Small percentage of files will not pull IMDb metadata

Adding actor images by editing the ‘user_thumb_url’ column is working fine.

But if I do update the meta informations of a Movie, Plex deletes all my custom edited data. After a rescan my database looks exactly like before I edited it. And all actor thumbnails are gone.

How to keep Plex from deleting custom edited fields in the database?

I’m not 100% sure… It doesn’t change anything for me (in terms of the imdb logo) unless I call for a metadata change… I can’t say I’ve checked the actor thumbnails.

In my scheduled tasks I have ‘Refresh local metadata every three days’, ‘Update all libraries during maintenance’ and ‘Refresh metadata periodically’ turned off.

In library settings I have ‘Scan my library automatically’ and ‘Scan my library periodically’ turned off.

It means I need to manually scan library files to add any new media but also means I seem to have more control over what gets updated and when.

Thank you “chriskeens” for database tutorial, this method fixes everything. Anyone who has problems with imdb not pulling ratings, should use this method, so you don’t have to rely on Plex. I had problems with The Patriot (2000) not pulling imdb rating, but now after I manually edited database, it shows properly.

edit: don’t understand why this comment has been flagged

I have checked my copy of The Patriot (tt0187393) - it is not loading IMDB for me either so I’m guessing its the same kind of issue as some of the movies previously listed in this thread.

As for the flagging of your post - I can only assume it is due to one of the words… ‘Bull…’

Can’t believe someone would flag me for that. Regardless, I edited it out.

I’d been having mixed results with this for a while, hadn’t found this topic & had given up. After the most recent Plex update I’ve refreshed metadata on loads of movies and all but some ‘TV Movies’ are now sorted by themselves.
Thanks @chrikee for the guide, have followed it & works perfectly. It sets off my OCD with some of them not having the IMDB rating
I also tried amended the rating field as it is otherwise the moviedatabase rating with IMDB logo & sometimes the ratings can be a little different between the 2 sites. However after I saved the change Plex reported a 500 error but came back straight away but with the DB restored to the previous rating value. Guess this can’t be manually edited easily!

BTW on what you said on Scheduled tasks, from the wording here: Scheduled Tasks | Plex Support it suggests you don’t need to turn those off as they either do not refresh metadata or only apply to music libraries.

I have been do some experimenting and found another way that seems to work also.

Using @chrikee guide to open the DB I found that if you look in the same table he talked about there is a column called guid.
I found that although I had set the scan to get ratings etc from IMDB the agent in here was still saying themovedb.
No matter how many times I tried to do a fix match of that movie it would always go back to the movie db. Even when I put in the imdb number into the scanner it would return a result but still would not remove themovie db as the agent.

So what I did was just delete out the entry in the guid column of DB for that movie, committed the changes.
I then went back to plex and did a metadata refresh and WOLLA it populated all the IMDB data and displayed the imdb logo.

To check this I then went back to the DB and looked up the movie and the guid had been changed to imdb instead of themoviedb.

So I then deleted all themoviedb agent entries and am in the process of doing a full metadata refresh, but so far seems to be working great and is now populating all the guid table fields with IMDB as the agent.

Obviously BACKUP FIRST!!! before you try this.
