Show remembering wrong starting episode

Not sure the best spot to put this since it’s not client specific and I’m not sure it’s server related at this point.

I’ve got a show that if it is marked as unplayed always wants to start at Season 05 Episode 01. Even if I start watching S01E01 manually, the next time I come back it wants to start at S05E01 again. I’ve done the plex dance by removing the entire show, and the issue persists.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Does this mean all the episodes now have the orange triangle on them showing them as unwatched?

Yes, by using the “mark shows as unplayed” option.

Hopefully someone official will jump in here eventually, but what server version are you running now?

Which player are you using?

Would you please do the following?

  1. Make certain DEBUG logging is ON, VERBOSE is OFF - SAVE if changes
  2. Start playback of S05E01.
  3. Let it play for 5 minutes
  4. Stop Playback
  5. Go look at something else
  6. Come back to it
  7. Click Play
  8. It better ask if you want to resume.
  9. let it do what it wants (Resume or play)
  10. Play 30 seconds
  11. Stop playback
  12. Download Logs ZIP file

Double check the date metadata for the S05E01 and S01E01. Maybe S05E01 for some reason has an incorrect “Originally Available” date, which will play first. Plex’s “Continue watching” should choose the earliest - chronologically - file of all files in all seasons to put up first. Try refreshing the show’s metadata to see if it gets normal-looking dates. If S05E01 has a date for some reason earlier than all other episodes, and that is the ONLY episode that is messed up, try changing it’s “Originally Available” date manually.

I’m using the latest version of plex server: 1.24.2.4973

I also have the problem on all players, web player, Apple TV, iPhone/iPad, windows desktop player.

I checked the dates in the meta data, they’re correct so that’s not it.

I’ll work on the troubleshooting for the logging next.

Ran through the entire show again, same issue still occurring.
