Shield experience 9 upgrade, server dissapeared

any tips? I tried and it had an error at the end and corrupted the OS

I was running Shield experience 9.0.2 and last PMS version and i was bored by all these issues (DD+, HW, Data transfer). So decided to downgrade to shield experience 8 + PMS 1.23

The whole process was a bit long but i followed a very good thread on the official forum here

I advice to use Ubuntu Virtual Machine to do this. But do it at your own risk…

Hope Plex/Nvidia team will fix all these issues soon, shield is really a mess right now…

So has anyone downloaded 9.0.1 Hotfix #3? Any new issues? Any benefits?

Shield: Version 9.0.2 (33.1.0.319)
PMS: Version 1.25.3.5448

Is it safe to upgrade PMS to version 1.25.8.5663 ?

While I know Plex and Nvidia have each been working hard on various issues that arose in Jan (mostly surrounding Android 11) in Shield Experience 9.0.x and PMS 1.25 (some Plex issues, some Nvidia issues).
While a lot of issues have been resolved,. I am surprised that major things like the following are still not resolved months later in early April:

  1. Plex Media Server 1.25 Hardware Transcoding completely broken, as confirmed by Plex staff.
  2. Shield File transfer speeds lower in Shield Experience (SE) 9.0.x than with SE 8.x.x (even after recent partial improvements in speed in the hotfixes).

Thankfully I am on Shield Experience 8.x (had auto upgrade turned off) and Plex 1.23. Don’t think I can upgrade my Shield TV Pro to PMS 1.24 since 1.25 is now available and showing in the Play Store on my Shield, unless there is a download link for PMS 1.24?

This isn’t completely true, on the latest hotfix and latest beta of pms, Plex media server will not start on my shield, forget hardware transcoding not working, Plex Media Server doesn’t work full stop.

It is shocking that there is no update on this.

I would try regressing my PMS to an older version but I can’t find links to download 1.24.

Is this a joke ?

4 months and still NO FIX for PMS on the Shield ? :rage: :rage:

Only option is to run PMS on a computer then ? (one that will not self destroy with autoupdate)

Warning to any Roku (Ultra) users for Plex (may affect all Plex TV versions after the latest update). There is a new Plex version on Roku dated April 5th.

ANY video on Plex with TrueHD audio is not working anymore now with the new Roku Plex app version.
Behavior:
With the ‘Direct Play’ setting set to ‘Auto’, I get the error “Playback has stopped due to multiple playback errors” and the video does NOT play.
If I then switch ‘Direct Play’ setting set to ‘Force’, Plex hangs and then hangs / crashes the Roku, forcing the entire Roku to restart (reboot) by itself!

I see the Roku Plex app update above coincides with an update to Play Store version of Plex TV (client) app…

Keep yelling at Plex for Nvidia’s screwup. Might as well kick the cat for the dog crapping on the carpet.

yea… sorry about that.
I am yelling at so many forum right no it`s hard to keep track witch one is the correct one.

Trust me I have tried to contact Nvidia… looks like they don’t prioritize PLEX servers.
or for that matter Shield users at all.

This is maybe not plex issue, but plex can maybe push Nvidia to find a solution.

It looks good  I haven’t tried it yet I still don’t get the possibility of updating in playstore…

Plex Media Server 1.26.0.5715 is now available to Plex Pass users in the Beta update channel.

NEW:

  • (Metadata) Pull down country info for TV shows during metadata refreshes (#13463)

FIXES:

  • (Music) Improve artist searches when the search term is an alias (#13441)
  • (PubSub) A pubsub server with sub-optimal latency could be selected (#13480)
  • (Transcoder) Hardware transcoding could fail on Nvidia SHIELD TV systems (#13452)

1.26 Beta above seems to have fixed the NEW April issue regarding TrueHD 7.0 clip playback, sat least for me on my Roku Ultra devices
Seems it also contains a fix for Shield HW transcoding.

While I updated PMS (to 1.26.0.5715) on my 2019 Shield TV Pro, I am still on Shield Experience 8 though… Not rushing to get Shield Experience 9.x just yet… Once the issues have been resolved, including file transfer speeds being lower than Pre-9.x (which I assume applies / refers to transfers of media to and from the external USB NTFS drive connected to my Shield via USB).

The hotfix #3 has improved transfer speeds - Was 2-4mbps now i’m 50ish…so thats nice

Thanks. Several people saying while speeds improved significantly from 9.0 to 9.0.1 hotfix 3, speeds were still slower than with Shield Experience v. 8.x
Also some people seem to be indicating that Hotfix 3 either introduced new issues or caused issues to reappear that had been fixed (in hotfix 1 or 2)? The issues seem to be around server access / stability again(?)

Are you experiencing issues?
Do you have an NTFS external drive connected to the Shield for storage of your media files (for Plex playback)? Trying to understand your setup…

I would love for them to bring a hotfix #4 as a downgrade to Experience Vers. 8 lol

I have 2 external hard drives storing my media on the shield.

Hotfix#3 has been working for 5 days but not holding my breath.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad it is working well for you. That is promising. But to be safe (since “downgrading” manually is a massive effort), I may wait a bit longer to upgrade to SE 9.x.x (hopefully a month or so would allow for more stability / any additional fixes).
