Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

EDIT: Never mind, seeing a number of user posts at Nvidia (and above here, was not caught up with this thread when I posted) that Plex / storage issues reportedly persist even with today’s Shield Experience 9.0.1.

(I am still on Shield Experience 8.x and PMS 1.23.x so I am not impacted).

I assume the HW transcoding issues from PMS 1.24 and 1.25 are still not fixed by Plex regardless? Is there any thread here for HW transcoding issues on Shield with Plex? I looked but could not find one… So I can keep that separate.

I will be doing the rollback tonight. Wish me luck.

So just to be clear, PMS users should not upgrade to 9.01.?
Am I right?
If so , I can deal with its current issues by restarting and replugging the shield and restarting. It’s better knowing that I can do that vs the unknowns by installing 9.01.

Came home to new update. Is this hot fix #4 or an official update?

Either way I already installed. Will report back any findings…

9.0.1 (33.1.0.283)
PMS - 1.25.3.5448

Installing 9.0.1 because I feel daring.

I expect the usual issues anyway. Will report back.

Installed 9.0.1. Will report tomorrow how it’s going. Right now I’m remembering how good it is when my media server works.

Right, you don’t appreciate something that works flawlessly until it stops working flawlessly.

Oh, I appreciated it a whole lot. Everyone and their mother was complaining about a number of issues but I always seemed to somehow magically avoid them. I’ve loved this device most of the time I owned it (I had a very rough start initially but once the major issue I had at first got rectified it’s been a pleasure for my friends, family and myself). It’s exactly why I loved it so much it’s been so annoying during the past month. At least I managed to finish some Netflix exclusives I’ve been sitting on.

Nightmare still… updated and already had to unpower the shield since she frozed… bring back old android OS Nvidia… stop breaking perfect working hardware

OK updated to 9.0.1 and everything seems to be working from where I left off interestingly. will report tomorrow to confirm that nothing has failed over again.

Okay so this must be an official update. I just got the update on the rest of my shields. I only gave nvidia the serial number to one of mine for the hot fix.

Just updated to 9.0.1 on my 2017 Sheild. Updated then did a factory reset. Was able to create a new plex server, and it was scanning and finding my media on my NTFS 2TB HDD connected via USB to the sheild.

Everything was going fine until it locked up during the scan for TV shows. Had to pull the plug to reset shield. On loading back up, there are no longer any options under the Plex media server options again to start/stop the server or change the storage location.

Update no good. Going to try one more time then give up until I hear more.

Second time, same problem. TV Show scanning seems to fail, and Plex no longer opens on the shield (stuck at selecting user account) and and I cant see any media on the plex website, even though it says that the server is near by.

Tried to reboot the shield using the menu and its stuck rebooting, Plug pulling time again.

On rebooting, no longer any options on Plex Media server to start/stop, change storage location.

EDIT - had the same post up on the nvidia forum for the 9.0.1 release. Got a reply from nvidia staff saying I was hitting the issue with NTFS/exFAT drives due to Paragon, which is being worked on for an upcoming hotfix. https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/485389/shield-experience-upgrade-901-released-21522/3216375/

Froze and I had to reboot. Back in the same boat.

I installed 9.0.1 upgrade. No Plex server. Rebooted. No Plex server. Checked permissions… nothing wrong.

Next, I closed the Plex server and restarted. Plex server is back! I would be surprised if it came back by itself after a reboot, but thid did work. All my Plex data/media is on external drives: on 2TB SSD, one 8TB HDD.

Thanks Salamando. Thats all we needed to know. 9.0.1 doesn’t fix the NTFS issue that seems to be a problem for many. I’ll not be installing this! Hotfix 3 and turning off all scheduled tasks has kept my Plex running for the last week without any problems including adding new content and I don’t have to unplug every day. Clearly this is still going to be a nightmare for the majority of shield users who are not checking forums every day.

Reporting from yesterday - when it works it works. I watched a bunch of stuff in the evening. Then added a few more files and some time during the night it died, I assume while scanning the new stuff. After a power cycle (I have my Shield connected to a smart plug so I can easily reboot it) initially the Plex Media Server section in the settings was empty but a minute later it span up, my content popped up and it’s working now. I suppose it will go down again after a while. If I can provide any sort of logs that can be useful let me know (I do have enabled debugging but not verbose logging).

I confirm the same behaviour retorted by other users here. Whit 9.0.1 Plex server works correctly with external content on NTSF USB drive for a while and then disconnects the drive overnight. This is clearly the NTFS issue reported as known issue in 9.0.1 and not Plex fault as it affects other apps too.
Transcoding still seems not working with PMS bundled with 9.0.1, can others confirm this?

Someone with external Drive in exfat? Does it work correctly without disconnecting at night?
