If you do factory settings of your Shield, you would lose all of your customisations. Not sure how you can save any settings. But if you want to retain your PMS library, which has your media folders and metadata, then you need to save the ‘com.plexapp.mediaserver.smb’ folder, which can be found in the ‘Android folder’. Depending on where you have your PMS location, which is either internal or via USB.
Yeah I’m going to do the same and just wait. My patience is kind of wearing thin. I am interested when a notification of when that is released or will there be a notice somewhere on this forum when it is released?
Im not side loading either, checking daily Google Playstore for a release of a version with this fixed. Hopefully by the end of this month as internal storage is already warning of critical low storage.
I’ve done the HotFix from NVIDIA and also the sideload the APK for the PMS. PMS is back online and also I’m able to use USB as the storage location for the PMS.
However PMS tends to disappear from the Plex settings occasionally, which causes the server to be ‘missing’. I had to wait for the PMS to come back itself, which could take between 5 minutes to 30 minutes.
I hope the Plex/PMS update will fix this issue.
New Plex user here.
I don’t have the hotfix installed, and I am not using the above PMS apk either. At first I was not able to see the Shield server nor my (6x 4TB) external drives attached to my Shield. What I did is that I cleared the data of Plex and PMS applications and started fresh. I granted the access when prompted, connected to the Shield server, I can now see the drives and have successfully added the movies in the library.
Ever since the problem, I have not touched my database at all because I didn’t want to go through the trouble of setting up my library all over again (which includes custom posters and collections). I tried to wait for official updates from Nvidia and Plex, but my patience wore thin and I installed the beta PMS over regular shield experience 9.0. It didn’t improve anything, so I signed up for the hotfix and waiting for it to be pushed…
Meanwhile, I have set up an Emby server on the Shield and it actually works… so there must be some way for someone to do it.
According to nvidia you can no longer access the android/data folder by design not as an error.
Therefore backup/restore is no longer possible until plex change the storage location for data.
Can anyone else confirm this - For me android/data is reporting as inaccessible both locally and over the network. (My usb drive is formatted as adopted storage).
When Plex stopped working for me, I was devastated! I use it all the time! Following all the steps, rebooting (including unplugging power), and force stopping the pms and starting back up - it all started working perfectly again! Thank you SO much!
Yes…same here… still trying to recover pms. I will try to leave the usb pen as normal storage and place the pms db there…and leave it there to allow regular backups… this until plex changes the default path in internal storage
I can only see the backup directory locally, it’s not visible over the network but I can still backup (but it’s a pain). However. It’s useless if Plex don’t change things to allow you to restore the backup, double sigh.
Hello,
I take the PMS 1.25 from the link above.
I have clean all the memory of my Nvdia Shield from older directory, server, app PLEX.
Clean my Plex older configuration (nuke my old conf).
Then reboot the Shield.
Install the new PMS (1.25), install Plex and … it works : PLEX can see my media, and acess to it.
My media are on an USB HDD format NTFS.
I let the PMS data on internal memory.
I have not apply the Hotfix from Nvdia.
Good luck.
Having got plex working after applying the hotfix and then sideloading the new apk, all is still not well. I am constantly having to reboot the shield and have now deduced that it is accessing the shield attached storage from a PC that is causing the problem. It works for a minute or two then locks up the PC, stops plex from working and the whole shield becomes sluggish.
Confirming that this did work for me.
I installed the 9-hotfix over the weekend, and side-loaded the APK from this thread just now.
Rebooted, gave the shield a couple of minutes and I was back to my Plex experience as expected - including being able to resume the episode I was part way through before the system upgrade.
Huge thanks as PMS is my primary reason for having the shield in the first place
So my PMS (2.15) work on Shield, I can watch and access films, … from my HDD USB.
But I can’t play movies, … from an distant PC, iphone, TV not directly connect to my Shield (it doesn’t matter if it’s on local network or over Internet).
Plex said : S1001 (Network).
Can you help me ?
The updates are causing a NEW problem for some of us.
I have done everything to update as per your instructions:
- Nvidia Hot Fix
- Side load Plex Media Server App.
I have Plex Metadata and my actual media all saved to the same 32TB attached storage device to my NVidia Sheild Pro (USB connection)
All of this was originally working fine after doing the hotfixes however my Plex Media Server is constantly disconnecting and disappearing on me. At first I would need to reboot my Shield every 15min or so. I woke up this morning and cannot get my PMS back online, no re-boots or anything seem to fix it.
Nothing on my network has changed, never really had any disconnection problems before these two updates.
Please advise.
Same problems, my PMS disconnect without reason… i have no problem with my network (ETHERNET gigabit).
It seems when plex client is not on the screen, it disconnect the PMS for other client.
I think I have something similar happening on my end that I talked about in a new comment below.
Essentially did the side load updates of both Plex and Nvidia Shield hot fix. Things worked fine the first day and now my PMS is missing and nothing is bringing it back.
Correct me if wrong, but this only applies to AOSP device internal storage?
My PMS was running on adopted (attached) storage before the issues, so I was easily able to get the backup and manipulate files. Googling, it seems there might now be some file browsers that will allow you to grab the files from internal storage if that’s where you were running it.
@anon18523487 Everything was working correctly last night, but waking up this morning PMS had stopped because access to the adopted storage stopped working.
PMS on adopted storage and PC access through Samba to adopted storage would not work until I rebooted the shield. HotFix doesn’t seem to be a “fix all” if adopted storage access eventually stops working,
There is an issue with transcoding on the 1.25 version of PMS, and other threads on that topic. It sounds like that’s what isn’t working on your Plex. As far as I know, the solution for now is to downgrade to 1.24.
Thanks !
I think i will wait for 1.26, I have just rebuild my library
