Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

After getting impatient, I went ahead and applied the Hotfix using steps similar to these. I can confirm that this worked. I was able to select my 8TB EasyStore that is connected via USB to my Shield TV Pro.

question is now how long will it hold up for - keep us informed.

I thought my Plex got fixed with this method.
However, now Nvidia is malfunctioning (Keeps on freezing) and PMS keeps on disappearing.
Hope a proper update comes out ASAP.

No issues with mine yet… We’ll see. It’s been about 5 hours now and still processing my library files. No evidence of PMS disappearing yet.

Try remount network storage. I got PMS running again without hotfix. Just by enabling Plex “Files and media” permission and remounting network storage. PMS running on internal, media data on Synology.

That’s not true. Sorry not trying to be rude but many others like myself have reported the network drive issue as well.

It worked a few days here with the hotfix & the apk, but now it’s broken again. After rebooting Shield is recognizing the external drives, but after a few seconds it doesn’t anymore. Anybody else experiencing the same?

I marked my comment with the instructions on applying the hotfix and the apk as the solution for this issue. I know it’s not a definitive solution but at least this will make it clearer for new users joining.

I don’t know what you are asking? See my “solution” comment for steps on restoring your old data folder.

I was able to replicate this before, but something changed and now I can’t. I’m still playing around with settings to see if I can figure out what changed.

Yes, but you should only have issues with not seeing PMS if you had moved your data folder to a usb drive. If you had it on the internal storage or adopted storage, you should not be seeing the issue reported here. If you can’t see your server in this case, it’s another issue.

See my “solution” comment.

Yes, but issues with seeing network drives in not related to Experience 9 or latest PMS update. This is likely some other issue. i don’t mind investigating that, but I don’t want to derail this specific thread.

It looks like server is shutting down after random x minutes. Then i cannot access my external drives anymore too. I have USB turned on always

Are you able to reproduce it easily? If so can grab a logcat from the Shield after it happens?

adb logcat > logcat.txt

Adjust that for your OS if needed. Let it sit for about 30s then cancel it and PM me that file.

i’m afraid i’m gonna need a little bit more help on how to do that on shield?

Do you already have adb setup? I assume you do if you sideloaded the apk. Open your command prompt/terminal/etc. for your OS. Connect to your Shield.

adb connect ip.of.your.shield
adb logcat > logcat.txt

Wait 30s

ctrl+C or whatever the interrupt for your OS is. Adb should stop. Grab the file.

Ciao @anon18523487 !

Does this version contain more fixes than the apk to be sideloaded that was shared before? I’m a bit wary of having plex stopping after a while as users are sharing.

I applied for the beta 9.0.1 fix, and I imagine I would need that. I still need to check if I received it, but that should be easy to do (even if I hope nvidia will push an official signed update soon)
How to use beta update channel as a plex pass users? Will the app just show in the shield store?

Thank you!

@anon18523487 I had the same experience as venableskevin_gmail_com. I mean I have to turn off/on the Shield several times and restart the scan process to complete it. The external SSD wasn’t accessible. But now that my library is back, I’m using it in read mode -listening music- for more than 24hours and PMS is fine. Maybe there’s something wrong with the scan process.

I installed the hotfix and side loaded the PMS apk. Everything works fine during the day but next morning plex hangs at the logo and I need to reboot to get it going again. My USBs are always powered on. For me it looks like plex isn’t able to get my external hard drive spinning but the issue only occurs overnight. Its off for many hours during the day but will work as expected when called on. But overnight something is happening that hangs it in the morning. Any ideas?

no, in don’t have adb setup i don’t… just installed the apk through x-plore (apk on google drive)

Mine are always set to on and having issues like everyone else. Also not sure if you saw in another post but I uploaded my logs in a separate
com.plexapp.system.log (39.7 KB)
forum thread I made earlier. Will upload them here too in case you missed them

Quick update on my side:

  • updated shield to 9.0.1 → feels a bit more sluggish, but maybe it’s because it’s a debug build, without optimizations. Hope that is not what leads to the server crashing
  • no sideload of APK

Plex came back to life! It sees the external usb drive containing the metadata, and for the moment it’s running. I don’t have access to the shield right now, but from the options on the web page I see it’s running this version 4.73.2.

I’ll keep it monitored to see if it crashes and forces me to restart the shield.

I’m on beta since started using Plex, but this announced update is not available yet…at least for me…
