Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

Hello,
I left on a new plex server without restoring. It seems to work, however when I open plex, I occasionally get a freeze of the shield. I have to unplug it.
Does this happen to anyone?
edit : My PMS no longer appears!
I can’t take it anymore!!!

Did @anon18523487 and you get anywhere in terms of a solution? Right now I have to manually scan the entire library or update metadata on a season to get it to scan.

So the 2nd version of the hotfix has been issued by nvidia. And it includes a PMS app. Should we take it that this is a solution to the many recent plex issues? Except for crashing once per day my plex is OK with the first hotfix and side loaded PMS so not sure I want to risk the 2nd hotfix. Has anyone tried it?

This second hotfix included the version on PMS that was provided previously so sideloading is not needed. We are also working on a new PMS build with additional changes. Hotfix 2 will be needed for these additional changes to work. You can stay on Hotfix 1 + sideloaded PMS for now.

Yeah I wouldn’t say it fixed it for me. While I can see the external drive, it’s not seeing any of the files/media on the drive. Still exclamation points.

I rebooted, re-installed plex, chose the external drive but nothing. Not sure what to do from here.

Doublecheck the permissions for Plex Media Server and make sure it is set to “allow” for “files and media”.

Hmm, I didn’t update Shield to the new Android version and my server is not reachable locally… Investigating. Has been good the past 2 weeks minus transcoding.

EDIT: It’s dead. Plex app doesn’t see the server and no amount of hard/soft booting helps. v1.25 is garbage… gonna have to start a new thread.

Here are some new logs post installation of the new update by Nvidia that just released.

com.plexapp.system.log (40.2 KB)

This did seem to resolve the issue, however it has returned despite no further changes, updates to PMS or the NVIDIA software.

Installed: NVIDIA hotfix, and PLEX APK via sideload, as posted above.
External USB storage formatted as NTFS, not adopted storage.

Last night, when opening plex on the shield itself, I was again greeted with the ‘no internet’ message (I confirmed there was internet via youtube app), and the plex media server options were all absent from the swim lanes on the settings screen. Just the heading, no tiles underneath.

Rebooted the shield several times, without success. Uninstalled PMS and re-sideloaded the APK which did get it working again but needed to rebuild libraries. Since then the PMS seems to go offline at random and needs a reboot of the shield to get up and running again.

EDIT: Hadn’t tried hotfix #2 yet - will do so and report back

That’s the system log. I need the main “plex media server.log”.

I am thinking to do Nvidia factory reset. Would it fix for now?

I just installed the nvidia shield hotfix and plex was fixed with no need to sideload.

See the first bullet of the release hotfix release not below.

PMS crashed for me too during the night.
Still have to install hot fix #2, but pretty sure it won’t change a thing, as it just packages the already shared apk.

I spoke to too soon. Plex now loads the libraries but doesnt play the movie which is stored on my NAS…

Hotfix #2 installed overnight … seems to he working today. The kids will soon let me know if it stops.

So the prompt for hot fix 2 showed up on my 2017 shield. I tried to install it and it stalled at trying to reboot. I could press back to exit it but the device becomes super laggy, and stalls when I do a straight reboot. I had to disconnect power to restart, and it shows me the prompt again. I’ll see what happens tomorrow morning after it supposedly tries to install on its own.

More of an Nvidia problem I suppose. Plex works fine after hot fix 1 and sideload APK, except for a lot more buffering and requiring to manually rescan libraries everytime I add files.

So once again, having worked all day yesterday, the day begins with Plex locking up the shield on its startup. Had to unplug and restart which has everything ok again. I have a NTFS external USB drive. Permissions are allow for Plex and PMS. Hotfix #1 and the PMS sideloaded. Will wait for the new PMS before making any more changes. Could you give us an update as to when the new PMS build is likely to be available.

Are there any updates regarding hw transcoding on Shield?

Installed Shield Experience 9.0.0 HOTFIX #2 and can now see the external USB SSD (NTFS) in PMS.

Moving PMS data to it now.

I have installed Hotfix Image #1 and also sideloaded the APK. PMS has been working with my USB drive for the last 3 days. Just noticed the Hotfix Image #2 update.

Should I install this?
