No. It doesn’t work
Yeah that’s exactly it.
That 5448 version is a really bad joke.
Stays stuck in a loop when asking for the permission, can’t continue, can’t cancel.
It actually made me laugh frantically this time, although my hair is falling and my eyes are bleeding.
I tried to downgrade Shield firmware but couldn’t.
Everyday friends and family send me a message then go all Nelson from the Simpsons on me (pointing the finger at me and laughing)
The funniest is that I’m still trying to install every new version found here while knowing that even if I succeed hw transcoding will be broken anyway…
What pisses me off is seeing an admin say it’s solved… The joke.
Kind of stable here. PMS today was running in the morning. Still losing permissions on accessing from windows after file transfer, shield must restart to solve it, and didn try yet hw transcode.
Corrected the media locations using a web browser on PC. Now PMS crashes when scanning library files. Inch forward only to hit a wall again.
Now the shield is laggy and locking up. Almost like Plex is scanning files and grinding the shield to a halt. Everything is slow and then halts.
What pisses me off is nobody tested this sh**, “oh lets advertise a product and sell it as a bundle, but lets not waste time on QA, we must focus on other products to sell more.” not sure who to blame more, NVidia or Plex for the laziness.
Its not a detail, it simply doesn’t work…
Shield Pro 2019 with external USB SSD formatted as Adopted/Internal storage.
To be totally honest, I think any problems I had are squarely on Nvidia. I completely wiped all traces of Plex and PMS, and my issues still persisted when I reinstalled. Only when I factory reset my Shield was I able to get what seems to be a stable setup, now.
I honestly think that something about the Experience 9.0 upgrade process irreparably broke stuff that couldn’t be fixed without a reset. Even now, I struggle with SMB issues on the Nvidia Hotfix, which seems to be a bug in Nvidia’s court, as it also affects Kodi & RetroArch. (Once one of these programs scan a newly-created folder in Adopted Storage, that folder cannot be written to over SMB)
back on the wheel this morning,
Deleted old server from Authorised Devices.
Uninstalled Updates for Plex App (thanks @AntonioMiguel007)
Rebooted Shield and updated both Plex and PMS via Play store.
Went through the Plex setup wizard and created new server successfully.
All working, permissions automatically set correctly, then I rebooted and server won’t come back online.
Opening Plex app settings under Plex Media Server it is asking to “setup” new server again.
Just to add, ended up setting up a server again, it game me a server setup failed at first, second time it worked and I have just added TV Series as a test but can not see USB device.
I’ll now side load the latest version im sure that will break it but lets see.
Seems to be working afor now but can not see USB drive.
I installed the nvidia #2 hotfix and my server was still not working. I then went into Shield Settings > Apps > Special app access > Energy optimization and disabled optimization on Plex. After doing that Plex Media Server showed up under Plex Settings and I was able to start my server. It seems to be working for the moment.
The same for me.
Currently up and running on 9.0.1(33.1.0.264) with Plex 8.28.0.30077 / PMS 1.25.3.5448 (smb) with Plex data moved to USB SSD (Samsung 1TB) - but I can’t explain to anyone including my self how or why it is working now and not before.
I did disable “energy optimisation” for Plex app thanks @Cnaon and didn’t change the server name to what I normally name it, also let the setup wizard create default folders or could be something else too.
Also did a few reboots and its coming back up.
Another update - PMS is now not accessible - stayed up for 2 hours and was scanning music. If I try to go to settings > storage > it doesn’t let me in the settings menu freezes then closes by it self.
Stuck at “rebooting SHIELD” had to disconnect from power.
PMS came back after reboot - never had it do this before the Experience update was pretty solid.
It’s not working because transcoding is broken. I’m going to reply this to each and every post that says “things are great, it’s working”… because broken is not working. It’s worse than all previous versions ever, which is not the definition of progress.
Haven’t tested that as I find Shield useless for transcoding as it can’t do 4K to 1080 not to mention 10bit etc but yeah I agree no excuse for this disaster!!
If the path to the files was wrong then it sounds like it did create a new server. It is going to take a while to rebuild your library.
Does the Shield see it? Check the storage settings?
Huh. That setting shouldn’t be enabled normally.
I see the scanning in your logs. It is unable to update the database to continue working. The Shield losing access to the usb drive could do this. Your logs don’t prove this happened so I can’t tell, but PMS is still running. Losing access to the data folder could prevent it from responding.
Transcoding should work. HW transcoding is broken and we are looking into it.
My Plex is no longer working. Says “Retry Connection” but no matter what I do, I cannot access my videos etc.
That might be technically accurate, but I can’t even transcode H.264 in real time, presumably because it requires the might of HW transcoding (and now the server won’t even start, and I haven’t even updated to Shield 9). The entire reason I got the Shield was the ability to transcode high bitrate H.265 in real time while consuming hardly any energy. Now I can’t transcode any video in real time.
I’m going to attempt downgrade to v1.24.x this weekend, which I’m surprised isn’t the recommended workaround given no solution at the moment.
I appreciate every post you make MoveFan, but I’m just calling it how I see it. Sometimes I’ll push back when customers seem unreasonable, and sometimes I’ll push back when Plex response seems unreasonable.
What I know is 100% BS is that this topic has “been solved”. Prove it with a fully functional and official release, and that status can be claimed rightfully.
Thank you. Is sounds like some are still having issues but I wanted to give my update.
I have the Shield 2019 Pro with a external hard drive that holds my libraires and a 128 GB flash drive that is configured for internal storage. After Hotfix 2 Plex came back on the first try and found all media. It’s been 2 days now and it seems to be running other than today for some reason the Shield would not turn on using the TV or the Shield remote. I unplugged the Shield and plugged it back in and it appears to be working again.
Appreciate the efforts. This must not have been the best week at work you have ever had.
Update:
I tried to update one of my Movie libraries and got a spinning wheel, that wouldn’t go away. Left it overnight and the wheel was still spinning. Rebooted the Shield and it cleared the problem. Plex loaded as normal. I then updated another 3 Movie libraries and TV collection, all of which have found the relevant files and it is stable.
Same issue with Plex today. Locks up the shield and I need to unplug. By the way I also have Kodi on my shield and Kodi has had no problems operating through all of these Plex issues including accessing the same external NTFS USB storage that plex has a major problem with. I suggest plex takes a look at how Kodi accesses external storage so easily!
