scratch…
Nothing works.
I can claim the server and it’s visible in my Authorized Devices, but when trying to view any settings: Server Settings are Unavailable.
Plex Media Server.log shows an unknown exception from the request handler:
Nov 07, 2022 15:44:38.219 [0x70000cc88000] DEBUG - Request: [127.0.0.1:53763 (Loopback)] GET /:/prefs (12 live) #769 GZIP Signed-in Token (*redacted*) (Safari)
Nov 07, 2022 15:44:38.221 [0x70000cc88000] ERROR - Got unknown exception from request handler
I’d rather not downgrade as, knowing myself, in time, I’ll forget this issue and upgrade again anyway ![]()
Known working version: 1.28.2.6151 (download)
Known working version: 1.29.0.6244 (download)
You need to do a downgrade to one of the above versions.
I’ve tested both on my 2018 Mini x64 with 10.14.6 like you.
Normally downgrading is as easy as stopping PMS and dropping a new one into /Applications.
But by changing your plist you now have to sign out and reclaim.
How To Sign Out PMS on a MAC, Downgrade, and Reclaim
Sign out PMS from Remote and Local logins
- Quit out of PMS on the Mini if it’s running.
- Open the hosted web app → Settings → Authorized Devices → Servers (it’s a drop down)
Delete your Mini PMS from the list. - Open a Terminal on the Mini and issue the commands below.
Don’t expect any output.
If you seeDomain (com.plexapp.plexmediaserver) not foundyou can ignore it.
defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver PlexOnlineHome
defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver PlexOnlineMail
defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver PlexOnlineToken
defaults delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver PlexOnlineUsername
Downgrade
- Quit out of PMS if it’s running.
- Download the older Plex Media Server 1.29.0.6244 from the link above.
- Go into your downloads folder and double click it to unzip it.
- Drag the app from Downloads and drop it into
/Applicationsand Replace
Reclaim
- Safari → History - Clear History → All History → Clear History
- Restart the Mac. Do not select Reopen Windows When Logging Back In
- In Finder → Applications on the Plex Media Server icon
CTRL+Right ClickorCTRL+2FingerTap - Choose Open and Open to get past the Unsigned or Unverified warning.
- Getting your Plex claim token:
– With PMS started on the Mac
– In a new Safari tab, open Claim | Plex
– It will present you with a claim-xxx token
– COPY it - In a terminal on your Mac issue the claiming command where you replace
PASTE_TOKEN_HEREwith the everything copied in step (5).
curl -X POST 'http://127.0.0.1:32400/myplex/claim?token=PASTE_TOKEN_HERE'
Our hero explains the rest.
Notes
Where ChuckPA says “Open via the LAN IP” I open Plex for Mac.
I just tried all these steps, and it works great, like a ![]()
I have seen multiple references to using Terminal and entering DELETE commands however these don’t work if you stop your instance of PMS and enter the commands. It just kicks out errors. It only works if there is an instance currently running…. Scratching my head on why this keeps getting listed as a solution
I use those commands frequently. They work as written and don’t often return a message.
If they do return a message, sometimes it’s harmless but looks like an error.
Harmless output example
With PMS quit, I’ll delete an entry twice. The first time it succeeds.
The second time there was nothing to delete. So it returns noise.

I will clarify the steps in my previous post. Thanks for mentioning this.
It’s Plex that says don’t modify your plist with PMS running. It won’t work the way you want.
If you absolutely must modify an advanced hidden setting while the server is running, then you can curl that with your token.
Ok thanks for clearing that up! I wasn’t sure the commands were doing anything meaningful. The only thing that worked for me was rolling back to 1.29.0 and reclaiming server. I tried everything else.
I recently started getting this. I reinstalled my server and nothing.
Just Tried beta 1.30.0 released on the 31st of October and that fails aswell.
All of the sudden my server is unclaimed after restarting the server. I also have an update. When I click on the up arrow icon on the activity menu and click server update available, I get a screen saying it’s unclaimed and to click the claim it now button to claim it, to which I get a “server settings are unavailable” screen.
carefully follow the instructions above that I wrote and tested.
After that I just don’t update, right?
That’s correct, just don’t upgrade anymore (until we
that there’s a fix out).
Issue persists on 1.30 on OSX 10.14.6. Last known working version is: 1.29.0.6244.
me too it doesn’t work. Same Issue, no server settings
