What about v1.25.4.5426 for nvidia shield? Subscribed to beta yesterday but I cannot update from 1.25.3. Is there a link to apk to download it?

The new beta does not address any of the issues on the Shield. I will update here when there is something available through the Play Store.

Sorry – thought I was responding directly to your question about what people were using as their storage. But I too can’t get PMS working again on Shield 9.0 even after double and triple checking all of the permissions, rebooting the Shield, and remounting the NAS.

As I’ve said, having media on your NAS doesn’t matter. Where is your Plex data folder? If it’s on a usb storage device, have you installed the hotfix and the apk I provided? If the data is on internal, it’s a different issue. I don’t see anyone has started a new thread regarding this issue. Please start a new one and provide details and logs and I’ll take a look.

My PMS stopped again. My shield isn’t responding anymore. I stared X-PLORE I got an empty screen. I think I’m back to plug off-plug on the shield.

I said this morning it worked for more than 24h. It was a mistake because I have a scheduled reboot at 4 A.M. So it truly worked only for approximately 16 hours.

Anyone else’s libraries are not automatically updating even after the hotfix and the sideloaded server apk?

Sounds like it. @mrferaille please see PMS Hanging every night scanning with latest APK - #17 by gunnersboy and add your logs there for me to look at.

  • I am a Plex user and I have an 8TB NTFS-formatted USB drive attached to my 2019 Shield TV Pro containing my media (video clips and audio tracks).
  • My Plex Media Server Storage Location is ‘Internal (System)’. < Surprised me when I checked today.
  • I have NOT updated to Shield Experience 9 yet (luckily a family member warned me about the issues with it and I already had auto updates disabled on the Shield TV Pro).

Question:
With the above setup, would I be impacted in terms of ability to use Plex with my attached storage if I were to install the Shield Experience 9 (Android 11) upgrade?
You noted above “if the data is internal, that is a different issue…” If there is a thread / post about that, I can research it some more for myself.

(If I would be impacted), is there any ETA for a Plex update to address the PMS issues on Shield TV Pro with Shield Experience 9.0 / Android 11?

You should not be impacted by this issue. You may need to remount the network drives. That wouldn’t affect your PMS setup either. There may be other unknown issues. There is a HW transcoder issue we are looking into.

Thanks, I am using HW transcoding. Given that (and other potential unknown issues), to be safe, I will wait to upgrade to Shield Experience (SE) 9 / Android 11, especially since I am not in a rush to upgrade unless there is a compelling reason to do so (e.g. .huge functional benefit and / or a critical security (e.g. vulnerability) update.
Let me check out the change log / release notes for SE 9.0

Plex is working well for right now on my Shield TV Pro, so I prefer to hold off on upgrading to SE 9/0 / Android 11 until any Plex issues are definitively resolved.

The second version of the HotFix is deploying now: Second HotFix (33.1.0.264 deployed 1/20/2022) :

  • Includes Plex Media Server app which resolves issues with external storage
  • Resolves Issues with interlaced content playback
  • Fixes CEC volume control sometimes increments and decrements by 2
  • Remove creation of default Android phone type folders (Ringtones, Downlods, Photos, Movies, etc) added to USB portable storage
  • Update Match Refresh Rate String with Beta in all locations
  • Remove preview thumbnail when taking a screen shot with the menu button
  • Resolves Long press of Brand button on Xbox one controller does not invoke Stadia more than once

If we sideloaded the beta PMS image do we need to install the new one over it with this second hotfix
