Just installed the Hotfix 3 and the APK provided here but now I am stuck at the storage permissions screen. Here I select to allow access to manage all files but nothing happens, I just return to the setup permissions screen.
Still does not work
Also new to the Shield (1 month), and I was dumb enough to blindly allow the install of the Shield “Experience” 9 upgrade. Got the first 2 hot fixes and sideloaded the 5410 Plex APK, and all was well for a week or 2. For the past 3 days I have been unable to access the Plex server on the Shield, and also have the Orange Triangle on the server and it’s associated libraries, with the message “Server Name” is Currently unavailable. Got Hotfix #3 and installed this morning, and still unable to access the server. Then tried to sideload the 5410 again and message was “App not installed”. The only option I had was to remove the server, which I did, since could not access any settings/menus etc. I do have an instance of a Windows Plex installed on the same network that appears in the Shield/Plex and that still functions correctly on the shield. At this point I don’t know how to proceed to create a new server instance on the Shield, even if I have to recreate the libraries etc. What a mess…
I just bought nvidia shield tv pro and i thought i will not have any problems with plex but i was wrong. I will try to explaine some ideas which i have.
So download plex from play market and installed it. Go to X-plore file manager - find App Manager/Installed. You will see Plex (it is client) and may be Plex Media Server. If PMS exists - delete it. And install that apk from
fix bug : Plex Media Server 1.25.3.5410 (smb) APK Download by Plex, Inc. - APKMirror
After PMS installation run it and the installer itself will direct you to the steps to install the server.
p.s. sorry for my english
I also noticed that if I, for example, switch from wired internet to wireless, the server will disappear. In addition, for some reason, PMS with wifi 5G does not want to work.
So now with my server keeps falling off/disconnecting after a hr or two and I have to reboot my Shield.
This is getting out of hand.
The latest APK of Plex Media Server has been bundled with hotfix 3 from NVIDIA, as such you no longer need to sideload an APK of PMS.
If you are on hotfix 3 and have issues getting past the permission page, install the APK below:
I’m not seeing any permissions page. Does it only show if the permissions are incorrect as I’ve set mine via the app settings within Android prior to the update. The only issue I was seeing before hotfix 3 was PMS shutting off overnight. I will monitor tonight but would like to know if I’m missing something if I’m not seeing this permissions page.
Yes it will only be visible if the permissions are incorrect, and to get there you will need to run through the PMS setup via Plex client, or launch the PMS app via the Android settings (and the Open command).
We are still looking into an issue where PMS becomes unreachable which sounds like what you are seeing. When it happens again, would you be able to send me the logs over?
Ok good to know. I will capture the logs tomorrow morning if it happens. But I’ve just installed hotfix 3 so hopefully that helps.
I have already sent the logs to @anon18523487 previously but will send again. The only way to get back into Plex is to restart the Shield and hopefully that doesn’t lose the logs.
With hotfix 3, videoes sometime play, sometimes don’t play, plex crashes, it’s a hot mess.
try this
C’mon PLEX, this is getting ridiculous!! I have hot “fix” 3 installed, but still cannot get plex to work. Essentially all that works is plex’s content, I cannot connect to my server. I say the plex content works it at least shows up which is more than I can say for my personal content (NOTE: which is the reason I have an Nvidia Shield and PLEX in the first place)!!
When I go to settings the are under the title “Media Server” does not populate to even try to turn the server on or off. A fix for this would be great!.
After all of the initial drama post Shield upgrade, I did side load the apk and hot fix 1 and everything seemed to be working great. I could watch MY content on the shield and even via the app on my computer and ipad. I installed the hot fix 2 then didn’t mess with plex for a couple of days. When I cam back I ran into my current problem, cannot connect to my server and have no ability to even try to turn it back on. I installed hot fix 3 today, and have experienced zero change in plex, it is still unusable. Very, very frustrating!
Uninstalled PMS and Plex, updated to Nvidia Hotfix 3, reinstalled Plex and PMS via the link here.
Though I was able to get through the install and permissions, and reassign the server to external storage (8TB WD, external power, ports always on, yadayada all detailed above in previous post), the behavior of Plex is EXACTLY THE SAME AS BEFORE. Seems good at first, then a few minutes into scanning library files it hangs, server disappears, and that’s it.
STILL BROKEN GUYS.
Would you please share what your testing systems are where these problems can’t be reproduced?
If there’s an external HD available that’s been so solid the server disappearing problems are not reproducible, please share the details!
As long as it’s large enough for my library and files (over 6TB and not formatted Fat32) I’ll just buy the one you have, build a new system off that, and be done with this.
Today I noticed something strange, somehow after struggeling setting up Plex server and got it running it stays stable for 1 or 2 days ( and I have mostly the same problems everyone else have so far I can read about it). So today I wanted to install Kodi too and once I got it installed both Plex and Kodi works. But once I reboot my Shield TV Plex server is not starting anymore.
Decided afterwards to uninstall Kodi and rebooted Shield again and now Plex Server is up and running. To me this was strange so I decided to do it again 2 more times and 2 more time Plex Server failed to start until I deleted Kodi again.
Someone perhaps know why this can happen? Normally both of them should be running along side eachother you would expect?
Specs :
Shield TV pro 2019
Shield Experience 9.0 ( original public release, no hotfixes)
PMS version 1.25.3.5410 (sideloaded )
Media on external SMB drive
Thanks for confirming Hotfix #3 has not solved the issue.
Ok so I did a restart bacause Plex stopped working overnight and I think I faced the same issue as yours. I solved it by opening the Plex Media Server app from the system apps. Then I closed the server app first then the client app after it (not force close just normal with double press on the home button). Then I started the Plex client app and kept mashing retry on different categories until it started working again. Not sure if what I did really fixed the problem or I was just lucky.
How come you have the .5410 version and not the .5448 version?
I had plex stable for several days… yesterday aplided hotfix 3 and today morning no pms running… tried to restart shield but only power unplug worked… still trying to get pms back…
