I’ve been dismissing the shield 9 upgrade after hearing of all the issues it was causing with plex servers.
Is it safe to download yet? Kinda sounds like a no still

dont bother mate
has anyone side loaded an older version of plex that is stable?
It’s NTFS.
If you’re still looking for the link
Don’t install it! I wish I could rollback.
Nvidia has previous versions and can solve the problem right away by adding to the stable version but they will not solve it, I do not know why!!!
Extreme no

And Plex Server beta version … Early Access & Beta Releases | Plex Support
Solved the problem for me.
I’m not really wanting to be a beta tester - I’d prefer stable releases for the shield experience and plex media server. But restarting the shield and double checking all the settings are kinda getting tiresome.
Let me preface my comment by saying, I love both my Shield TV Pro and Plex TV (I have Plexpass lifetime) and have no bias towards one firm or the other.
I also know both companies are trying to resolve this.
nVidia staff claims they tested with Plex, but that a new version of PMS was released on Jan 4 which caused problems. I suspect only insiders at BOTH firms know the full story.
Per a stick from Nvidia staff on the Nvidia forum:
"There are a lot of questions about how SHIELD Experience could be launched with Plex Media server not working correctly. The root of the issue with Plex Media Server on launch day of 9.0 is related to the changes in Android 11 for Storage. We worked closely with Plex during SHIELD Experience 9.0 development to make sure PMS was working and during all of our internal and external beta testing it was working. Plex wasn’t 100% ready for Android 11’s changes but we had it working. Unfortunately though on January 4th a new version of PMS was launched which changed the reported API level and that broke PMS on SHIELD Experience 9. All of our testing had been complete and the change went unnoticed until launch day.
We are working closely with Plex now to get a new PMS that has full Android 11 storage support and cleans up this experience. In the meantime, one can generally still get PMS working by using a combination of the HotFix image and the 1.24 version of PMS and enabling all of the storage privleges per the first item in the Known issues list.
*You can grab a PMS apk from Plex (includes a link) until it gets released into the store".
At the end of the day, I know everyone wants the same thing, Shield TV Pro and Plex working again.
I never upgraded to Shield Experience 9 (Android 11) since a family member warned me and my Plex is hence still working great (with prior Shield Experience and PMS 1.23.x). However I check this thread daily for a fix so I can get the latest versions, once they are confirmed to be working.
Per MovieFan.Plex, with my setup which includes my PMS storage location as ‘Internal (System)’, I apparently would not be impacted by the server disappearing issue / inability to access my content; however, I would be impacted by the HW encoding issue that came out of this. So I also need to wait before any upgrades.
Hopefully it will not be much longer for those who are impacted and who did not downgrade to address the issues.
Any news or hw transcoding? Is there any version that I can sideload and the damn thing will work?
attach the apk for beta you’re using.
I’m tempted to rebuild at v1.23 PMS. Not sure that will solve my transcoding issues, but even the v1.24 isn’t transcoding correctly for larger HEVC files.
Never for the life of me I thought it would have taken a month to fix this issue. Sorry but this is just actually quite poor from both parties.
I’m these close to installing PMS on my laptop - I really thought that the Nvidia shield pro would be an upgrade- maybe I should return it - I dunno - a month is a long time ![]()
I’m just as frustrated as everyone here, this should’ve been properly tested before launch. However, what happened, happened. Now, I’m a bit understanding that it is taking a while because it requires 3 parties to solve it (Google Nvidia Plex). I’m going to be a bit more patient.
You have no choice but to be “patient”.
this was my intention also… but I’ve read that transcoding doesn’t work on android 11 regardless of PMS version…
I thought I was clear but apparently not. I meant “politely and understandingly patient and not go for alternative just yet”.
