Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

I have a san disk extreme pro usb drive, adopted storage, Nas media, no hot fixes needed.

Hi all,
I’m a Plex newbie and will be setting it up from scratch on my Nvidia Shield TV Pro with a 250Gb SSD connected initially.

I’m running the Nvidia Hot-Fixes after the Shield Experience 9 upgrade.

Q. Are there any updates to the below instructions because of the Hot Fixes, or do I just follow them and all should be good?

I’d recommend waiting for a while, specially if using external USB.

Bummer.

Are you recommending waiting for Nvidia’s next upgrade release?

I m a club’s member.

My library is on a Samsung T7 external SSD.

I am restarting from zero actually. I ve formatted the SSD on NTFS. Plex scan is on duty.

nvidia and or Plex, have a read through the above posts you’ll see there are a few issues specially the external drives disconnecting they can’t sort it out.

Ok cheers.
Just had a look at the Nvidia forum, certainly lots of info out there.
Expect I’ll be posting more questions soon.

hotfix #2 is nvidia have atm it doesn’t resolve the external drive issue.

ARGH … praying by some miracle when the hotfix gets installed and I install the APK from Plex somehow things will be working again… plz God.

Random question: is the download feature working for any of you guys?

When I try to download on my iPad it gets to the end and then it errors.

Hi,
since Nvidia Hotfix 1 + Side APK, i’ve been move my database on my external SSD.
It’was difficult to scan my library, server down a lot of time and when is down the only way to wake it up is to unplugged the shield.
But it’s OK, my database was rebuild.

Now my server is running but he’s down all night.
All the morning for have a running server i need to unpluged lhe Shield…
I think Server down because Shield in sleep and so External SSD was disconnect …?
Hope you can fix it,

If that can help i join my logs :
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-01-26_12-55-00.zip (2.8 MB)

Sorry for my English

EDIT : Now i run on Nvidia Hotfix 2 and PMS 5410 All Acces Allow (Database on external SSD NTFS)

Damnit. Confirmed after the nvidia update (9.0.1 or something) I then installed the APK from Plex and rebooted (twice) … Plex still showing offline. ARGH.

Here’s the story I had Plex and Plexamp working for my music and movie library working like a dream for the last two years on all my Apple devices updates in them two years for Plex-Plexamp had little hiccups but quickly resolved and working as usual on my setup Shield Tv pro and A Seagate usb hard drive recommend by Nvidia that works best with Shield Then came along the recent update to the Shield !!!BANG WALLOP!!! nothing works wished I’d waited before updating , After many days of trying this trying that and a bit more of that still not working Factory reset Shield wiped hard drive clean reinstalled Plex and Plex media server apps only to find the hard drive may run slow when used on Shield the instructions that were given when setting the hard drive back up so now the Seagate HDD works but looks like it’s no longer recommended by Nvidia to work on Shield TvPro…………. So Any new users wishing to setup a Plex on a Nvidia Shield I personally should think first as it’s not a plug and play service as it was in the past to get things running (Plex Tv-Movies etc working fine only personal media library doesn’t at the moment) I’m Waiting on a working update before I look at setting things backup as they were in the past such a shame as when it is working it’s the best….

Just wanted to chime in. Both Nvidia Shield TV Pro and Plex Media Server are busted after the Shield Experience 9 upgrade and PMS upgrade. The Shield freezes, lags and the PMS suddenly goes missing in action. Only way I can get both running again is too shutdown from the side menu of the shield, unplug & replug the Shield TV. After powering up - I launch plex through the apps side menu. I’ve been doing this almost daily since this started. I have tried doing all the tweaks that have been mentioned. No, I’m not installing a hot fix or side loading anything like that. I am patiently waiting this out until Plex and Nvidia push out a proper release in the normal channels to fix all of this. Anyways, other then that, have a g’day folks.

Mines all working fine but this is how i did it.

Installed update from Nvidia then plex stopped working just like a lot people have found out.

So signed up to the hotfix from Nvidia but didn’t install it straight away as i like to play with settings with what i read on this forum and the nvidia forum.

Well that didn’t work so did a factory reset installed the plex version that was posted above to use but nope still didn’t work.

So installed the hotfix 1 and 2 with the plex media server app that was suppose to resolves issues with external storage… guess what, nope still no external drives found.

So uninstalled both plex and plex media server from the shield and then went to the play store to update them both to the latest versions, but before trying made sure both were allowing access to files and folders, opened up plex and bingo got it all working again, was able to see my 3 external hard drive once again but have the server data on the shield internal device storage now instead of a external SDD drive like i did before.

Not added all my stuff as i will fill the shields device storage up as its so small in size 12GB Boooo lol (Hopefully the next model from Nvidia will come with a much bigger internal device storage like 256GB or even more).

Yes its a pain to re-add and setup plex again but hopefully all these issues will get fully sorted then i will add all my media again and the data to my external drive being used as a internal device storage.

I know many wont or dont want to start all over again from a factory reset and then install a hotfix or 2 and go back to using the internal device storage on the shield but it did work for me.

Also able to map the 3 external hard drive on my network on my laptop now then can be seen once again.

Well thats my story, i know its not back to what it was but at least it works.

My story/solution (so far):

  • I have Nvidia Shield Pro running PMS/Plex where all content is on a external USB hard drive
  • I installed the Android 9.0.whatever update and my Plex stopped working (said I “appeared offline”)
  • I signed up for the NVidia Shield hotfix via Google form sign-up (here)
  • ~8 hours later the hotfix showed up and I installed it (and rebooted)
  • I then installed the 1.25.3.5448 APK for PMS from Plex (here)
  • I then ran PMS and there was some new “permissions setup” wizard thing
  • I walked through it and selected the appropriate “allow all files” or whatever
  • The wizard actually was some loop where you can’t exit (nice) so I exited to Shield home screen and closed all running apps
  • I then ran Plex … I got spinning circle then the “offline” message
  • I then went back to Shield home screen, closed Plex app, and then disconnected network and reconnected it
  • I then opened Plex again … and Plex loaded up normally w/all my libraries/etc working

What a mess. I will def NEVER install an Android/Shield update again unless it forces me too (or Plex says I should - I trust them as this was not their fault).

Thank you to everyone at Plex who fixed this mess - praying everything keeps working. Good luck to everyone out there.

This also happened to me.

also still waiting - did Factory Reset #4 no longer using the external drive as it will eventually disconnect and freeze Shield, I’ll have to pull the power plug on it and after a couple of those it will corrupt the DB and PMS will not start ever again till I do another Factory Reset.

The setback now is I can’t add most of my music as the internal drive will run out of space.

Hoping a fix will come by the end of January.

Worth a mention - different issues occur on different generation Shields.

Having the same issue as well. Ever since plex 1.25 and/or andriod 11 on the sheild, plex no longer works.

The web interface at app.plex.tv cannot find the PMS -

"SHIELD Android TV is currently unavailable

Verify you have a network connection and that the server is online, or see our troubleshooting tips for further assistance."

On the plex settings page under the PLEX MEDIA SERVER section, there are no icons show to start/stop the server or set the storage location.

I cannot access the media files locally using the plex app on the shield.

I am using a 2017 Shield with a 2TB HDD connected via USB.

I can still connect to the network share of the USB HDD connected to the shield from my windows PC and read/write to it.

Have not factory reset the shield or sideloaded anything - judging by the responses from others here i’ll be waiting for official fixes from nvidia/plex.

Don’t think I’ve ever had a software update genuinely brick itself on any device for this amount of time, entering the third week since this thread started.
