Installed the hotfix and sideloaded the apk, there was no need to reboot. Plex was alive right away! NTFS usb storage 4tb. Shield Pro 2019
Settings are accessable except the one for Plex Media Server.
Thanks Plex!
Goto system apps uninstall all Plex server updates then update Plex server from Google play store and force close the Plex app. When you next open the Plex app it will say that it’s found a new Plex server do you want to set it up, go through the steps and you should now see your Plex server in settings and will be able to change the storage
I am having the same issues with Plex after the update, “Server Settngs Unavailable”. Question regarding the Shield 9.0+ Hot Fix, which is references a fix using NTFS with USB storage. I am using NTFS shares on remote Windows servers as my Plex Library sources, which are still showing connected in the Shield interface, but not in Plex. In this case is the hotfix required, or can I just proceed with the Plex sideload update? New to Shield Pro for less than a month, so I’m also wondering if this type of carnage is a regular occurrence with the Shield “Experience” updates. I signed up for the hotfix yesterday but it still hasn’t shown up yet. I’m also new to the sideload install process, but my understanding is that it is doing an installation outside of the Play store. I have located the Plex update in the Downloads folder on the Shield via a remote connection, but not exactly sure how to execute the installation. Thanks for any guidance on getting Plex operational again.
That was my initial symptom after shield update (lost access to server settings)… doing factory resets since. Still trying with this sideload one.
Factory reset with the fix (that fixs the internal memory issue), then this sideload (that fixes the moving the db to external storage)… having hope
Working again now for me.
Plex data on USB attached drive
Applied nvidia hotfix
Adb install the apk from above
Done a couple of reboots since and still ok
Thanks for your efforts. Installed the hotfix and sideloaded the apk. My HDD’s are found again and I can create and start a new server. However, using app.plex.tv I get the notification “Unable to connect to Shield Android TV securely”. I’ve tried changing the network settings to allow insecure connections etc. but it didn’t change anything. Using the Shield’s IP address on port 32400 does work and I managed to configure my server. Unfortunately when I then try to scan my libraries the connection with the server is lost after about 15 minutes and only a reboot of the Shield can reestablish that connection. Given that it usually takes a couple of hours to rebuild my library this version of PMS is not quite working for me, I’m afraid…
My Plex Client doesn’t work after the shield upgrade and I don’t use my shield as a plex server (I have a separate NAS for that). Will my client be fixed once whatever is fixed with the PMS works? If I start the client it exits out after about 30 seconds, I only found this out when I let it sit while trying to find out why it would stop playing and exit out within the same time period after the upgrade. Thanks!
Still the same partial luck with this newest test APK on Shield Pro 2019 with ADOPTED Storage on external USB SSD, running Experience 9.0.1 Hotfix. Plex server & client apps’ “Storage used” settings show both being installed to their default location on External USB. All available permissions & special permissions set to the most permissive “Allow”.
Music Library empty after scanning NAS folders
No streaming to other devices; only local playback on the Shield
I didn’t actually try it, but probably a safe assumption that Live TV/DVR still not working
Log file attached. I didn’t do much, so should be fairly easy to parse.
Completely uninstalled Plex / PMS.
Deleted every Plex-related folder I could access on the Shield (Android/data is locked).
Rebooted, reinstalled, set permissions, and then setup from scratch (did not allow auto library creation; it took 3 tries for it to be successful).
It took a couple minutes, but I was then able to see the server on Plex Web
Setup Music library. It was empty after it scanned.
Setup Movie library.
Tried playing a movie on web. Network error.
Tried playing a movie on the Shield. It worked.
At this point I give up. Time to go nuclear and do a full factory reset.
Spoke too soon.
Constantly losing access to the attached storage via PC.
Plex works then doesn’t (probably related to above)
Having to reboot to get it working again
The factory reset appears to have solved all of my problems (except for SMB permissions getting revoked once Plex accesses a folder on Adopted Storage – but I think that’s on Nvidia and their shoddy Hotfix for Adopted Storage + SMB network access).
Given that the specific problems I had persisted with every version of PMS I tried from 1.24 through the latest 1.25 test – and weren’t fixed until I factory reset – I can’t say 100% that any of the PMS app changes were responsible for the fix. For me (Shield Pro 2019 with USB SSD Adopted Storage), it may have all been the Nvidia firmware update botching my setup.
I also note that both Plex apps currently show as being installed in Internal storage, whereas they always installed by default to External USB prior to the reset. That may likely also play a role.
Thank you @anon18523487
This workaround (NVidia 9.0+ hotfix and PMS apk sideload) works for my setup.
PMS data on external USB storage (64 GB thumb drive, NTFS) and media files stored on network storage.
PMS is back to normal with no data loss.
