The missing eoisodes were played at least once before, only diffrence between the episodes is the episode number and title.

Have tried everything short of wipeing DB and starting from scratch.

FYI… been running plex since the start…

Yes i know that episode 6 is missing, I caused that trying to get these titles back into plex where they should be.

Its totaly random as to what episodes in a series is missing. But once its gone thats it. I cant get it back into the DB. most of the time its one or two, This series is missing 11, just eight and nine are left and they could also vanish.
any suggestions..

dont suggest the plex dance..
i’m an expert at it and someone needs to change the tune

Given the files used to be listed in your library (and the files still exist)…
Have you configured the show to delete items?

Have you tested if the episodes might have been accidentally merged as duplicates of other episodes? With so much technical data in your file names this might be another option (no need for brackets around the season/episode number pattern; technical mumbo jumbo should be placed in a set of square brackets to avoid confusing the scanner).

No,

No duplicates..

This is the way I have formated the files for years, Plex has no problem matching Movies or Shows. I vary rarely have to do a fix match..

Some additional info…
The show that I have in my first post has now totaly vanished.
All the files are still on the NAS.
This issue happens with shows/movies on all 4 NAS devices.
I only find them when they are attempted to be played since they show up as available but the file can’t be found on the NAS, which is not the case.
Rescanning TV Shoes doesn’t bring it back.

Could I have reached the DB limit for movies and episodes, Adding a new episode shoves and old out. Only thing I can think of…

Next thing I’ll try is to move that show to another NAS and rescan.

I’ve seen users posting about libraries with crazy sizes… the site shouldn’t be a limiting factor.

Your server logs might show some indication of what’s happening, or if there’s a problem with your database.

I was about to post a similar problem. I noticed that a series at some point dropped from 65 episodes to 27. They were all showing at one point. Not sure when it started as I just noticed the issue about a month ago and have been going nuts trying to optimize, clean, new db, reloading backups. Some of my episodes are named

  • Series [30x12] - episode.mp4 (brackets around season/episode)
    while others are named
  • Series.30x06.-.Episode.mp4 (no brackets)

I know, inconsistency but it was a file naming software update for my WDTV and I didn’t pay attention to format till now.

I finally figured out that the ones that have the brackets [season x episode] in the name are not seen IF I have the top of the folder chosen for the library (for example, added Series\My Series), but if I add each season folder individually in the library it will recognize all episodes regardless of whether it has brackets (for example Series\MySeries\Season 1, Series\MySeries\Season 2, Series\MySeries\Season 3).

If I take the brackets out of the file name, it is suddenly recognized in the library where I have it added at top folder level. For grins, try taking the brackets out of the file name of one that is missing and see if it recognizes it. Not sure this will help you since all of yours have brackets, but for sure worth a shot and if it works, you can use bulkrenameutility dot co dot uk to remove them from all your files. That’s what I am going to do.

Anything in square brackets is ignored by Plex in a filename.

Yes that was true which is why I didn’t care about files named differently until I figured out that fixes my problem today. Previously, I could have a library looking at series\myseries and all files would show brackets or not and each season didn’t even have to be in it’s own folder. Fabulous!

Now, it does not show the ones with brackets in the name whether it’s in its own season folder or not but I found it would work if I put the episodes in season folders and added each series\myseries\season folder individually.

Again… I set up 2 test libraries to troubleshoot:

Library 1 – Does not see files with [ ] around season x episode

Add single folder to library Series\MySeries

Result 27 episodes - 13 from Season 24 (none with brackets), 6 from Season 25 (none with brackets) and 9 from Season 30 (does not see 4 with brackets, only the 9 without brackets)

Library 2 – Bracket or not if I add each season folder individually to a library, it finds it.

Add each season folder individually Series\MySeries\Season 22, Series\MySeries\Season 24, Series\MySeries\Season 25, Series\MySeries\Season 26, Series\MySeries\Season 30

Result 65 episodes – 12 from Season 22 (all with brackets), 13 from Season 24 (none with brackets), 6 from Season 25 (none with brackets), 21 from Season 26 (all with brackets), 13 from Season 30 (4 with brackets 9 without brackets.

I renamed one file that had brackets simply removing the brackets around the Season x Episode and it suddenly shows in Library 1 in my episode list in season 30. So now it shows 28 total of the 65. Tried it again with another file in season 30 with the same result so now at 29 of 65. No other changes made to library, options, settings, anything. Both test libraries 1 and 2 have the same settings. So it may not care about your brackets but at some point recently it decided it doesn’t like my [brackets] [ ]
