Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

Shield restart and pms is working

Point two of the release notes says setup Plex Media Server again after OTA. I’m assuming you didn’t need to do this?

What version of PMS is installed after this upgrade?

Did experience image #3 update (PMS is on default internal drive) PMS started up fine still on 1.25.3.5448.

Not brave enough to connect my USB drive and move PMS to it.

First impression, the intermittent stuttering on Live TV (HDHomeRun Connect Quattro) seems to be resolved.

I’m out of the country for a week, so hotfix #3 will have to wait.

I hope this will solve the nightly failure that forced to turn off the shield, and maybe also transcoding.

I asked it in the past, but I’ll ask again: are downloads working for you? The feature was always hit or miss, but now it always fails for me.

Never imagined I’d have to make an account to voice my frustration about this clusterf*ck of an update. I’ve been using Plex and the Shield for years and this is by far the worst it’s ever been. I’m currently on hf3 and I’m still getting stuttering and freezing. The only app update I have available is Android System WebView so that could also be the culprit. The OS before this big update while it wasn’t perfect…it was functional and had my media running fine with little to no issues. This “Android Experience” is pushing me to move away from the Shield and get a NAS. This is embarrassing.

Installed Hotfix 3. Now getting the ‘no internet connection’ error in Plex (verified there is an internet connection in other apps) and PMS options are absent again from the settings in the Plex app.

So a step backwards. :frowning:

Edit: so after a period on standby the PMS seems to have woken up and is now working. We will see if it lasts the night!

This is an nvidia + Plex f-up - from this “SHIELD Experience” update saga.

Its more obvious now there is no real collaboration or access between the two companies, probably marginally better support than what you get if you contact Nvidia.

I sympathise with Plex a bit but since Plex is the main reason why people buy a Shield (I can’t think of any other) Plex needs to push for better collaboration in my opinion specially before major updates!

    • Are you on Wi-Fi?
    • Are you using default internal storage for PMS data?
    • Where is your media stored?

Hi all, I run PMS on the 2019 Shield Pro and my media is on a NAS

To save me trawling through this entire thread, does anyone know if the hot fix 3 will get PMS working again and if so, is there a link that someone can direct me to with the instructions?

Many thanks in anticipation.

  1. Ethernet
  2. Default internal storage
  3. NTFS formatted USB drive (magnetic platter)

To clarify, on Shield in Plex app > Settings > “Plex Media Server” section is blank with no options to sign in / server offline message.

If so, your Plex Server isn’t starting up which could be for several reasons, are you able to see your external USB drive with your media files in Shield > Settings > Storage >

I experienced the same issue, some posts recommend waiting for a while but after waiting for 30mins appox with no luck, I ended up Factory Resetting the Shield and rebuilding PMS from scratch.

I’m on hotfix 1 with NTFS on USB. Currently I need to unplug once a day and then Plex works until the following day. It’s a pain. However I won’t be spending hours installing hotfix 3, rebuilding libraries etc. while other users here still seem to have issues. Has anyone had a successful no issues update? Come on nvidia/plex! This thing should be working after 2 weeks!

Hotfix 3 installed. PMS still does not appear.

Installed nvidia shield hotfix 3 on my 2019 shield and Plex Media Server started working immediately without doing anything not even a restart. I’m using the above listed Plex server apk (beta) and the up-to-date Plex client from the play store. Using ethernet with Plex data on external NTFS WD SSD storage (not formatted as internal).

Exactly the same. But… Does’nt work

Try rebooting then open Plex client and keep it open for a few minutes. I remember once it took around 10 minutes before it started working again. Just try keeping the client open on Shield.

I cant to install this apk. The message i have after installation - the apk is not installed
Nvidia Shield TV Pro

Ok so installed hotfix 3. Once I opened plex it told me that I didn’t have an Internet connection for about 1 minute, then it got going. Seems to be the case that after a reboot plex believes it’s offline for a few minutes. This doesn’t seem to happen for sleep.
So for now everything seems to be running OK. System is external 4TB NTFS WD drive with version 1.25.3.5448 PMS side loaded. I’ll report back tomorrow on whether the shield or plex gets locked up again overnight. :crossed_fingers:

So I solved this problem!
What need to do: Settings - Apps - See all apps - Show system apps - find Plex Media Server - Permissoins - Files and media (change to allow all time)
After try to install Plex server from settings of Plex client
