Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

Thank you for your efforts with this. After researching how to sideload the apk I’ve decided to just wait for the next beta update later this week. Will I automatically get a notification when that is released if I have chosen the experimental features option? Or will there be a notice somewhere on this forum when it is released? I don’t believe I am signed into the beta program on the Play Store.

So up to this point I have not installed the Nvidia hotfix, nor the Plex update/fix. For whatever reason when I tried to start plex on the shield today, it actually completed the setup…well sort of. When I go to the settings of the shield I can see my external drive and have it setup to transfer files over the network. The problem is, when I go to my plex settings to change the server location, it does not show my external storage, it only shows two “internal” options. My quetion is, does anyone know how to fix this…is this what the current “plex fix” is all about? Which, if so, leads me back to my previous question (as this is a little over my head) how do we install said plex fix?

Thanks

I did a fresh install of pms on shield…installed hot fix first then the New apk fix and its working now…but I try to move pms data to my external drive…it says please be patient it could take several depending size of your Library…it keeps loading and doesn’t copy the files to external…copying data files to external not working

So, I just went for it and tried to side load the plex update through downloader and it worked…I followed the rest of the instructions, rebooted the shield and now when I go to plex storage settings I can see my external drive. The only problem is when I point to that I get a message that “we were unable to move the files to the new storage location”. Does anyone have a fix for this? I feel like I am so close, hopefully not yet so far away, lol.

Thanks

Yes! This works perfectly. Thank you!

It worked beautifully… …for around 1hr 45mins and then the server suddenly disappeared again and won’t come back. I’ve had enough of it for now and will go through it all again in a day or two. Time to catch up on Spotify and forget the TV for a day or two. :-/

I had this until I installed the NVidia 9.0+ update. After this it was able to move to the new storage. I did have to wait overnight after filling the form though.

sideloaded apk, Fat32 external USB library working again, thanks!

Sideloaded PMS 1.25.3.5410-f11334058-4100-f1133405 using Adblink. Rebooted, PMS is working again. Thanks.

See my steps in my previous comment. If you just want the database, find the database in the folder mentioned and replace it with the backup you have. If this doesn’t make sense, I’m going to need more info from you on where the database is currently, do you have a backup, do you have the old data folder, etc.

This issue with the external drive is not where the media is. The problem is if you told PMS to move the data folder to a USB external drive. Where is this folder? If it’s set to the internal memory, you have a different issue.

How did you do that? The Shield no longer offers the ability to format drives or sd cards except to make them adopted storage. If you do have it as adopted storage, you are not affected by this specific issue.

I did not install 9.0 hotfix as I don’t want to loose Google certification for applications.

The hotfix will not affect this. It’s an official firmware, just opt-in.

Sorry, don’t have one.

Almost none? If PMS is working, the settings should be either all or nothing. If only some are inaccessible, something is wrong and you might need to resetup the server.

What type of eternal drive is it? If it’s a new drive, try reformatting it first (a quick format is fine). If it’s an existing drive, connect it to a computer and check for errors.

You need the NVidia 9.0+ hotfix.

I can confirm that installing the hotfix for Shield TV fixed my problems. :grinning:

Thank you MovieFan.Plex. Yes my PMS is on the internal storage so good to know I have a different issue. Will try a factory reset and rebuild everything.

Probably (past) a good time to remind everyone to back up \Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\ (or whatever path your server is stored and run on)

exFAT 18TB USB drive here, both media and the server running on it before the great crash of 2022. Android hot fix was required for apps (PMS in this case) to see the “adopted storage” and read/write the server files to it.

PMS still would not start or show in Plex settings after loading both the Android hot fix and sideloading the PMS fix above. So I cleared both apps cache, started a new server, then stopped it, and moved over the backup I had of \Android\data\com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb\.

It’s back and running now.

I’ve had issues with PMS stopping and never being able to run again in the PLEX app before this, and wish it would have its own GUI and system app on Android. Even if simple, it be nice to be able to trouble shoot things when it hangs, see logs, ect rather than it just disappearing and then requiring the force-stop and cache clear, setting up a virgin server, and then restoring a backup.

@anon18523487 It’s the external drive I have the media for plex server…it scans media fine but it won’t let me move pms data to external drive

I was mostly talking about any settings. I’d like to not have to redo anything. Where would I go about finding ‘com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb’?

I don’t see any files inside of \Android\data. Is the content maybe only visible with a setting checked?

I did not install 9.0 hotfix as I don’t want to loose Google certification for applications.

That’s not true. Per NVIDIA:

HotFix images are not Google certified. The next official release will have all certifications. The negative side affect we’ve noticed from this so far are listed below and others may appear as time goes on:

a. You won’t be able to install or update Disney+ from the Playstore if you haven’t installed it yet or do a Factory reset on this image.

b. HD Homerun DRM channels will not work.
