dudes, chill.
the plex devs are under super pressure right now.
surely they will fix all issues, they have proven record of appreciation and love for their software, 10 times over in the recent years.
I am not at all worried right now.
there are many SHIELD issues to fix at the same time, so be patient.
that said, I have noticed that in recent covid years, companies tend to impress by releasing their softwares earlier than they used to, often resulting in bad situation as this.
just look at Cyberpunk 2077 releases, fifa 22 glitches, windows 10/11 feature upgrade issues…
the whole IT world is suffering because of these bad practices.
a sign of the times, one might say.
I’m sure this situation will be a lesson for future PLEX corporate/softdev decisions too.
Sorry to see so many people are yelling at you specifically here. I get we’re all frustrated but it’s also frustrating to see people not really providing details or logs and such about what’s wrong. Mention setups people. Wifi or LAN. How is your plex hard drive connected. Attach a log. Say what is specifically not working. For me it’s just crashing overnight. A reboot in the morning and everything works good as new I assume it’s a task crashing overnight. However the tasks all seem to complete as well as database backups. It just crashes after.
I’m in IT, and my least favorite thing is to communicate with the customer that I have no idea what’s wrong and have no ETA on a repair. I can’t really put it that bluntly either, but have to constantly discuss the plan so anxious people can feel more at ease.
Maybe its a very easy task to stop people from yelling .
Thats telling in public to your custumors whats happening and not keeping quit !!
Or maybe thats to much for the Plex organisation to do for there paying custumors who have been waiting for over a month now for any news ?
Glad to know you guys are working on it. I bet you it’s been a nightmare to plex too! On the plus side I noticed you guys updated the iOS versions. I’m more in the feeling that Nvidia screwed this up big time - come on - even when not using plex we’re having the shield freeze or just be unresponsive. I’m glad you guys are working on it.
I uninstalled and re-installed plex server (latest posted on here) and my server is now showing up in plex finally but wont start, argh! This is frustrating, my buddy is hooking me up with a quad core i5 optiplex w/ssd and im going to turn it into my media server and going back to apple tv from the shield.
Since the upgrade nothing works right, apps wont open without a restart, apps freeze, i get locked out of settings constantly and have to pull the power to restart, the list goes on with no media server being the icing on the cake.
This is just awful. I did try to solve the issue twice, uninstalling plex app and server, rebuilding library and both times Plex server became unavailable after I restarted Shield. My configuration is Shield Hotfix 3, USB SSD as adopted storage, and media library on NAS.
Since I need to watch my own content available on my own NAS, Kodi is good old (and reliable) solution. I don’t have any plans to be some kind of beta tester or lab mouse, while some very well paid people show no effort to do their job and fix this issue. This is not a matter of days, it has been a weeks that Plex doesn’t work. Shame on you!
Shield 2017 16GB on 9.0.1 PMS 1.25.3.5448 (SMB) for a week or so now, no real issues connected via gigabit to Synology NAS.
Second device Shield Tube 2020, also on gigabit sometimes I get buffering which never used to happen on playback.
Haven’t had the courage to move PMS data from Internal (System) drive to external USB SSD 1TB Samsung T5 as no one has confirmed it’s stable after a few days it would crash Shield. Had to pull plug then Plex wouldn’t start ever again and had to do Factory Reset.
I don’t know how we will be notified by Plex/Nvidia if this is ever fixed…
Im starting to consider FAT32 even though for huge libraries the data could potentially contain a file over 4GB eg. the database + there are supposedly some performance and corruption mitigation advantages to NTFS, so would rather not have to think about those causing an issue down the track.
any updates @anon18523487 regarding fix for NTFS external drives?
Although in my situation i can’t see those databases growing over 4GB any time soon and i do
have already a nice collection of movies, tv-series, music, music-concerts, etc.
Like i mentioned already have about 16TB of media already.
But i would really like for Nvidia to fix the access issue of my external USB SSD over the network (SMB share) so i can use my automated daily backup of my Plex databases etc. again.
Let’s hope they are closing in on a final solution for this!
Because i think the remaining issues most have now with Plex on NVidia Shield are mainly at the side of NVidia (or better Android 11) and not in the Plex software.
