Installed Nvidia hotfix 2, server wouldn’t start (tried killing it, emptied cache on both apps, many reboots) icon wouldn’t even appear in the plex settings.
Had to uninstall and reinstall it.
Whole db was rebuilt and it worked (except hw transcoding, sigh), then I went to bed, and now it stopped, again.
Ordered the usb A to A cable, back to android Tv 9 and plex 1.24 tonight.
How you can break something that works in such catastrophic proportions is beyond me.
I installed nvidia hotfix 2 a little earlier and although my PMS started back up, the icons disappeared in the plex client in relation to configuring the server. Also when I went to clean bundles and optimise the database, this crashed PMS or at least took it offline. I rebooted shield and thankfully it came back up, then reran clean bundles and optimize database and it worked this time.
I still don’t have the plex server icons back, and I really can’t be bothered trying to get those back again, as another update might just remove them once more. The PMS is up and running so that’s the main thing.
BTW My plex content is on removable usb storage (NTFS), SSD in a caddy. I rebuilt library from scratch after installing hotfix 1, with sideloaded PMS apk.
I’ve made a separate post that HW transcoding isn’t working for me since upgrade to Android 11 on Shield, are others in the same boat?
Apologies, here is the plex media server log after installation of Nvidia Hot Fix 2. Also please note that I woke up to my Plex Server not working again this morning after it was working last night.
Hi, I installed the 1st Hotfix and the sideload PMS apk. Does not work!!! On PC my Shield is not available. No hope for fix @2hotfix from nviadia. But I’ll check it out. Who is to blame and must solve the problem? Plex or nividia??
Got fed up of fiddling trying to make it work and bit the bullet to factory reset and build Plex libraries etc again. After 3 attempts I still can’t get all files to play…
I have a 2019 shield pro, with usb as adopted storage and the database moved to user accessible internal storage. All files are stored on a Nas. Hotfix 2 installed and tried with and without the PMS update linked here installed. Had the same result.
Plex seems to find all the files, but when go to open them, they don’t work, some load up the full details and play button, others just give me an error and button asking to retry. Oddly, some files work, but very few. None of these are new files, they all worked prior to the android update.
Edited just to add, all files are accessible and work on VLC…
Made the shield update 9.0.1+hotfix
My PMS disappeared again. It was working last night, i had the hotfix installed by request thanks to the link above from a few days ago.
I made the official update praying to get my old server back (cause i had to made a new one since the 9.0 update) …
But now it’s worst. can’t even see the PMS in my settings when i launch Plex . So can’t even configure a new one.
it’s been a disaster week with this shield for me . Should have never ever update anything . Since the ads are on the main screen it’s been complete bullshit.
So - I’m clearly one of the lucky ones (no idea how) but I have a working system with the Shield 9 upgrade.
USB San Disk Extreme Pro formatted as adopted storage with library relocated to it.
WD EX2 as network storage
Only thing not working is HW Transcoding.
Presumably at some point the Nvidia hotfixes will be released as a point update and that’s all I should to install (but only when Transcoding is fixed) as it should include the latest PMS?
Here are my server logs… It looks like with the new apk & hotfix my plex runs ‘ok’. But everytime there is a scan (manually or automatically) plex keeps freezing.
OK I’ve just gone 12 hours without the need to reboot, by not scanning folders or updating metadata.
The minute I added files and scanned - BOOM
pms goes offline and reboot required.
(PMS data and media on attached storage)
I’ve got the second nvidia Hotfix, Plex doenst work! I installed the sideloaded PMS again and rebooted the Shield. Plex doent work!!! Thats realy very very annoying!!! Fix it plz
Hey @anon18523487 … any insight to whether this SMB issue on Adopted Storage of the Shield might be a Plex issue or an Nvidia issue? It’s easy to reproduce for testing. So far, I’ve only seen it when Plex Media Server scans Adopted Storage. I’m seeing this, even after taking the hotfixes and sideloaded Plex builds.
Create a new folder in Adopted Storage after applying Experience 9. Put some Plex Media files in that folder.
Allow Plex Media Server on the Shield to scan that folder.
As soon as scanning is complete, you’ve lost write access to that folder over SMB.
Folders that already existed prior to taking the Experience 9 update are unaffected by this.
One thing I’ve noticed when looking at the file properties in Windows is that when you first create/copy the folders, the owner is ” SHIELD\Nv_Samba". Once Plex scans it, the owner is now “Unix User \media_rw”. (However, there are other folders in Adopted Storage that I can still modify the contents of with \media_rw as the owner, provided Plex hasn’t scanned them.)
As I thought what a great pile of mess this has become formatted hard drive uninstalling Plex waiting to see what comes of this when there’s a stable working service from Plex/Nvidia and then will look at rebuilding my media library again…. got a bad head trying this trying that and still back to a great pile of mess
