Skip TV Intro not working

In it’s current state it’s nothing more than an annoyance, but I am curious now.

It’s been churning my machine to it’s knees for the 2 hour maintenance window every night for… since this thing started… and I have no idea what’s been done, no indication of what it’s doing, or an inkling of how much more of this tunnel through solid bedrock we’re gonna have to cut with a plastic spork before we reach some light at the other end.

‘Some’ of the shows I check have a Skip Intro button - that blows me out a window of the bus on the sidewalk 200 Yards short of the bus stop, but hey, if that’s the way it works - I don’t need it.

What I’m really concerned with at this point is how much Plex Dancing I’m going to have to do to rid me of this useless thing when it’s all said and done?

I recall having to Plex Dance my entire music collection recently to rid it of Popular Tracks. I don’t recall how much fun that was, but I think it was ‘none’.

IF - and it’s a big one - Disabling anything that has to do with it’s generation - also turns off a Button that doesn’t do what I want - I’ll be fine. We all know what the chances of that are, don’t we?

Just saw the skip intro button for the first time today. I gave up on the manual analyzing a few days ago so I guess just giving this some time will do the trick.

The skip duration for the one episode I have tried this with was pretty much perfect. Im cautiously optimistic right now

I have a somewhat interesting issue, I recently downloaded the entirety of the “Zero Punctuation” weekly web ‘show’. For those that don’t know, it’s a 4-6 minute rant on video games that comes out every week. The skip intro works on other shows, but not that one, even though every episode for the last 6 years starts exactly the same way. Is it not getting picked up becuase it’s too short?

Yup. Intros need to be at least 20s. Looking at 1 of those episodes, it appears to be around 12s.

i don’t know if you guys are taking suggestions any more, but perhaps the ability to manually add a specified skip to a series?

There’s already a suggestion for that…

I see people posting XMLs and I can’t find any. My server shows Analyzing, it has been doing that for days now, but I’m yet to find one single show or episode offering me to Skip Intro. How do I troubleshoot it? I can’t see anything in the logs, but I’m obviously looking in the wrong place. I mostly use Apple TVs for my clients, Mac for my server, running version 1.19.4.2865. Cheers.

standard questions (by now):

  • which version of Plex Media Server do you have installed (bonus question: on what platform, e.g. Windows/Linux/Mac/NAS…)
  • which players do you use to (a) track/monitor the analysis and (b) attempt to play an episode

My Plex Server (1.19.4.2865) is also not creating intros.
Library is set to enable intro detection, Server setting is also enabled to generate intro markers.
If I hit analyze on a tv show season I see quick 1 second analyzing on each episode and then no inro data is added.

Turn on transcoding to speed things up. There seems to be a bug making the process take forever when videotranscoding is turned off

I finally saw my first Skip Intro message, and it was SPOT ON. This is for the show Little Fires Everywhere. I’m loving it!

For me it is also not analyzing. I added one season manually yesterday. That also only works on my iPhone. Not working in the Plex Web App Version 4.30.2.
Tried starting all Episodes and Seasons manually. Also changed all the options to ‘as a scheduled task and when media is added’ and added some new Media and searched for new Media. Nothing happend. Also changed scheduled task to a 23 hour cycle.

+1 loving to the the function working in LG TV in the future.

Skip Intro requires Plex Web 4.34 or newer.
If you want to use Skip Intro within Plex Web – for now you depend on using the hosted version of Plex Web (http://app.plex.tv/desktop) or wait until the version packaged with your local server is being updated as part of a future PMS update.

Oh sorry. Did not know that. Thanks for the quick reply.
I just found out, that it worked finde with the link you provided. It slo shows, that the shows are being scanned at the moment.

Got it working finally. I did it via plex.tv/desktop but it would never analyze the media. the trick was to deactivate intro detection for the library, save, and activate it again. after that media would be analyzed successfully.

This seemed to do the trick for me. Ive been fighting mine after a brand new fresh install to get it working. One thing I will mention is that the activity icon does show that its detecting intros after i went to TV Shows, By Season, Selecting All, then analyzing. BUT it is a very fast blip on the activity icon so be aware of that, if it looks like its not doing anything after you change this setting off and on again, it very well may be just analyzing it quickly. Ill have to report back if it actually detects intros or not as Im not sure off hand which log to check to errors. I also used the apps.plex.tv/desktop to kick off the analyze this time as I had been using the local version.

I also confirm that I needed deactivate and re-activate in the individual library for the feature to actually work.
